When in automatic PDK mode and cruising in 6th or 7th gear at 60mph, if I put my foot down, the throttle response is not instant, takes a few seconds and slowly builds up. Is this expected?

In Auto mode if you want the speed to pick up quicker mash the throttle into the carpet, it will kick down to an appropriate gear and then you'll get a quicker increase of speed. Or if you don't want warp speed then just press the throttle hard enough (but not to kickdown position) and then lift off and it'll drop a grear maybe 2.

    is that following activation???

my renewal has just come through

    Option
    1 YEAR 217.00

    Option
    3 years585.00

That's what Leicester OPC told me the cost was for my Boxster. It may have been for the first year including activation, it may have been cheaper for year 2 or may not have been. Could have been the OPC taking a cut on the price too as it was only written on the paperwork by them. I didn't enquire too hard as it wasn't a requirement of the insurance and the discount given by the insurance wasn't worth the extra cost.

  3. It's subscription with Vodaphone, you need to contact OPC to get the form for them to send off to get it activated at a cost of £235 a year. That was the cost when I got my car 3 years ago so may have gone up now.....

    one drive shaft needs replacing

    ouch that's not good news.

Did they explain why? I assume the CV joint has got play in it? Are any of the rubber boots split that might lead to this failure or are they all good?

Is it  OPC or indy? By chance they aren't saying the whole driveshaft needs replacing just cos a boot has a split in it are they?

Useful links on changing the battery yourself? don't want to face having everything re-programmed...

I followed something like this: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=770011

The 2 steps I did after changing are below, never had any issues or warnings after doing mine:

    • After the battery is connected:
With the DME, it is necessary to carry out a learning and adaptation routine as described below:
    • Switch ignition on for 30 seconds without starting the engine.
    • Do not actuate accelerator pedal.
This completes the adaptation of the throttle valve adjusting unit.

    • Power windows
The end positions of the power windows are deleted from the control unit when the battery is disconnected and connected.
Perform the following procedure for all power windows:
    • Actuate rocker switch and fully close window once.
    • Actuate rocker switch once more to close.
The upper end position of the window is stored.
    • Actuate rocker switch and fully open window once.
    • Actuate rocker switch once more to open.
The lower end position of the window is stored.
  6. Some say you can save or reduce the 111 point check if you have a service at the same time. So depending on your service schedule might be an option. You'll need a full Porsche Service history or they'll want you to pay to have them done again to make sure it is.

Also make sure you have N Rated tyres, genuine Porsche battery and genuine discs/pads as they can decline putting a warranty on if they are not genuine. They also mandate a Porsche Service history, so if your thinking of going indy for future services it might make claims more difficult. (It's an insurance product not a true warranty like when the car is new so the block exemption does not apply)

although I can use Sheffield, when I visit mum, so I'll check who does MOT in house.

I use Sheffield OPC. They are JCT600 and have a Merc JCT600 garage next door to them. They told me when I asked that they use the Merc garages MOT bay but Porsche Techs do the MOTs, verified when I checked my dashcam after the first one.

No I don't think I will renew the warranty, unless they are still doing it without the 111 point check, then I may be swayed.

Mines up in July, and when I checked a month or so back they were still doing the renewals without the 111 point check. Just drop you preferred service member of staff an email they will tell you.

Still mulling over the £2325 +VAT for some aural pleasure!

Worth every single penny! The week I had mine without it while they ordered it in was, as someone else described recently, like driving a tesla, so quiet. Would never have one without it.

  8. Nice write up, like you I found it to be a better car overall but with the same drawbacks. One I noticed was it felt like they had put the paddles further away from a natural hand position, just had to reach slightly to use them rather than in my 981 where they are just in the right place and more natural. As for the lag, not as bad in the 718S as in the 718 but still noticeable and off putting.

Looks-wise I do actually prefer the Cayman, in fact I prefer the old-shape 987 Cayman even more

Good to hear I'm not the only one that think the same as this :)

I have them on my 2012 car and are the originals afaik…

I guess they would have been an option then before they became mandatory in 2015 in that case

As you say, there are plenty of 2012/2013 cars around and I’ve not seem much talk of these needing changing yet.

My 2013 doesn't have them fitted. I think the regulation only came in from about 2015 for them to be mandatory on cars.

  11. My Boxster is a 2nd car also and I found Aviva the cheapest by a long way for my renewal this year, but only through Compare The Meercat site, not direct. it was 40% cheaper than my Flux renewal this year. I know I will be going back again next year or hunting around again.

I’ve never seen anything on my insurance about locking wheel nuts, might need to check

From a quick google I got this which makes sense I guess:

"If the car is fitted with locking wheel nuts from the factory and you remove them your insurance company would consider this a modification and increased risk. Remove them by all means but don't expect them to pay out if the wheels get nicked. If you inform them you have replaced the locking nuts with standard ones they would pay out but would have increased your premium."

then I'm going to replace the things with normal bolts

Depending on which rims you have you might want to think carefully about ditching the lockers... Just found out mine are £1826 a wheel from Porsche (price for a front, no idea if rear is more)

Prices have increased 10% in the last couple of months , extra charges as we are not in th EU apparently

    £2592 according to tequipment.

    https://content3.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment/TeqFinder.nsf/TeqFinder?ReadForm&ba=Boxster&ma=PCGB (RL)&sp=1&bt=981&mo=Boxster&ka=Performance&co=30&ac=product&pr=660ACA72C3728B9FC12579810049EBBB

Which is about £100 more than 3 years ago when I looked at the price for when I was looking to buy mine. Which is about a 4% increase. Although I got mine for £1600 as I negotiated it into my purchase as a deal breaker.

Inflation rather than brexit i think

    I emailed 5 OPC. Only 2 replied

Therein lies the problem, they probably get loads of emails a day from people interested and some wasting their time. So they never always take the email serious and just bash out the party prices. If you want to be taken serious then a phone call and a discussion with them can often lead to more sensible prices

Interesting discussion on the failure rate. Touching wood mine is a 2013 car on 55k and pretty sure they’re original

2013 car here too but on 46k and all good so far (famous last words!)

That’s really useful. Anyone able to get this under £2k?

I got it under £2k but only as part of a purchase.

I assume that of you pay for this, you keep the old exhaust? Not like it’s a warranty replacement. I’d have thought a standard back box has some value?

You can keep the old one if you wish, although transporting it back in the box would be entertaining. As for value, negligible as modern standard exhausts last 10+ years by the time it's worth something yours will have rotted away too, lol

  18. I'm sure the tyre fitter didn't advise mixing as it would increase his sales....

I have Pirelli P Zero N0 on the front and N1 on the back. No issues at all. On a car that is no longer in warranty I wouldn't even bother with N Rated if the option was there

As I said in my video you need to do these as soon as you can and then hopefully you get to them whilst they are still an easy DIY.  Mine gave way so had a loud car on the drive home,  the old pieces were stuck but the repair was only £60 at the indy with genuine parts,.

Any recommendations for online nut/bolt/gasket supplier for these?
