I assume so. I just know I wouldn't keep on top of the cleaning as I reckon it could get manky unless you wear gloves and I don't want to look like Alan Partridge. Jason986S
I don't use my car much, but since I've cleaned it (alcantara wheel), it doesn't look any different or dirtier in 6 months or roughly 2k miles.

Exactly what i will be going for as soon as he sends me the invoice. As for the cleaning of the Alcantara, at £140 i can afford to run that wheel for a year and then just order another when it looks grubby.

I do like the thought of the Alcantara to the sides of the wheel, not too worried about it getting grubby to be honest - my mileage is probably only 3000 per year anyway! What colour wheel are you going for? I might try and tie this in with the simulator visit in March as that's over the right way for me - otherwise its a real trek over there. Will take some pics of my existing wheel and get the form filled in and over to them for quote etc in the next couple of days.

Should hide grubby prints then as well, getting it slightly thicker with more pronounced thumb grips.

I've gone for alcantara sides, printed leather top and bottom, slightly thicker with more pronounced thumb grips, black everything with the alcantara extended up the sides to the 11 & 1 o'clock positions rather than 10&2. Patt
be sure to post a pic when you get it. I'll be interested to see how it feels too and how much leg room you gain after our discussion at the wknd.

Won't be any legroom gained I know that much, i'm still trying to find my ideal seating position and have moved the seat forward for this week. That sounds like it will look good. My concern with introducing some alcantara on the wheel would be that suddenly the gearstick would require some, and then the handbrake, and the arm rest... And so the price creeps up. I like this one... But not sure what the total cost for the above would come to. Guessing more than I would be looking to spend. 997,987 (traingular airbag) - thicker, thumb grips built up, dark grey Alcantara 9002, grey 415 stithing - GT3 Style The standard 987 wheel feels very 'retro' to me. Large and spindley. Its nice in a way. But I much prefer the steering wheels I have had in my BMW's (E46 M Sport, E46 M3, E90 M Sport, F11 M Sport) which all feel smaller and chunkier. Just the wheel, just changed the knob for a 987 version and the handbrake is fine. This is more for the feel while driving than showing.

Mine looks similar and while it's nice enough it doesn't feel special enough. I'm also thinking about cutting down the gearlever by around an inch to make the throw shorter. rowbos
A bit of input please, just specifying my steering wheel and I need some thoughts. This is the current wheel, textured leather that has gone smooth at the top and sides, still has texture at the bottom. And its a little thin. I have a Stone Grey interior with extended leather. So I am going to go for dark grey alcantara sides, thicker with thumb grips built up, dark grey stitching. Leather top and bottom, the question is do I go for smooth, textured or perforated leather? The seats in the car are perforated so that might be good. The original wheel has a textured finish so that might be best. Thoughts? Thanks! PaulQ
I like the perforated leather myself How do people get on with the increased thickness ? The only reason I havn't done mine is it makes an already oversized wheel even bigger.
andygo
Let me know how you get on, IMHO it makes the interior much more up to date. i like the carbon fibre bit I did on the wheel as the car has the factory fit carbon fibre pack on the dash, handbrake On 08/06/2016 at 11:11 AM, RickLS7 said: Absolutely. My local specialist is very friendly and happy to look and advise without obligation. On 10/10/2016 at 9:27 AM, Nobbie said: Would this option actually detract from the value of the car? It sounds exotic and expensive to maintain given that discs are a regular maintenance item on these cars. It also hints that the car may have been driven quite hard. I'd imagine that the number of buyers actually searching this option out would be quite low, and like well maintained high mileage cars, this puts the buyer in a strong position not to pay a premium. I haven't looked into this in detail, but it's my impression that 987 parts prices are substantially more expensive than 986 parts, so in terms of the overall ownership cost, keeping an early 987 on the road is likely to be a fair bit more costly than a 986. Logically, that should mean quite a large overlap between later 986s and early 987s and would expect that overlap to increase over time. Mind you, having just written the word "logically" with regard to buying a sports car, I realise how redundant that observation was anyway and the silver blanks on the steering wheel looked a bit 1990's. andygo
I'd say the wheel looks smaller in real time as most of the increased size seems to be on the inside radius. Just been to France for the weekend, very pleased with my decision. One thought I had regarding alacantra/leather mixes.. When turning, your hands are going to be going from grippy, to not so grippy and back to grippy texture. Might take a little getting used to and also the Alalcantra will wear at a different rate?
