Back in a Boxster

Hi guys,

So I’m back in a Boxster.  2.7 on only 53k on clock all good service record so pleased.

initial report all is good only 2 minor issues, 1 the roof doesn’t sit back into run when closing so have to half shut and get out and push the sides in.

2,  sometimes when starting car as I depress the clutch it still asks for me to press clutch in ?

Any advice ?

If you mean it's not sitting properly in the side channels that's a well known issue and easily fixed, usually with a bit of elastic. Do some searches on here and you'll find plenty of info and possibly a video.

Re 2 it could be the clutch switch being defective or out of alignment.

Re alignment the switch is a little piece of metal resting on the clutch pedal lever that is pushed into the switch when the clutch pedal is engaged. Bend this piece of metal towards the pedal lever so it is depressed when the clutch pedal is in use. It could go out of alignment again over time.

Hope that helps.

I bought and fitted a new clutch switch when my car did exactly that, I didn't know I could bend something.

Not very pricey - 20-30 from OPC? but a bit fiddly, head in the footwell stuff.

Yup re switch. Fiddly. Head under steering wheel with touch whilst lying across door sill and legs out of car 🤪

My previous post should also have said there’s a small bit of metal on the clutch pedal lever which goes into the switch. That’s the thing which needs adjustment or it could be a new switch needs to be purchased.

"They all do that sir". A common "knicker elastic" issue that kept popping up in my 7 year ownership of one. Got used to cranking the roof half way and pulling them into the channel each time.

Fortunately the 981 I replaced it with has a fully electric roof with slightly different closure against the windows.

Easy fix for #1 is to open the hood to the service position, find the black piece of elastic (approx 10mm wide) that goes from the outside to the inside of the hood on each side, fold the elastic back on itself and either staple or stitch the fold in place. That should give it enough tension to keep the hood in place. Another option is to replace the elastic with a shorter piece

Welcome back,

Glad you haven't changed your aviator photo :) Thailand wasn't it

Just try some WD40 on the clutch switch may work, but I took mine out completely on the 987.

I think all coil packs are reached from underneath, sorry cant help you with the Specialist.

Guvs.
