robporsche
Morning all found a decent car to look at today. Its nearly on 30k miles with 4 owners. Currently shows it's on finance aswell. Would 4 owners worry anyone? 2012 model but has lots of extras its 29k but I spoke to the dealer (not porsche) on email and he said we could probably meet somewhere in the middle. For a Porsche on 30k miles what would be the things that needs doing, tyres, brakes anything else that should be done around those sort of miles? Spec attached, I just need to clarify the wheels it has on. Thanks
Broxie
Is the dealer a “recognised” indi or just a multi brand dealer who happens to have this in stock? A good indi should be sorting any issues for you in their pre sale inspection.
Topbox
Condensers, tyres, rads, pads maybe discs, is this a 981 S ?
mrbikerdood
I bought my 2012 981s over 2yrs ago - 1st yr of ownership I replaced the front pads & discs, then x1 rear light unit but that was because the company that did the Martini stripes damaged it then after that x4 tyres and that's it,it's served regularly and just go e through its mot with out any advisories (again) I would look on the gov mot checker and see if there were any advisories and see if the service history is up to date Si

Otherwise seems a reasonable everyday spec - No PSE or fancy suspension but mine doesn't have those and I still love the drive ( although secretly I pine for the sports exhaust!) I haven't come across power steering plus before. Interested to know what that is. Given the money you're paying it may be worth getting an inspection done. Has it got a full service history? It should have had the belt changed at 6 year service.

And most are fine, I just think you often have a short first period with Dealer ownership and after that some people just seem to move them quickly. Chrisbin
So given mot runs out next month I’d want a new one, and if there aren’t invoices to say those items have been done, checking they don’t crop up again. multiple owners isn’t a problem itself - lots are run as 2nd or weekend cars. dont accept service stamps as “history”, what you want is invoices. I’d say the description is just a copy and paste job of std spec (18) and then 20’s added as option
robporsche
Ok car was great, the dealership let me have a drive on my own. Roof down it was amazing and this is the first drive of a Porsche for me the handling is on another level but you guys already know this. The bolster on the drivers seat was a little worn and My OCD kicking in when I saw the inside handles where it's been scuffed The dealership sells cars to this guy every 6months he switches cars with them so they have just had this back, mot was done in November 2018 and all issues fixed. Over bodywork looked in good condition, inside possibly could need some TLC How does the spec seem to you it seems to have a lot. Pcm nav 20inch Carrera wheels PDK Xenons Park assist front and rear Climate Mobile phone prep Sound package plus Heated seats Cruise control folding mirrors Heated steering wheel First two services at Porsche then this franchise did the last one (should that be a worry) Quick question on the mileage it shows daddy held on the national milagee register indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle, how do I check that out. Lonewolfgjp
Sounds like a nice car although I’m not clued up on 981 prices. I would definitely want to see some proof those advisories have been addressed. I wouldn’t want to be picking up suspension, tyres and brake bills on a £30k car. Broxie
Rob, looking at the other Boxster he has, it's very similar to the one I just bought from an OPC this weekend. But so is his price. I'd expect a good indi to still beat the OPC prices because buying used from Porsche comes with a full 2 year warranty. That's got to be worth £1,500. They will have done their 111 point check and I would trust they wouldn't let anything out of the door that wasn't top spec. To buy one from a general trader at similar money would make me a little nervous unless it was a lot cheaper so you had room to put things right. Any chance you can get that car over to Porsche and pay for the check? That might give you real peace of mind?

I wouldnt mind paying for the check up by porsche (will check to see how much that costs) Dealer has text me this evening as i sent him a message to say the car is lovely but he knows my budget so will probably try to meet elswhere. Im a bit of nightmare when it comes to cars especially looking at them and then liking them then cant make the final push to buy it.

Unless it's mega value I think you are better finding one with dealer or specialist history, it's more important than spec on these. Heated wheel is cool but the downside i'm guessing is that it has the gear change buttons rather than paddles, i don't like these but some don't mind them. Ive found a couple of companies and they are porsche indies but they do a pre inspection check (just waiting on a call back from one to see how much) but yeah I wonder how anyone sells one of these cars privately with the buyers worrying baout cost etc. The one i looked out has the paddles on the wheel aswell as being heated (although i didnt try it out)
robporsche
just had car dealer call me, and said he would knock £1000 off the car for a quick deal as its come and and can go striaght out. Hes going to chekc what was done on the last service as he said should have had its major service. he seems to have owned a few porsches so sounds like he knows what hes talking about. but Said everything that needs doing to it will be sorted. price £27995. got me thinking now, he did mention that if a major service has been done at porsche then they will offer the 2 year extended warranty on the car. slightly higher than my budget and its a real stretch at that, plus another £360 for the pre-inspection. But wondering whether i'd get one at 25-26K.
Graham W
If this is an "s" car and the spec is true this sounds like a no brainer to me after checking that the reported MOT work has been done. Check out the Ashgood site https://www.ashgood.co.uk/ for a good comparison site. Suggest you stop over thinking and buy it but I might try a "I'll buy it today but at £27 which is the top of my budget" and insist on at least a 6 month warranty. Just my two penny worth🙄. I'd get to the bottom of this before going any further, you also mentioned a worn bolster that doesn't fit well with a 30k mileage. If you've found this, then future buyers will and you may have trouble selling it.
Mattman42
^^^^ this - i’d Run a mile from anything with a mileage discrepancy. that plus a non indi service, for main dealer money, and interior that you aren’t happy with - and will annoy you EVERY time you drive it. they aren’t that rare, onto the next if I was you
