edc
What does the complete plastic white pin look like? My ashtray is temperamental and I'm wondering if I can effect a repair with sugru or similar.

It's a kind of a squared off horseshoe shape with a cylinder and pin. I've heard that it's possible to pack out the pin if it's worn but as mine was missing completely I decided to buy a working used one and swap it in. ½cwt
Finally got round to fitting the insulation material in the front (did the rear back in September IIRC) to help keep luggage compartment cooler when touring in hotter climates by not absorbing heat from the 3 rads and the a/c condensers. Might yet line the underside of the bonnet and boot lids too. Also my £21 food dehydrator (suggested by Jon at JMG to help dry out my key that went through the wash a few weeks ago but is still basically working thankfully) has finally arrived from an eBay seller. Hopefully after a couple of days in it at 65°C it'll stop flattening coin batteries in a day or so as I'm currently taking the battery out after each time I use the car which is a real pain. Mrs ½cwt might be able to dry some of the produce from our fruit trees next summer/autumn as well if the fancy takes her. Just hope we refrain from letting the key go through the wash again as if this doesn't work its off to the OPC for a new key...
naim22
Coil packs, plugs and tubes Surprisingly accessible given it's horizontally opposed I know on a GT86 the engine has to be raised for that job 😮

Even so, I'd imagine it would need to be under warranty and they would have to service it? It's probably only every 40k miles being a modern turbo engine, but Jap cars, historically have been totally self serviceable (except hybrid battery checks). I know it's a specialist drifter car, but that sounds a bit odd! Did you enjoy driving it?
Scubaregs
Yes, though tbh it was only driven hard a few times. Had MR2 roadsters for about 13 years before that. I have a Z1000SX that gets ridden hard, biked for almost 40 years now, so I do tend to just cruise in the car, no choice if Lynn is in passenger seat, she still shudders at the Borders run and I had to wave folk past and calm it down a bit as she was terrified. Bought a ZZR600 and ran the 2 of them for a year, she was enjoying it so both got sold for a VFR800. She decided last year not to go on the bike again, health reasons, so that let me go back to a more sports oriented bike. Honda were doing fantastic deals on the outgoing fireblade, but as soon as I sat on it my old back just laughed at me. Z1000SX is the perfect compromise, still a sports tourer and 140bhp compared to 100 on the VFR. Always been a Kawasaki man since my first ZZR600. My friend has a Hayabusa, which sadly hasn't been on the road for five years now. We moved it from storage a couple of years ago, spotted it had been sat in damp conditions and needs a decent amount of restoring unfortunately. Z1000SX sounds perfect to me, enjoy!

Has anyone worked out a clever method? I only heard of it because my colleague who has one had them done by timing it in with the valve spring recall as the engine had to come out anyway. Scubaregs
Sold it before it was required. IIRC was talk on the forums of the Subaru method, but not sure if anyone actually managed to DIY it. As I said, Toyota were subsidising it anyway hours/labour wise. Interestingly enough, Porsche fixed price servicing for the 718, 2 years/20,000 miles is almost the same cost as 2 services on the GT86 1 year/10,000 miles. kevs
Changed the ignition switch - £15 part from ECP. Followed the guide from Pedro’s Garage: http://pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/Replace_Ignition_Switch.html Incredibly fiddly to get under there (and I’m not exactly tall/big) and getting at the screws was a PITA. Managed it eventually!

S14
Hi, Cleaned car, and finished it with “bead maker”, which was easy to apply and the results seem pretty good. I also fitted Pure Highway 600 that my daughter and son in law got me for Xmas.
