First guess is the internal temp sensor which is behind the small round grille on the passenger end of the dash.

I think (waits to be proved wrong) all Boxster S models came with climate control.

My 987 S just has basic up/down temperature control rather than climate control, yet has BOSE. Odd configurator options at play.

I was thinking 986 S, but valid point.

That is what fixed mine when I had the same issue 👍

This.

You can get buy the part second hand from one of the breakers, but be careful they come in 2 types (I think), if you buy from  Douglas Valley I seem to remember that they called me to check the part number to make sure you get the right version.

When you take the vent off to get access, be careful when you put the vent back, the vent controls catch and separate, check the vent controls work before you do up the screws.

I disagree... I do not see the difference in sliding a bar up until the temp is right rather than pay more for it to display a figure instead. Rather spend the difference on more important stuff, like a heated steering wheel lol

It does more than just display the temperature, it controls it and holds it to that temperature. So, it removes the need to faff with up/down. Minor in the scheme of things, but is probably why it’s a much more expensive option.

There is the really basic which has not a/c pump so just works with warm engine air and ambient air to your set fan and your set position for hot/cold setting.  Then A/C which just provides hot/cold airflow you control as above.  Climate Control is a closed loop system which actively works to maintain the temp you have requested controlling the output and fan speed automatically.

I am aware of the options available :D

Number 2 is fine imo, but everyone is different :)

Thanks all. After looking around and from the advice here, I'm pretty sure it's the internal temperature sensor. So I need a replacement. Anyone got any ideas where to get a cheap one from?

Suggest start with pricing a genuine new one direct from Porsche.   You can usually ask for and get discount (10%) or so.

don’t assume online suppliers or breakers will be cheaper (if it’s genuine parts then direct to Porsche is usually cheapest and small pars they will post ) and some breakers just make up prices

Once you have a baseline then look around for equivalent or alternative parts.

Design911, normally a bit more expensive than OPC, but not massively = £370

I reckon what d911 advertise before vat and delivery is about what you pay all in from opc but still folks think “it’s a bargain” - not sure I understand why you would pay more for the same thing just because you can “add to basket “ on the website   But  hey   We all do what works for us

steve strange has a good reputation and they know their stuff so that’s probably a good steer.

I have seen other, non specialist, breakers quote “300” for 2nd hand parts that were 45 from opc

hence the recommendation to find out what new from source costs and then look at the options.

Here's a link to the D911 shop that includes VAT.  They sent me this after I challenged them on showing ex VAT prices to retail customers but this isn't what comes up in search results, so beware.  Remember their delivery cost has VAT to add too.

That is very handy, thanks! Saves me getting annoyed by going through the whole process and deciding against it when I see the total at the end of the process. Autodoc show the prices inclusive of VAT and they're usually cheaper in any case.

And so are Porsche directly.  The problem is on any internet search it still goes to the ex-VAT pages for D911 results.
