cruise control

I have just bought a 2011 987 Boxster 3.4 S PDK. I cannot get the cruise control to engage but it might just be me! It seems to me like the button on the end of the stalk is stuck in? It is pretty well flush and feels solid. Is it a known problem? Can anyone put a photo up showing how far it should protrude so I can compare it to mine, or if there is anyone in central Lancs I could meet up with to have a quick look. I am hoping it will be covered under warranty if it is actually u/s.

Thanks

Stan

Think you need to be going above a certain speed for it to engage - not sure what it is but I think it works at 20mph. mine certainly matches the above photo - it's not a massive amount of travel.- sort of a mobile phone power button - but it's a definite click and you get the green light - then you have to set the speed....

Thanks for your reply's. Has anyone got a cruise control for sale?

Rare as hen's teeth.....at least for a decent price. You may get one from a breaker such as Douglas Valley or 9apart online/eBay but won't be cheap. Alternatively do an extensive online search using the part no in various forms e.g. 987xxx etc,  987-xxx- etc, 987.xxx. etc  or 987 xxx etc. I got one from a Dutch breaker 4 or 5 years ago at a decent price and I think more recently someone got one from the USA. Good luck.

Installed a cruise but its not working - bought cruise kit off a chap on here - coded the DME and the Col switch - I have an NT520 so cant get the dash light part. Is there anyway I can check anything?

Or is there anyone close to Peterborough that I could come visit with Piwis or the full doodad - so I can get the green light coded too?

I think the foxwell units lack the instrument cluster coding capability

There are three places to code it.  Dme and steering column to make it work. Instrument cluster to see it happening.

all I can suggest re checking is to see if your unit has a lamp test function to make sure the light comes on. Outside that. Indy or local enthusiast with a PIWIS seem to be the only routes

Thanks Paul P - found I also needed to code in the Gateway. So using the NT520 - its steering column switch, DME and Gateway. I still cant get the indicator lamp coded. Also weirdly it wasnt working and then I filled up as it was 25 mile range and then I could get it to work?? So not sure if its user error.
I also could see the stalk voltages in the live data so I knew that I had plugged it in and it was seeing the voltages... so I guess I just need someone to do the notification thing

Interesting.  Gateway isn’t required when coding via piwis.  I have done 2 recently and both have been dme column and cluster. That follows the Porsche doc for retro fit. I guess the foxwell may represent something slightly differently.

when I first coded both cars I scanned them. Both reported a coding error from steering column. I took that to mean it could see the switch.

I'm tempted to do a road trip down to you - will see if there is anyone closer 😉 first....

Pop over to Dove House at Rushden.  Believe it or not they activated my 986 cruise FOC even though I wasn't a customer back then. Strangely enough I am now, and although I do most of my own work they service it once a year so another set of (expert) eyes look at it.

PS, I'm not suggesting it will be FOC but it will be done correctly and its a lot closer to Peterborough than Rochester, and would most likely cost less than the fuel for the round trip.

I've used Dovehouse for a service every year since I got the Cayman, alternating between major and minor. I just can't bring myself to stretch it out to 2 years between servicing, even though that is the recommendation. They are about an hour's drive for me, and even though there are a few Porsche specialists nearer to me, I always think Dovehouse will do a decent job. I trust them not to rip me off, and they have been great so far👍

Thanks I have used Dovehouse and will see if they can fit me in for a service - Rennsport was the other that I was considering. Which is daft as there is a Porsche Indy in the Boro just its not got a good rep....

First indy with an apparently good rep I went too really only wanted to work on 911s, preferably air cooled, and his prices for anything reflected this, oh, and then add the VAT!  Sometimes its down to a personal experience, but if others give a bad report then avoid...

I might see the local to me can do it as presumably they could manage a minor service - only doing it to keep the stamps as I'd do it myself otherwise, and use their coding doodad to do the instrument cluster

Given them a try, or at least call them and ask for a quote for the service and cruise programming.  BTW Dove House also have loan cars (Minis) available.  Standard service prices are on their website.  Minor is £330, major £414 incl VAT in both cases.  Porsche servicing and repairs in Northampton, Northamptonshire (dovehousecars.com)

My service book is out of space for stamps...

For indicative prices, see Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.

Porsche 993, 996 and 997 Service Oxford | Wrightune

Good prices even when you add the VAT at 276 and 366 for minor and major particularly are prices tend to go up as you go further south; is a loan car free (or even available) if required?

Tried local to me and they said - computer says no - said Porsche dealer only 🤬.
I get that they have the right to refuse - I have no issues with that position. The 'We didnt install it therefore no we wont code it.' but to give me misinformation - I know it can be done as there are several on here that have the kit .... so frutstrating.
Going to call Dovehouse now...
