I've now filled it to the max as measured on the dash, started it up and then shut down, I'll wait 30 mins and refill to the max mark again.
Rog.
Not sure why you need to have it at max? It's not a target 😜One or two bars below ? less likely to be over filled.. imho. Not saying I've not done the same in the past though.

I usually just measure how much comes out and check the level's okay after replacing.unless yours loses oil I would think that'll do..

If your car has Xenon headlights, you will have a level sensor on the front suspension and on the back.
Only halogen on mine.👍

Just to clear this up..Track rods and tuning forks were shot on both sides... Control arms still had life in them but Mechanic had trouble getting one off so I'm glad it's done anyway. Jacked up when I got home and no play at all 👍£290 labour including alignment I got the parts..

This car is new to me but it's apparant that the leak has been going on for sometime and the previous owner just ignored itOoops sounds like me and Boxstercol, who's had a weep for over a year.. Two peas in a pod... Great work @SpeedyGee

Mid engined car where cooling system compromised by design, not sure I’d agree with that…
Any coolant leak isn’t ideal in my opinion.
For sure Good point. I'm a busy boy but it'll be done when I have the time.Nearest independent isn't local and she's my daily.I wouldn't trust anyone local to do it because I believe its not the easiest of jobs.. Would like it done properly.

Could it be play in the wheel bearing?
54 minutes ago, SpeedyGee said:I assume @Liberty also did a 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock check for wobble as well as the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock one.
If the same wobble happens in both positions, that's bearing play, if the movement is only at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock, that's track/tie rod ends. Thanks both..I'll double check.Silly me..The knock did sound like it emanated from the rack area but won't hurt to have another look.should be getting the work done Monday/Tuesday so was going to remove the under tray and spray some more WD just to make life easier hopefully.. Also both boots have zip ties holding them to the rack so for sure they've been done in the past..

Now I didn't 😃 but I do feel the Mot guy was fairly thorough and that's a good thing.. Some of the old MOTs don't have any adviseries at all.. That's more concerning for me tbh.Not even a engine obscured etc,
-
TRW on the outer not sure about the inner tbh .. Have got TRW Inner and outer to replace. I've also ordered coffin arms and tuning forks but looking through the paperwork coffin arms were done in 2014 with TRW .Also this on the mot
Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement centre pin bush on front lower arm worn (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Anyways she's done over 100k but wondered if it's just something usual for boxsters.. Do the racks wear? Cannot say I feel any play in the steering over all..
-
My car has gone through a few in its life.. Getting them done again next week hopefully.Jacked up the front end at the weekend to take a look as the nearside inner was an advisory on the mot.. Hands at nine and three on the tyres and yes movement.. More on the nearside but also movement on offside ..Is it usual on these cars for them to need changing fairly often? Could it be something else causing the issue?
TIA

What has been reported is an increasing rate of coolant loss rather than sudden failure.
Good to know.. Not something anyone needs to have major concerns about if only a small coolant weep..On the to do list yes.Preventative maintenance wise the water pump is more likely to leave you by the roadside and costs a lot less to replace thankfully.Have I done it? No..

Has anyone reported any crossover pipe actually letting go and leaving a member stranded @Menoporsche ?

Get the top mounts and bump stop rubbers done too, they will most likely be perished.
Alignment?tbh it's a rabbit hole,nearside inner track rod?

Replaced the elastics on the roof. They were a bit stretched to say the least.
Easy fix. £1.50 for 1m of elastic (only need 5" per side) and 20 mins of my time for both sides. I reckon half of that time was probably spent trying to get the thread through the eye of the needle 😂
Roof fabric goes into the gulley everytime now.
Gotta love cheap fixes.
Did mine when I bought the car 6 years ago with the OH over the shoulder bolder holder elastic... Still going strong.. Cheaper than your fix...🤪

Thanks for this but I've been down the restorer route already although not this brand. What I'd really like is the correct blue..Dark blue it is not.
Even if I could find the correct blue dye however I'm not sure it would work.I'm sure like most my top has the dreaded fade where it is supported.
Thanks again though.

As previously said well diluted Milton is good for getting it clean. Then a couple of coats of the fabsil (not fabsil gold) will make it look much better and provide protection from the sun.Needs doing a couple of times a year though.A more permanent fix would be to get a permanent dye.. That's the next route for me, mines blue however.

be careful with 718 rear lights, the styling may not gel with the 987.1 (or. 2 for that matter)
I agree.Like changing ambers on a 986.They regret it now for sure.
As for those naff spoiler decals and cheap and nasty sequential led indicators. personal number plates.Oh no.I seriously need therapy. No one buy them pleased, I beg you.And if you do keep it to yourself.

Rear Springs
in 986

Another gloom monger here..My last MOT had advisory for front inner tie rods worn.. Left it a few months then in to a local mechanic to sort..He found I'd broken both front springs so got that done first then back again a month later for inner an outer tie rods coffin arms a tuning fork.. Now I kind of regret not getting the shocks, bump stops and top mounts done at the same time.
I fear unless you're rear end ( hello misses) has been done fairly recently suspension parts will be needed .I guess you need it sorting soon to get it through the Mot but if not then shop around for parts and any savings there can offset some of the labour costs.Auto doc were half the price for OE tie rods in my case than euro car parts but coffin arms cheaper on eBay than Auto doc.
Don't know who's doing the work for you but suspension work can be done by any good mechanic so maybe you can save in labour costs as well.. And you'll most likely need an alignment after its all done..
Sorry mate but again on the upside the car feels so much better after.
My car's now got a leaking bank one chain tensioner, coolant leak and rear end suspension needs refresh.. Hope that eases the pain..
