MannyLon
All, first post, so please be gentle. I am on lookout for a boxster, my first porker after many years of various //M cars. I am looking at cars from dovehouse. Anyone brought from them? When buying a used car from a specialist, what is the expectation on pad wear and disc wear? thanks Manny
topradio
I have no personal experience of them but @mrbikerdood has used them and I believe rates them highly.

Andy Mac
@MannyLon I have used Dove House over the years (servicing / repairs for Boxsters / 911 as Tony there is excellent / knowledgeable / approachable and fair). A good friend has bought several cars from them / as recently as a few weeks ago. They have always looked after us - I’m probably fussier than some and found their customer service excellent, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. MannyLon
thanks for the feedback, all. Are these the common areas to check?: - break pedal bush failure - windscreen demister failing - water leaks - front coffin arm joints
RickLS7
I used Dovehouse to service my old 986 for many years. Almost bought a 981 off them last year but they offer below bottom book on trade ins so went elsewhere. The warranty is ok, it's not a useless insurance based one with a thousand ways to wriggle out of paying in the small print. Found their prep was pretty poor, stone chipped bumpers, curbed wheels etc that an OPC for example would have sorted before putting up for sale. You might want to look through problems owners have reported on this site but 981's are very well built compared to previous versions: https://www.planet-9.com/forums/981-cayman-and-boxster-problems-and-complaints.166/

bandit_287
I spent a few years trying to source a 981 S in the right spec and colour but couldn’t find one. I eventually settled on a 981 black edition as it had all the toys I wanted and loads more, infact the car is fully loaded, there’s not much it doesn’t have. The 2.7 is quick enough for me, I drive it like a grandad and it’s a nice place to be. If spec is more important to You than performance I’d recommend one. Agreed, it's not all about straight line speed. I've not driven a 981 yet, but all the car journos can't be wrong. I'm after either an S or a 2.7 pdk with Sport Chrono. bandit_287
That shouldn’t be difficult to find.
Ian ferguson
Hi, I bought my first Porsche (981 boxter) from Dove house last October. As it was my 1st venture into the marque I was very particular with attention to detail and history and condition. They did a couple of things on the vehicle which I hadn’t noticed which was good of them. I wouldn’t have any hesitation in going back to them. my 981 will need a major service later this year and I’m unsure whether to use their service area or go to a different Indy any guidance you guys can give me would be appreciated. thanks, ian
RickLS7
Probably the best specialist around here, I can recommend their servicing. They have an annoying habit of writing down every imperfection on the paperwork which is great on a newish car but not so great on an old 986. Booked mine in for a major already, the car has a Porsche warranty though so just waiting for them to get those genuine Porsche bits.
Greenman
If this is a 981, then if it has PSE check the PSE valves aren’t seized. Check abrasions on the roof aren’t too severe, check roof seats properly when it closes. (Check around the door windows that it looks the same on both sides.) Greenman
Congrads, be sure to put some info in the Newbie Lounge and/or Members Rides section once you get the chance to take a few pics. if you are interested in runs out/meet-ups then keep an eye on the Meets/Events section, (or arrange your own and invite people along.)
