Fitted a Porsche short-shifter I picked up off ebay. It needs some minor adjustment still, but it's a HUGE improvement and I'm really pleased I did it. The change feels much more mechanical and precise.

How long did that take to fit?

Fitted a Aluminium effect fuel cap and changed both the front and rear compartment gas struts which is something I should have done ages ago, huge difference.

I was rather taken by that, didn’t realise it was an option, but having looked at the price it’s a bit of a luxury, is actually Ali or plastic?

Plastic IIRC. Which makes it quite a luxury!

Unfortunately it is plastic, nice touch but as others have said it is a bit of a luxury item and not a requirement.

I didn't time it but about 90 mins. Fitting the shifter is dead easy as it came already fitted into the shifter housing, so a straight swap.  The time is taken up with dismantling the interior and re-assembling. That's all straight forward but I'd not done it before on one of these.

Thanks, are there good and bad shifters? Why did you choose that one?

Having only had mine a short while, i have tried my best to get up to date with the maintenance.Sorting out a few mechanical issues, given it a real deep clean, had new wheels and tyres. So to get the alignment checked i know that im getting the best from the car.

I am doing bits every month when i get paid!!

I know that my car would have been getting towards a poor example if i didn't get to it on time.

I was looking to get a project so this car was perfect and the condition is getting really nice

I had this done a few months back at Centre Gravity, it was a real game changer. I also incorporated a suspension refresh and Eibach ARB's front and rear, fronts are set on the softer of the two settings and the rears on the harder setting which effectively removes grip from the back and makes it more fun to drive.

I was all set to buy the mechanism from a 987 boxster from ebay which is supposed to be a good improvement - have a search on here and google. It just happened that this genuine Porsche short-shifter cropped up on ebay at the right time.

I can't make any reccomendations other than that I'm afraid but there are loads of threads on this.

I have refreshed coffin arms, tuning folks on the rear and tuning folks on the front. Strut brace on the front and home made brace on the rear, alignment also. Combined with the Michelin PS2's all round this has really improved the handling. I can only imagine how good your car in now with the ARB's

Having fitted quite a few  - there is no need to remove the lower centre console - although a lot easier if you have the bucket seats.

Plenty of threads on the subject on here.  Including my feedback on almost every possible combination.  The short shifter is more direct and stiffer, the 987 feels more OEM yet shorter and more direct.

Did you find any improvement after fitting you strut brace, is this just on the front?

Tyres make a huge difference, I bet the PS2's transformed the car. Iv'e got PS4 all round on mine which I'm very please with.

The front brace tightens the front end and makes the car ride better over lumpy tarmac. For the cost I think it's worth while and I would buy it again.

I have also fitted a home made rear brace. See my thread

Best one is either OE shortshift or the 987. Either way it's better again with jimk04 bearings and bushes.

Don’t fancy helping me fit one do you.
