Tell the garage to drill them and put some thread inserts in.  It’s what the specialist do, meant to be stronger then straight into aluminium.  Get the new revised bolts for the calliper as they shorter and hopefully won’t have this issue again.

Handed them over to a local engineering shop who are going to helicoil them. Should be ready by Wed. 👍

Yes it does exist. And yes I have found mine on my 03 facelift. Mine is located on the drivers side. Underneath the headlamp. I only know this as it got snagged with the headlight when I was removing it. Hope this helps. 🤙🏻

Just to back this up on my 03 facelift too, found it under the drivers side light too so presume by taking out the arch liner you should be able to get to it.

It's a silver wire and looks like this.

  3. So, whilst inspecting under the car noticed a leak from the gear box where the linkage attaches to the drivers side.

Now it must have been there for time and it must be very slight as no issues with the gearbox when changing gear etc.

Now my mate is not a Porsche guy and he said normally there's a clip on the side here where the part pivots but there doesn't appear to be one.

How easy is it to replace this?

  4. So went into Leeds OPC today to pickup a part for my car and decided to try again but this time sit with a member of staff.

Filled out a form and by the time i got home had this email stating its finally been done.

They ignored all my calls and emails before requesting the same. Seems like they want you to physically go in and get it done.

Drill them out and put time certs or helicoils in, May have a helicoil kit, will check to my garage when I get home

See now im going to show my lack of mechanical awareness but my garage friend told me that he is reluctant to 're-thread' them for safety reasons, is that the same thing as you're suggesting?

Is that safe to do on this part?

  6. So... picked one bearing up from Leeds OPC for £57.53 as the only had one in stock so that wasn't bad considering the prices online and then the only other place that had them was Strasse who buy the parts direct from Porsche according to the OPC guy i spoke to.

Popped to Strasse and they charged me £90 for the privilege of having the part in stock.

I get back to my mates garage all happy showing him the bearings for him to respond with 'Thats great mate... but erm... look at this'

So the clliper bolts have corroded in the wheel hub. Now I'm going to have to source 2 new hubs... 🫤

Drivers side is much worse than the passenger side.

    Now where to look? Lol

Porsche Sheffield isn't a nightmare to get to from Leeds OPC if they had a pair in.

9Apart are worth a try also

Cheers mate... I think im going to stick with the ones at Strasse leeds as its only about 5 miles away or so and yes its a lot more expensive than OPC but cost of fuel and time seems like this will be the best option.

    Cheers everyone! :)

  8. Local OPC has only one in stock, Strasse Leeds has 2 in stock but they are £75+vat each! lol This going to be an expensive mistake i think.. will wipe out the good discounts i got on all the shocks etc. :D

Im going to ring a couple of the local specialists to see if they have any and if they are willing to sell a pair and for how much.

  9. Cheers mate.. its my fault as I didn't order the bearings which is all I need.

Top mounts are with the garage but the old bearings fell apart as they took the strut out.

Fingers crossed the opc will have them in stock and if not my mate will be p*ssed if the car stays stuck on the ramp. Lol

  10. Edited now... top mount bearing sourced, now I'm after front wheel hubs due to the threads being shot when the calliper bolts were taken out.

Scroll a few posts down for pics.

    ≈===============

Knew I'd forget something from my suspension parts list!

Garage just rang as said the old ones are shot and they are trying to see who stocks them.

Are the top mounts bearings standard size I presume? Will ring Leeds porsche in the morning but doubt they will have them in stock.

1st drive after hibernation and on the 3rd speed bump near my home front driver side coil spring has been fractured. So, can't do MOT now. Therefore, going full renewal front, damper, top mounts etc. 😒

Seems a weekly occurrence sadly with these boxsters!

Check the 986 section for autodoc thread. Might help you get parts on the cheaper side if your not in a rush for delivery.

    • Thanks 1
  12. I've recently just spent a shyate load with them and not had any issues with delivery or them sending the wrong parts etc.

Just keep the list of things you want in your app basket then check in after each offer countdown ends to get to the 41%. I got mine at 39% off and i was chuffed.

Spend the extra £3 quid or so for no cost returns for parts you don't want/need/bought by mistake.

    OPC,

Backing frames for a 987 are £35 ( or they were 12 months ago) so I can’t imagine much difference for face lift 986 backing frames

    I'll give them a ring tomorrow. 👍

Also you just reminded me I need to send you the tool back. Still sat in my glove box!

Left hand frame for -03 onwards looks to be 986 504 749 01 (right hand 986 504 750 01) although the parts cat only shows the exploded assembly for the earlier ones.  The 'frame' for -03 onwards is listed with no number on the drawing and does not exist before 03...

OPC will be cheapest for new, but it is worth dropping Douglas Valley/Steve Strange a message on eBay and asking for a facelift frame.

Excellent stuff! You're a star mate thank you.

    Porsche Air Inlet Frame Genuine Porsche 986 504 750 00 986.504.750.00 986-504-750-00 98650475000 | Pelican Parts

    frame - 98650475000 | Design 911

    Reassuringly expensive as expected! :)

I'll give the breakers a ring and see if they have got one.

I have a spare somewhere in the garage. Although I think those clips (the one in his left hand) break quite easily. I seem to remember having to super-glue the one I have in my car at the moment when I put it in. Three years on and it's holding up fine. Unless it's completely toasted you might get away with it. Those clips are flimsy because they don't need to be very strong and they get brittle with age.

You should also try Steve Strange (Douglas Valley Breakers). He's bound to have some lying about. Mine is Ocean Blue Metallic but I suppose you don't need the coloured part, just the clip?

Ive done a search on Douglas breakers site and they have the older vents with the different style sleeve that has the horizontal fins with it. The later ones like mine have the fins in the exterior vent piece as per the screen shot above.

Appreciate the info though and i will probably ring them but trying to get the part number first without having to take mine out again in case i break another tab and the bloody thing wont go back in at all next time! :D
