Nicely squeezed in there, obviously a tight fit, what with all those other cars.... :)

Probably would have been easier to judge the space if there were other cars around, but this is how I keep the Cayman in pristine condition. I always park miles away from the shops, well away from everyone else if possible, to avoid getting car park dinks on the doors.  OCD? Me? Naah, obviously not! 😂

Drove mine to Tesco today, couldn't park it straight as I can't see the corners so pretended, in my own mind, that it's the missus' car and I'm not used to driving it.

Glad I'm not the only one on here that can't park their bleedin' car straight.... I also can't judge the length front or back either, so almost always end up sticking out too far at the rear. Serves me right for buying the first Cayman I viewed, without considering essential extras like reversing cameras and sensors 😂

I parked in Morrisons car park this morning, almost empty with loads of spaces, so I drove in forwards, and still parked with at least a foot overhanging into the space behind me...

How do I keep the battery in good condition?

Buy a new one every 5 years 😂  Seriously though, just drive the car as often as you can, and assuming your alternator is working fine that should keep the battery in a decent and charged up state 👍 I think some people on here use either a plugged in or a solar charger/conditioner if the car isn't going to be used for a longer period (i.e. Over winter storage, if that's your thing). As @Topbox has just said, CTEK seems to be a popular choice around here.

Forgot to add on number 4 above, post some pics of your car when you get a minute, but DO NOT under any circumstances have misaligned centre caps on the alloys - The pointy bit at the bottom of the Porsche logo MUST point towards the tyre valve - THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT! 🤣

  4. Welcome to the forum mate 👍

My advice would be to simply spend some time nosing around on here, checking out the existing posts (some are more useful than others... 😂), and don't be afraid to ask questions if you need to. The members on here have got a massive amount of accumulated knowledge about all things related to the Boxster, and are always happy to help.

In response to your questions, I can add my 2p worth here:

    1: Yes, definitely.

2: Make sure the engine is fully warmed up before giving it the beans.

3: No problem, as long as the battery is in good condition.

4: Drive it as often as you can, and don't forget to wave whenever you see another Porsche on the road ☺️

I’ve just watched a couple of YouTube videos and it looks straight forward, but I can’t sew 😂

Can you operate a stapler...? I think you can use this method instead of sewing the elastic 👍

Good luck with the collection mate, no better feeling than picking up a Porsche, that's for sure ☺️

  6. Took my car to Dovehouse Motors for a major service today. As usual, they seem to have done an excellent job, and the  car is running beautifully. Only addition to the standard items was spark plugs, which he suggested needed changing next time, but I told him to fit them now. Advisories were: slight coolant leak from filler neck, O/S air con condenser damp. corrosion on exhaust flange fixings, and front brake discs require changing at next pad change.

They know I've increased the servicing to yearly instead of every 2 years since I bought the car, and he suggested 2 minors then a major, which is what I've had done so far. I'm currently doing approx 10,000 miles a year. Today's service was £708.00, and the previous minors were around half that (last year's was £378.00). Considering how reasonable my tax and insurance is, I think it's actually quite an affordable car to run 👍

    ☺️

Well to say I’m shocked is an under statement. But the latest valuation from WBAC has socked me. 2013 981 PDK with 32k miles and FSH has been getting reasonable prices recently until today. £18765 😳😳😳 Wow that’s down from 25k only a mth ago.

Sounds about right, I check mine on WBAC now and again, and it's currently down to £19,835 according to their system (2014 Cayman, manual, and similar mileage to yours). A moot point in my case, because mine is a keeper, but it's always good to keep an eye on things (It did go up in value just after I bought it a few years ago, but car prices went a bit crazy for a while back then... 😮)

At the end of the day, WBAC is a quick and easy way to shift your car, so I'd guess the prices reflect that.

  8. Booked the Cayman into Dovehouse for a service. Earliest they could do was 5th September, so they are obviously keeping busy at the moment...

Might be an expensive one this time, I reckon the front brakes will need sorting out, plus a few minor points that were raised last time will need inspecting. I've only done 5000 miles since the last service 12 months ago, but I prefer to get it looked at every year instead of 2 years as per the recommended schedule. That's far too long between oil changes IMHO.

Pop over to Dove House at Rushden.  Believe it or not they activated my 986 cruise FOC even though I wasn't a customer back then. Strangely enough I am now, and although I do most of my own work they service it once a year so another set of (expert) eyes look at it.

I've used Dovehouse for a service every year since I got the Cayman, alternating between major and minor. I just can't bring myself to stretch it out to 2 years between servicing, even though that is the recommendation. They are about an hour's drive for me, and even though there are a few Porsche specialists nearer to me, I always think Dovehouse will do a decent job. I trust them not to rip me off, and they have been great so far👍

  10. I've tried various options, including the magnetic air vent type.

I'm currently using this one, which is spring loaded and works quite well:

Lamicall Car Phone Holder, Universal Vent Mount - 360 Rotating Air Vent Cradle Stand for iPhone 14 Pro Max Plus, 13 12 Pro Max Mini, 11 Pro Xs XR X 8 7 6s, Samsung S21, HUAWEI, Mobile Phones - Black : Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Previously I had the Yosh magnetic type, which also works OK:

YOSH Magnetic Phone Car Mount Air Vent, 2-Pack Phone Holder for Cars Magnet Car Vent Phone Holder for iPhone 11 XS X XR Samsung S21 S20 S10+ A70 S10 Huawei P30 P20 Pro etc. with 4-Pack Metal Plates : Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

The only thing I would say is the vent holders block the airflow, so you have to remember to switch off that vent, or you risk freezing your phone into an ice block with the aircon on... 😂

Cayman? Isn't that the poor man's Boxster? 😁

    No.

I think it's due to the rear arches sticking out further than the front and your mind expecting to align the side of the car with the parking space as if it was flat sided. It's almost an optical illusion that you have to correct for.

My driveway has got block paving, so you would think it'd be easy to line up, but I never quite get it right. On the plus side, Mrs P has got sensors and a reversing camera on her EcoSport, and her parking is even worse than mine... 😄

Don't know if it's just me but, the low seating position and poor rear view from the Boxster is the worst car for reversing that I've driven.

It's not just you, and it's not just the Boxster either.  However hard I try, I cannot get the Cayman parked in a straight line when reversing (now waiting for a barrage of abuse about the Cayman not being a true driver's car... 😂)
