A new 987 front Textar pad is 17mm thick.

I would hazard a guess that the wear sensor is about 3mm into the pads.

As above, from my experience alone, the pads have got to be very low to brake the sensor insulation and its rare.

You'll have to hazard another guess.  I finally remembered to look up the picture from over 10 years ago, when I had to change pads due to the sensor activating.  Just over 1/2 worn or 2/3rds worn at best.

I will have a look in daylight tomorrow... at least with those wheels its easy to see through them!

When I stopped for petrol and restarted the light was not on so maybe just a false alarm...will see in the morrow. Hopefully worst case its a set of pads and 1 sensor!

If a sensor hasn't been plugged in properly then it could break contact and false alarm, but it would be unusual for this to then make contact again.

Had the low brake pad warning come up on the dash today.

Hard to tell from looking, but thinking its the fronts. Anyone had any experience of decent replacements?

Saw this on Design 911 for this kit which includes new sensors and pins etc

    https://www.design911shop.com/p/brake-pads--front--porsche-boxster-987---cayman----rear--997-s/

I always put genuine pads on mine.  On the last car I only replaced them just before I sold it - after 40k miles so IMHO cheap pads are a false economy.

In my experience, the pads only have to be 2/3rds worn to trigger the sensor.  I'll have to find the pad comparison picture.  It's in my work computer so that won't be until Monday.

Is this heavy scoring down to cheap discs and pads?

Or expensive?  Modern brakes wear the discs as much as the sintered pads.  If the discs aren't wearing, it could be that they are incompatible with the pad material, so your brakes are less efficient.

Risk is the previous owner can notify DVLA he has sold it into trade. Just worth checking👍

I need to make sure he doesn’t do that or the deal’s off ! 😳

Porsche can't see that detail anyway.  I had one where it had passed into the trade and the warranty was still valid.  My local OPC told me Porsche couldn't find out without a lot of digging and to just use the warranty for the claim I had, and it was fine.

Yes it will, however, you will need a bunch of bungees and a rubber mat to hold the removed wheel on the rear bonnet. There is an article about it somewhere here but unfortunately i could not find it.

Berty987 put the article up, IIRC.

    Regulator cable has stretched.

There are hacks available (cable ties, bicycle cable adjusters etc to take up the slack) but personally, I would replace the regulator with a new genuine part and avoid non-gen regulators like the plague.

I agree.  If it has stretched, it will break soon.

I just don't think he's reached that chapter in his car manual yet, there's so many options to go through. ;)

If I had a garage to keep it in I would.

I did not get the ST205 in the end for the same reason.

Maybe I should buy the Cosworth and park it in @Araf's vast garage that is being crafted :)

My kids would prefer to fill the proposed garage with other peoples' cars and bikes, as then they won't have the headache of sorting it all out, once I'm gone. :)

I'd look after anything in there as if it were my own.  If you're okay with me cannibalising your vehicles as I need something to get another one running (as that's what I'd do with mine) then I'll let you know when it's all finished. :)

I have hit a dead end and just can't find some matching carpet material.  I am looking to cover a printed centre console delete so it can't be too thick.  I have ordered samples from automotive carpet companies but their greys seem to use a blend of dark and light fibres to achieve the greys but none come close to matching.

Has anyone got any ideas or sources?

Get a lighter carpet and use a misting of black paint to get the colour right.

I have taken my eye off the ball a little here, maybe I should blow the budget and go see this, it's on my doorstep, if it's ligit. It's a stunning looking car. The sellers other items leave a lot to be desired though, might be something else going on behind closed doors 🤣

The badges on the headrests look shyte.  There was a bloke here once, who thought that look was good too.  Lloyd someone IIRC.

Also, the Clamshell doesn't close properly on the roof when down.  Could be a 5 minute free fix or it could be a whole lot more bother.

How can I ask if anyone lives near Kent, could go view a car for me and give me feedback, advert says its got a clock in the middle, garage don't seem to have much idea it's got sports chrono fitted 🤔

Kent's a big county.  It takes me the best part of an hour to get from one side to the other on fast roads.

Ping me a message with the car details if you like. :)

I’ve always taken as read that if you opt for comprehensive car insurance that’s what you get, so was horrified having just changed insurer I though I’d read thru the insurance documents sent after the policy was taken out to find that comprehensive only applies to the UK, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

    For Europe it states:

Different cover applies in different countries

You also have the minimum cover you need by law to drive in any country within the Green Card Free Circulation Area. This applies as long as your car is registered in the UK and is not abroad for more than

90 days, in any single policy year. However, should you require more than the 90 days you’ll need to

contact us. Any extension of cover will need to be agreed by us and you’ll be required to pay an additional premium. Just go to Your Account.

Please be aware that you will only have the minimum car insurance required by the countries in the Green Card Free Circulation Area which is usually equivalent to third-party only cover. So, you’ll be insured for damage to other people’s cars and property but not your own.

So any European trips the policy only offers third part insurance. There was simply no mention of this reduced cover in all the information prior to buying, and I’m wondering what others experience / knowledge  is. Is this 3rd party in Europe standard practice for all car policies?

I think that's always been the case, which is why I've always told my insurance company when I'm going and for how long, so they can upgrade the continental cover to fully comp. while I'm away.

So you'll be paying a premium due to your geriatric driving style and touch parking? 😏

Exactly!  I've just sorted out my father's Ford Fusion for another year.  £617 was the cheapest for an 89 year old doing 5000 miles SD&P per year. :o

In answer to the original question, if it's performance enhancing, "Yes"  When discussing stickers and wraps with brokers in the past, they've ignored them and anything else cosmetic I'm happy to take on the chin rather than claim for.

You missed Tow bar from your list.  Two of my cars have them and they have to be notified.

I’ve just realised I should have put this in the technical section so I’ve re started it over there, sorry guys!

I'll leave it all for now.  Next time you manage to put a thread in the wrong place, just send me a message of where you want it and I'll move it. :)

Some people think it's all I'm here for. ;)
