Found a possible 987 to buy here.

Has Bose and big exhaust and like the paintwork.

Know you lot like to scrutinise ads and find pros and cons which have found really useful.

What do you think???

The opposite. I was agreeing with you, I do think it's an issue.

Well he's no Porsche specialist (going by his other stock) so maybe this isn't the dealer you're looking for.

Saying that, one could look past the advert and the icky tyre dressing and judge the car on its own merits. It might be a good 'un.

I've not driven a tiptronic Porsche, how bad are they ?

I am used to automatics but not a Tiptronic. Its was the only thing that held me back but everything I have read does not put me off.

Has climate, doesn't have extended leather. It's got rear PDC too, not that that would sway me in the slightest.

Roof needs a new bit of knicker lacky to keep it inside the window frames. Easy fix.

The big question is do you want a Tip. I've never driven one, nor would I particularly want to.

yes not too worried about the Tip. Why would you not want one?

Ticks some of my upgrade boxes, heated seats, Bose.

Dealer has just said the button that unlocks the bonnet does not work and they dont have time to fix so will reduce the price to cover. Anyone know how much that would be. Obs you can still open with a key.

Having seen ( heard) bose in a 987.1 vs the sound package plus in a 987.2 it wouldn't be something I was interested in - also - if you want to improve the sound or change out the head unit having bose makes it more complex and more expensive to do.

Whats the feeling from those with BOSE - worth it vs SPP or not ?

yes its the pull switch that needs replacing.

Any ideas?

Seen folks use cheap replacements (no idea if this is good just the first one that came up)

ZEALfix Bonnet Boot Release Switch 99761310502 For 997 911 987 BOXSTER CAYMAN CARRERA https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089FRXXS5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N4920ZW42DVN4WEA3B66?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I think original Porsche one is about 180 with discount  (guessing) (design911 list them at 200 ish before vat so that feels about right  )

so I guess argue for 200 for parts plus an hours labour call it 300 and but one from Amazon for 40 quid and diy

(although I would be tempted to buy a genuine one since I suspect it will last longer and fit better but that’s just me )

Tip not to everyone’s taste.  Those that have them like them and I think you would learn to drive to it’s strengths.

I'd suggest the one at Paul French for £1000 more is a lot better bet - sorry! :)

Better spec, lower miles, buying from someone who knows Porsches - thats worth the extra alone (i know its over budget) - if you can, go and see both and see which feels right for you - end of the day, you'll still be driving a Porsche with a big stupid grin on your face ;)

You know I tend to agree with you.

Not heard of them.  Personally don’t like the style of the advert.

In one sentence they have said all 3.4 987s are rubbish and so are all 986’s

want to bet they don’t say that when they are selling a 3.4 to you ?

as I say never heard of them good or bad but my first reaction to that was “cowboys” but maybe I am over reacting

if you like the look of the car and it ticks the boxes consider getting a pre Purchase inspection done for a bit of extra confidence

My daily driver before I bought a Tip had the same basic ZF 5HP box. Which worked just fine on that BMW. But I found the Porsche installation annoyed me. Overall gearing too low meaning fussy cruising on motorways. So low it is designed to start in second gear in normal use. And changed down far too readily, even again in normal use. Non of which I really noticed in the usual short test drive. It annoyed me so much I traded in this mint well equipped low miles for a 987.2 PDK after only a year. And I normally keep cars a long time.

I bought mine on AliExpress for £12 delivered.  It took me about 15 mins to fit it (remove 2screw covers, loosen to screws, pull off cover, unclip old switch .... and reverse!)
