Jonttt
I’ve been out with a 718 Spyder today in Mexico blue......gorgeous car........but they have definately lost something in the oral stakes both at idle and full chatter.......it was up against some nice Porsche, from modified Carreras, to a GT3 touring and performante but for me the 981 GTS cayman that was there still sounded better..........if they sorted that roof out it would be on my shopping list though 😉
daz05
Yep had a run out with a 718 gt4 and as he left I was excited to hear it pull away but same as you I was disappointed because the 3.4 sounded better. I'm sure it can be modified in time though.
tailslides
I may be biased but the base 2.7 981 with PSE sounds the best, it can legally be used a lot more than the larger and later engined cars 😉
tailslides
I must add that following a 4.0 718 GTS I was a little disappointed by the noise, the acceleration however was quite impressive, especially as it was being "run in"

Coffeekid
I have a 981 2.7 but must say I am sorely tempted with a new GTS 4.0 - but keep having a niggling feeling I will be disappointed
RickLS7
You will be a little disappointed with the noise, the petrol particulate filters mute the exhaust note somewhat. A 981 with PSE still sounds the best in my opinion.
RBD914 v2
I found that my GTS was a bit too noisy, unless I was in the mood. It got a bit embarrassing sounding like the local teenagers in their Fiesta and Corsas fitted with drain pipes for exhausts. The latest cars (992 included) with PSE still sound nice, not as noisy true, but a little more cultured and sophisticated I like to think. Not disappointing at all, deal with it! Jonttt
The problem is I can’t.......if you compare a 991.1 to 991.2 the difference in aural pleasure is simply disappointing......Porsche did a much better job going forced induction with the 911 compared to the 718 (but they retained 6 cylinders) but physics is physics and combined with all of the additional emissions controls with each new model the fact is that even normally aspirated Porsches don’t sound as good as they used to.........they still sound good....just not as good......and its hard to get that out of your head 😉 .........it really brings it home when you have a meet with a great mixture of cars......last weekend was a perfect example.......the performante leaves the car park and everyone stands there laughing at the noise......the GT3 touring leaves the car park and everyone stands there laughing (yes they both have additional emissions control but they both prove the exception of what can be done where the same emission constraints on small volume halo model cars are not the same)......the 718 Spyder leave and everyone is just underwhelmed......it would have been a different story if it had been a 981 spyder.......I’ve not heard a 718 GTS 4.0 yet so will be interesting to see how it compares to the 718 spyder but my guess is very similar ie muted / stifled by emissions controls ? bandit_287
I took my car to a well known specialist today for a mini service MOT and inspection of the gearbox oil leak. After cleaning up the leak myself 500 miles ago I was told there is no leak, all looks good and it appeared to be overspill from the last service that had blown around and stuck to surfaces over the past year. All’s good👍
