It is a great improvement and thoroughly recommended.

Perhaps this upgrade is almost good enough to go in Mick's new topic in The Lounge. The best thing you have bought for your car....

So I was joking with a mate asking them if ChatGPT could change my shifter for me.

He sent me this when he asked it what to do. Its quite scary how accurate a lot of this is! 😮

------------------

Changing a shifter in a Porsche Boxster involves several steps, and it's essential to follow them carefully to ensure a proper installation. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to change a shifter in a Porsche Boxster:

Tools and materials needed:

- Flathead screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Torx bits (T20, T25 and T30)
- Socket wrench
- Ratchet extension
- New shifter assembly
- Porsche Boxster repair manual (for reference)

1. Disconnect the battery: Before starting any work on your Porsche Boxster, it's important to disconnect the battery to prevent any accidental electrical short circuits. Locate the battery in the front trunk and disconnect the negative battery terminal using a socket wrench.

2. Remove the center console: First, remove the gear shift knob by unscrewing it counterclockwise. Then, using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry off the plastic trim surrounding the shifter. Remove the two screws holding the center console in place using a Phillips screwdriver.

3. Remove the center console side panels: Unscrew the T20 Torx screws located on each side of the center console. Carefully pull the side panels away from the console.

4. Remove the center console storage compartment: Open the storage compartment and remove the two T25 Torx screws located inside. Carefully lift the storage compartment out of the center console, disconnecting any electrical connectors if necessary.

5. Remove the center console frame: Locate and remove the T30 Torx screws securing the center console frame to the vehicle. There should be two in the front and two in the rear. Carefully lift the center console frame out of the vehicle, disconnecting any remaining electrical connectors.

6. Access the shifter assembly: With the center console removed, you now have access to the shifter assembly. Remove the four bolts securing the shifter assembly to the vehicle using a socket wrench and ratchet extension.

7. Disconnect the shifter cables: Carefully disconnect the shifter cables from the shifter assembly. There should be two cables – one for side-to-side movement and one for front-to-back movement. Each cable should have a retaining clip that can be removed using a flathead screwdriver.

8. Remove the old shifter assembly: With the shifter cables disconnected and the bolts removed, carefully lift the old shifter assembly out of the vehicle.

9. Install the new shifter assembly: Place the new shifter assembly into the vehicle, aligning it with the bolt holes. Reconnect the shifter cables to the new assembly, ensuring they are properly seated and secured with the retaining clips.

10. Secure the new shifter assembly: Reinstall the four bolts that secure the shifter assembly to the vehicle, tightening them with a socket wrench and ratchet extension. Make sure the shifter assembly is properly aligned and secure.

11. Reinstall the center console frame: Carefully place the center console frame back into the vehicle, aligning it with the bolt holes. Reconnect any electrical connectors that were disconnected during removal. Reinstall the T30 Torx screws to secure the center console frame in place.

12. Reinstall the center console storage compartment: Place the storage compartment back into the center console and secure it with the two T25 Torx screws. Reconnect any electrical connectors if necessary.

13. Reinstall the center console side panels: Align the side panels with the center console and secure them with the T20 Torx screws.

14. Reinstall the center console trim and gear shift knob: Place the plastic trim around the shifter and secure it with the two Phillips screws. Screw the gear shift knob back onto the shifter, turning it clockwise until tight.

15. Reconnect the battery: Reconnect the negative battery terminal to the battery using a socket wrench. Ensure the connection is secure.

16. Test the new shifter: Start the vehicle and test the new shifter assembly by going through all the gears. Ensure that the shifter moves smoothly and engages each gear properly. If you experience any issues or difficulty shifting, double-check your installation and consult the Porsche Boxster repair manual for additional guidance.

Once you've confirmed that the new shifter assembly is functioning correctly, your Porsche Boxster shifter replacement is complete.

everytime I try and use chat GPT I am in a que, still to try it out.  Its very cool and scary at the same time and I am slightly worried what the future brings.

I work in IT as a QA software tester and I'm reluctant and apprehensive regarding what I've heard about it till now.

Those steps above are bloody impressive though.

Pff, doesn't tell you to put the roof down so as not to bust through it taking the gear knob off...

It is catching up with us, it assumes we humans are not that stupid or over enthusiastic (take your pick).

I asked Chat GPT how to give a cat a pill. Here was its suggestions.

How to give a cat a pill:

Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil, and blow down drinking straw.

Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

Retrieve cat from neighbour's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard, and close door onto neck, to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of Scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. t*ss back another shot. Throw T-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

Call fire department to retrieve the damn cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbour who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil-wrap.

Tie cat's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak filet. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

Consume remainder of Scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and remove pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

Doesn’t mention cable alignment tool though or failing you don’t have one marking up with tipex the original positions of the cables
