Great thoughts everyone, do I need the power jump from a non-S in reality?  I have not driven a GTS yet, I can't find one within 50miles of me   I have thought of fitting a PSE  as some have suggested.

Like others I mistakenly thought you were going from an S to a GTS, but can understand that attraction of Non S to GTS.

I had the 2.7 in manual and moved to the 3.4 S in PDK. Yes the 3.4 is quicker and has more torque but I find I can't have as much fun using the full rev range in the 3.4 as it gets to illegal speeds much quicker. See if you can find an S local and have a test drive, the performance jump from the non S to the S will give you an idea of the GTS power as that's only another 15bhp more I think (315bhp to 330bhp)

Alternatively pop on the PSE on yours, the 2.7 I had came with it and it was awesome, stick on an extended warranty, enjoy it and pocket the spare cash for other things

  2. The only desirable option I can see missing from that spec is the PSE. Pretty low mileage too for a 2012. I can see the attraction of a newer 981 GTS over the 4 pot 718 GTS , unless it was the 4.0 GTS. But with your mileage, better the devil you know?

Later 981 GTS are commanding a fair price at the moment, same as the 981S's are so unless you have a reason to focus on the GTS a newer 981S might have the same spec/options and be easier to find. Personally I wouldn't touch a 4pot 718, but each to their own.

As for value, look at what others are selling for, but don't expect to get that in a part ex deal.

  3. I've only had non PASM 981s on 20" and always been very impressed with the ride, it rode far better than my old Audi daily. Yes it's 10mm higher, but that helps with the speedhumps around here too. I'd say PASM is a nice to have, not a deal breaker. Got PASM on the Macan GTS but I imagine its a very different system to the 981 given the cars purpose

My 981 has hill hold so if you're on an incline it doesn't creep when you release the brake pedal.  I can't quite remember now if it holds permanently or temporarily because I don't drive mine much. I think it even illuminates a green word on the dash to the effect too.

Yep the 981 hold permanently until you press the accelerator. As does the Macan. The Missus has a Polo that only hold for about 8 seconds.... not great when you get used to it holding permanently and forget, then suddenly find yourself rolling backwards 🤣

If you pop it into drive, does the car creep forward when you release the brake?

Yes, if you've not got the handbrake on, hold hasn't been activated and you're not pointing up a hill

  6. I've read it's mainly the 3.0 V6 up to the 2019 facelift, not sure it it carries on after that point as they swapped to a different engine a 2.9 V6 I think. Not 100% sure as i've not read up on the later models.

  7. Yeah it's a fairly common problem with a very expensive fix. Well worth the warranty. I got them to check my 2017 GTS for any leaks before I agreed the sale last month and nothing showing as yet but I have the warranty as backup. Same with the common transfer box issue, no sign of that yet for me.

  8. Picked up my new (to me) Macan GTS from OPC Edinburgh yesterday.

17 plate, LED PDLS+, collapsible spare, pano roof, 21 inch Sport Classics, Bose, sport design mirrors, adaptive cruise, heated carbon wheel, interior carbon pack, side blades in carbon among other bits.

Came with new discs and pads all round, 6 year service done and 40k PDK oil change done. Now totally filthy after the drive back home and needing another fill up. 27mpg achieved. And trusting the adaptive cruise took some doing but now I think it's a great option.

You chaps need to RTFM a bit more…

    - If the battery is flat lift and hold the driver’s door handle

    - use the key and turn the lock 90 degrees anti-clockwise and remove the key

    - release the door handle and lift it again to open the door

^ This. Worked fine when I had a dead battery. Connected up another to the fuse board to open the frunk. Simples

  10. This is for new cars, not existing ones on the road.

£2,365 is a £120 increase from the current 2021 rate.

It comes into effect on April 1, 2022 and were first announced during last year’s Autumn Budget.

  11. I cant get the sound to work on your file. But if its similar to mine, its a tink tink noise, like tapping a coin on a radiator. Mine does it after being left for a while. A good run normally sorts it. Probably a sticky lifter

Wow, what a difference.  looking at my 8yr service on my 2013 S, 23000k miles. With Brake fliud change and Plugs

    Porsche Portsmouth     £1161 inc

    .....

that Portsmouth Price seems a little excessive. When I got prices for my 2013 middle of last year I got this from the Service Dept of OPC Sheffield:

"The 8 year service is £925.00 and this includes the spark plug change and brake fluid change."

If you are thinking of using OPC then get a quote from another local'ish OPC even if you dont intend to use them to use as a bargaining chip.

I can see the value of the official route, but they want me to refurbish wheels, replace discs etc all when they don’t need doing particularly?

That's a new one I've not heard before, having wheels refurbed before OPC warranty can be put on?

At the end of the day you pays your money and takes your risk. They are all just insurance policies with different catches in them, pot luck if they will cover what you need when needed.

£60 per month away is £720 a year. Porsche Warranty is £660 a year (or cheaper per year if you go 2 or 3 years) But has extra costs to meet the requirements of the warranty and OPC servicing. But will 100% guaranteed cover the transmission mount failures.

I decided to go warranty free and within 3 months my transmission mount went. Pot luck? or punishment for not renewing my warranty? But I'm still on the positive side as I'm lucky I'm capable of changing a mount myself

Not sure I agree with this as it says Backfire - presumably that's artificial pops and crackles - active only in Sport not in Sport Plus. I will admit I only tried Sport Plus briefly but surely it still does this, maybe not?

I guessed Backfire was the pops and crackles too. On mine it's doesn't pop and crackle in Sports+ it uses all the fuel and mapping for performance rather than show. You do still get the odd one but it's the mechanical ones from the exhaust design not the fabricated ones from the mapping.

  15. Not sure of the origins of this graphic I found on Planet-9 but it matches my discussions with the OPC and other sources and my feel in the car. 3 different levels of throttle "response" and 3 different levels (and mappings) for the pdk changes. The changes in Sports+ are much faster than in Sports, which is faster than in normal.

Also in Sports and Sports+ there are different levels of PSM applied, so in sports you get a bit more slip before it kicks in to save you and more in sports+

I have sports+ because the car came with it. It wasn't a requirement but if I tracked the car it would be. But I don't have PASM either as I find the normal suspension perfectly fine.

And yes the mounts are fkin expensive outside of warranty having just replaced one and now sat waiting for the other to go :)

Hi Guys, I am planning on changing the transmission mounts on my 986S I have bought the 2 hydraulic mounts without the brackets, that attach the mounts to the sub frame and gearbox. I have the Bentley manual for the Boxster and it says that it is just a matter of removing 2 bolts/nuts then another 2 bolts to remove the bracket and mount from the car but it says not to remove the torx nut that holds the hydraulic mount to the bracket as it will destroy the mount. This is not a problem with removing the old mounts but will it also destroy the new mounts when fixing them to the brackets ? I really don’t understand how removing the torx nuts will destroy the hydraulic mount can anyone explain this and how will I avoid damaging the new mounts ?

I you take a look at my PADM thread for the 981 I believe the mounting system in the same, just minus the electronics and expensive mount. Remove bracket and mount together, the mount has a square section that sits in the bracket so tightening it up should cause no issues, loosening it might if the square is not kept seated in the bracket. Easy to do with the bracket in a vice, impossible to do on the car (well the 981 anyway) The torx nut you mention will take some effort to undo also.
