Gdaybruce
I called in at the Porsche Classic stand at the Goodwood Revival on Friday and asked when my 987 would qualify for registration as a classic. The answer was next year, probably, when the model has been discontinued for 10 years. To be honest I'm not sure what the benefits are but I was interested to find out that I might qualify so soon! Menoporsche
Hmm. Couldn't we say the 987.1 has been discontinued already for more than 10 years?
½cwt
You get a registration card, free annual Porche Classic book, free number plate holders, 15% off OPC fitted parts, 4 free wash and vacs a year, for starters.

Terryg
The 981 came out in 2013 so my guess is they were counting the 987.1 and 987.2 as the same product range.
Stuart21UK
I think the 981 was 2012......perhaps delivery's were later 2012, early 2013 though? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Boxster/Cayman

Some research in the V=Pages of the parts catalogues shows that 987 production ceased in May 2012 and the 2011 model year ran August 2010 to June 2011 and 2012 model year running June 2011 to May 2012. The 981 cat shows production started in June 2012 listed as 2013 Model Year cars (although parts cat is titled 2012 - 2016) and from then on, the model year continues to change in June rather than August as it did historically. 🤓 7 hours ago, Terryg said: The 981 came out in 2013 so my guess is they were counting the 987.1 and 987.2 as the same product range. To Porsche the 987 is the 987 as an overall model, no .1 and .2, although what we call the .2 is sufficiently different to have a different official parts catalogue. The above notwithstanding it looks as though Porsche define a 'Classic' as model types out of production for 20+ years.
