At least you can move it to open if it's not seized and get them to replace it when you are back 🙃

I believe that’s in the open position. It’s open when the car’s first started then closes as the vacuum is built up. It then opens again on operating the sport/sport plus button or exhaust button is pushed 👍

I went to several international road safety conferences for work. I remember one comment that a big chunk of biker deaths was not 19 year olds as we might think but men over 40, who had got their licence at 18 and an accompanying small engined bike, left it for 20 years during marriage and kids, and then treated themselves to a nice 600+… without understanding just how much more powerful bikes had become over the years.

Next time I’ll propose a survey of spouses.

In the Road safety world commonly referred too as “The Born again Biker”

So in conclusion, driver aids are bad and we are all in agreement that we must remove the fuses controlling ABS and PSM at sunrise tomorrow.

As a current Advanced Driving Instructor with the Emergency Services the topic “Active Safety Devices that Assist the Driver” is often an interesting one. Commonly it is the lack of understanding amongst drivers on What it is and How the devices assist the driver is the underlying issue. It’s an interesting topic and turning these devices off, if possible, is another topic that stirs emotions. My advice would be understand the system and its operation and drive the vehicle within its limits. On the public roads anyway. On track is another topic.

    A very valid point.

Mines not a daily but travelling down to the Euro Tunnel last year I managed my best ever fuel efficiency. So there not bad when driven economical 😳😂

    Does it actually work?

On my auto X3m40d and I'm sure on my old pdk 718, when coming to a stop at a set of traffic lights, I can / could give the brake pedal a hard push and the auto hold function would trigger.

I could take my foot of the footbrake and rest it, needing to press the  gas when the lights change to pull away.

My PDK 981s  has an auto hold light on the dash that illuminates on turning the key through ACC position on startup, but it never engage on the flat when diving in town. Ive always got to keep the footbrake pressed to hold the car back at lights.

    Normal? Or not working correctly?

I'm aware its may work on a  hill, ( will tryptophan it when I remember!) button I'm specifically talking a but being able to take foot off footbrake at lights

IIRC Auto Hold only engages on an incline not on the flat 👍

Did they replace gearbox oil too ?

No as that’s on the 12yr I believe. Cars only on 29k so I wouldn’t of brought it forward although I might do it next yr so it’s not on the major service in two yrs time👍

I've just had a quote on an OPC 10 yr service at £750 Inc VAT

I’ve just had a 10yr service including spark plugs and MOT at a well respected Indy £470.

So, what's the consensus on the best piggy back card for Android auto/Carplay at the moment? I've already read through some of the threads, the Isudar one for example, which didn't inspire confidence. My PCM has nav and DAB already.

I had the Automotive Apple CarPlay fitted to my PCM 3. I didn’t have SatNav so it was a massive improvement for me.

You want carplay in your 981 simple as that, Porsche nav updated or not is not going to cut the mustard.

I must admit it has been an absolute brilliant upgrade to my non sat Nav PCM. I use Waze every time Im in the car just for speed limit alerts etc. it’s so much easier than having a phone in a cradle somewhere IMHO 👍

Is there any details anywhere regarding the spacing of the letters if placing on rear bumper?

The lettering should come with a template I believe

I’ve got a set of brand new matt black PORSCHE rear letters for sale, replicas but very good.

Ive had the same ones on mine for the last 12 months with no issues.

I did 520 miles Sat/Sun visiting Anglesey with friends for a stop over. Roads were ok but a combination of traffic and average speed cameras did spoil some of the driving.

Lord Drakeford and his band of halfwits in the Welsh Assembly are going crazy with their so called approach to CO2 reduction and Road Safety. By September this year all roads with street lighting within 200m of each other will be posted 20mph unless otherwise stated. Loads of National speed limits are being reduced to 50mph. One of the famous roads here in S Wales, over the black mountains is now covered by average speed cameras. It’s now a monitored 40mph road. Several years back it was a National 🙁

    Success, contrary to OPC.

I took the roof off yesterday, a couple of the steps are a bit fiddly like removing the torx screw which keeps the flap cover assembly in place and actually pulling the flap cover assembly out as you need to pull back the roof lining backwards in order to pull the assembly out.

Once the roof was on the floor, I then tested the OE microswitch via the loom multiconnector as before by pressing the buttons directly and they made/break cleanly although the pressure needed to press the one I thought was duff seemed to be light and the resistance indicated on the multimeter seemed to vary whilst going to open circuit or closed circuit.  So I fitted my new microswitch anyway and put the roof back in place.

This morning I refitted only what I need to, to test the roof.

I again tested using a multimeter at the loom connector moving the roof up and down by hand, and where I was getting eratic output from SIGNAL1 microswitch, I was now getting the same as I got from SIGNAL microswitch on the rh side, making and breaking in the correct roof positions.

So I connected all the electrics back up, put the roof motors back into auto, and first thing I did as I had the roof down, was press the down button on the centre console, and as I had left the screen hook in the extended position which is where is was when I removed everything, as soon as I pressed the roof button to close, the hook retracted.

I then closed the roof, it operated perfectly. I closed then opened the roof, it opened correctly, with the hook retracting soon after the roof moved away from the screen which it wasn't doing before.

So although the old microswitches seemed to be making and beaking when tested in isolation, in position something wasn't operating correctly inside the switch assembly causing the roof to stop working.

The only bit I don't understand, from Jeff Richardson's diagnostic video is that the outputs from SIGNAL m/s (rh) and SIGNAL1 m/s (lh) operate in parallel so in theory if one fails providing the other is still working correctly the roof should still work and the wiring diagrams I posted before agrees with this as the output cables are joined before then going to the ecu beneath the drivers seat.

So glad you’ve achieved a successful outcome and so awesome that you’ve achieved it on your own 💪 Well beyond my skills 😂. I’m aware of at least 5 roof issues exactly like this. So a rare issue at the moment I would say and hopefully it will not become a common problem as the cars age. Only time will tell I suppose. At the moment though I had a bit of trouble getting sorted the Indy route as because it’s not common they didn’t want to touch it. Hence why I ended up using my local OPC. Who it must be said were as good as gold and even looked after me when it came to billing. As I was really concerned as they had no experience with the problem of a trail and see if it works approach with the bills racking up 😳
Roof down with confidence now then with summer coming that it’ll go down when needed and back up also 👍

yep, i was getting the dash warning "roof fault" every time.  I have an iCarsoft obd code reader, reset tool which is not as expensive as PIWIS but not a cheapy either.

That doesn't show any fault codes logged for the roof either.

Just got the call from Porsche that my microswitch is in, just need a dry day now to get the car out, roof off and fit the new microswitch.

Am "glad" to hear you were getting the same fault and it was the microswitches that fixed it.

I am still fathomed though by "logics" and am fairly ok with sussing ok electrical stuff.

But the microswitch is an electro-mechanical part and therefore always more likely to fail than an electronic part.

roof electrics wiring diagram for anyone interested.

Hopefully you will get a successful outcome. Keep us posted. A few photos taken during the removal/install would be interesting 👍

When my roof is on its way back to being fully open, before it gets there it stops because the hook has not retracted into its housing and because the ecu is not getting a signal from the hook microswitch to say it is retracted, it stops the roof from going any further.

Yep this was how my roof was behaving. Weird thing was although in the binical it showed roof fault as it happened nothing was stored on the ECU. So when plugged into the diagnostic reader nothing showed up 🤷‍♂️
