fizz
A fellow member on a FB 986 page shared this bill they got. I think they are maybe taking the biscuit with some of the labour costs such as the coil pack and tubes labour being separate. Then theres the labour of the struts too which take 5min per corner. The work has been done but going tomorrow to collect so just getting some leverage to question some of the costs. Toddie
Ouch, that sounds a bit heavy, agree about the labour for the struts, & the labour for the spark plug tubes etc.
GmanB
Pretty sure the boot struts are excessively expensive. Vaguely recall paying £20 for each end on mine. I would imagine there was at least a call before carrying out the additional work?
jonogt6
Wow that's a hefty bill but a fairly comprehensive list of item replaced. I'm assuming all those bits were authorised...if so probably about right. Got a great deal on an AOS if its genuine.
½cwt
Agree with @jonogt6 AOS labour is a bargain. (Looks like either £100 or £120 an hour +VAT.) Not sure why front and rear struts take £10 different longer, both two struts, both fit in the same way. Given they did the plugs, charging £70 to then swap 2 coils is odd given the other items that are zero labour, similarly the spark plug tubes, if doing the tubes and you've already got as far as getting the coils and plugs out it is an extra hour work. Maybe some ham fisted DIYer had rounded one of the nuts and the Porsche master technician had to be called to use the special Snap-on mole grips. Is this a typical example of a 'reassuringly expensive' Porsche specialist service bill? £100 to change the serpentine belt and £110 (+VAT!) to change four gas struts is daylight robbery but you wouldn't want any old back street mechanic not knowing the importance of torquing your engine cover screws and nuts to the correct settings. fizz
"When i picked up the car i said i was not happy with the amount of labour to fit the struts (and it’s £100 per hour) so they are going to fit a new microswitch for free when it arrives (out of stock until July!) as windows still not closing fully. They didn’t charge for some things and they are ‘reassuringly expensive’ as someone said! And i got a major service stamp in my book. I will take the car to a local mechanic for simple repairs. Thanks for all your help! Will join BoXa.net" Thanks all round for the feedback. 👌
½cwt
Its a handy forum here with no agenda except the cars (well mostly) and having some fun with like minded souls.
Shazbot
Each task would be charged at a rate for the job, using Autodata or similar. That's standard specialist. A decent 'one person owned' place would be more likely to put associated tasks together and charge labour accordingly.

And that is why a 'decent' indy is well worth finding. Using the standard charge for doing all of a job even if other parts are en route is profiteering in my mind as you are double charging for parts of the work. dpg123
£100 + VAT + parts (total £135.58) seems wildly expensive to replace a drive belt. That's literally a 5 minute job, if that... Just curious, why 11 wheel bolts?

With respect, by the time you have removed the carpet, the retaining screws and the access cover in the fire wall and then it is possiblly 5 minutes just on the belt and the fit it all back again. 15 to 20 mins in a worship I'd say, but I do agree, not £100 of labour.
