the baron
Taken from the article which sums up the Boxster, having owned a lot faster and much more expensive metal in the past, its well worth reading the whole thing, but this sums it up: It’s enough to make anything bigger, anything more powerful, anything ostensibly but not really better, feel pointless if the point is having fun behind the wheel. If you’re looking for more measurable performance you’ll have no hard time finding it elsewhere. What’s so special about this car is that it reflects our abilities while inspiring us to practice them, so great is the payoff. https://petrolicious.com/articles/this-1967-porsche-911s-delivers-a-definitive-air-cooled-experience

Tynesider
Thanks for posting This is the best line, right at the end "the real dopamine hits are delivered on the road, corner after corner."

edc
I think this sort of comment has been said many times over for the 986 and perhaps other similar era or power cars. It's kind of why people enjoy driving their air cooled 911 as these are really no faster than a 986 S.
mikefocke
Its why my 85 HP mid-engine 914 Porsche was the most fun of the 3 I have owned. I guarantee I drove it harder than my 201 or 250 HP mid engines. If only they could have anti-rusted the bodies.
Rjg
I have only had my 2000 reg boxster but that article mirrored my thoughts the first time I took it out on local B roads. I’m 67 never done a track day but I’m sorely tempted now.

½cwt
Hate to say, but as I've had a Boxster S and also one of these: I reckon both are contenders for 'about as fast and enjoyable as reasonable on the road' and the Scooby did it in the wet too. A particularly wet afternoon on a Club 89 day at Snetterton in 1997. Ran rings round anything without 4 wheel drive (M3s, 911 variants, Caterhams and others that were much quicker in the dry morning sessions) and the only thing doing a similar time in the wet was an Escort Cosworth. Ninesomething
Can't beat a decent Soob on a wet slimy road. Mine was completely indifferent to road surface - stuck like glue no matter what the surface was like.

Yes but not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as the Boxster.🤔
½cwt
Just now, the baron said: Yes but not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as the Boxster.🤔 I'll let you have that one, but a lot easier on the eye than a Lancia Delta! Oh and half the price of a Boxster when new. Bang per buck!
Menoporsche
Had the Scoob, don't want another. Have the Boxster, don't need anything else.
Rev Ken
MX5s are fun as well. Pity both of mine started to rust away, ad my first one had had a dodgy bodywork repair after a collision. A modern MX5 would be a sensible replacement for my wonderful Boxster if it ever gets too expensive to keep on the road. (At my age and impecunious financial position!)
