andy987
Car is an 05 S on 97k, there is a very slight knocking on the offside rear on some surfaces (tuning fork play?) No creaking though. I’d like a full refresh so it is all like new, roughly how much would this be?
edc
If you want them to replace all the suspension arms, bushes dampers and springs then they will buy all re parts from normally Silverstone OPC. Labour rate is that of a specialist indy. That will be a full day at least.
kdh
They love customers like you £4000 upwards?
rowbos
Would it be better to get the component refresh done at your chosen indy - CPS or similar? And then get it tweaked and setup by CG to your requirements 🤔
Christopher2110
How handy are you with some spanners? If you can have the car off the road for a few days you could do it yourself. Then as Rowbos says take it to them to fettle with.

I have done all the suspension on mine (2000 986 S 100k so not too dissimilar to yours) except rear tuning forks (do need doing now so another £150) and rear springs, so coffin arms, drop links, front tuning forks, bump stops, top mounts, front springs (one was broken) all dampers, all rear eccentric bolts, rear toe link, All fitted DIY and mostly after market parts, Spyder Performance of the suspension arms, over 2 weekends plus the purchase of a coil induction heater to extract the drop link bolts and a recip saw to cut the rear eccentric bolts that had all seized in place. The bill for that lot parts only, not the tools, is about £1300 (dampers were around £550 of that lot). Now throw in commercial labour rates... Get a quote from your Porsche indy. They will track it up too, then see how it handles you will be amazed! If you feel something is still deficient then, got to CG and spend your £300 for their full set up. As a diversion I did cost this lot up with the Parts Manager at Silverstone OPC, we stopped at £3500....
andy987
I'm mulling this over as a job for next year so thanks for the replies so far, much appreciated! Think I'll price/pick up the parts needed myself and possibly tackle this myself.
BBB
I have recently done the fronts on mine, with all new parts (mix of OEM, spyder performance and Bilstein shocks). It took five hours on a four post lift, with the help of a mechanic friend, as lots of parts were seized. And I had pre-assembled the struts in advance. The first side was three hours due to cutting out drop links and the coffin arm bolts in the subframe, the second side was an hour quicker due to experience, but the top drop link bolt was a complete nightmare to get out. earley231186
I did the whole front over 2 days. Ran into a few issues with siezed bolts etc. One had to be cut off with a recip saw.

andy987
Luckily the front coolant pipes were done by the PO. I’m in Stockport.

½cwt
B4 are OE equivalent.
Philc
You could try Unique near Bolton, he has a couple of race boxsters 986/987 I'm not sure if they're on standard suspension or not, but I bet he has fitted a variety to customer cars over the years. kdh
I put Konis on my 993's and a couple of Boxsters - they were lovely and comfy but firmed up in the bends. I found Bilsteins too hard. Edited October 25, 2021 by kdh
andy987
Interesting, I definitely don’t want the ride any firmer, just more compliant and better small bump sensitivity

Fresh dampers will always feel firmer than old ones just because the old ones have deteriorated.
edc
Depending on how much you want a compliant ride you would notice more difference by going down a wheel/tyre size.

My guy (Ian Gardiner Gardiner Suspension) quoted me for the Koni special actives for my old 987 - they were just coming into stock early summer. Then I went PASM. Prices were pretty reasonable too - I think £160/170 per corner IIRC.

Interesting, Koni website has Sport and Sport Kit down as in development for the 987 and no reference to a Special Active fitment..... Ninesomething
Tried to find the email but I guess I deleted it. He is a Koni official supplier though so perhaps their website needs an update. He told me they were on the shelf.
andy987
Are the Konis preferable to B4’s?
