Paulo123
Hi all new member here, with a 981 with 25k on the clock. Purchased last year with 18k on the clock so I'm racking up a bit of mileage in 8 months even though it's a 3rd car. Has as anyone got tips for the 4th year service, I believe it falls under their fixed price servicing, which is 620 quid however I believe this doesn't include spark plugs which are recommended, and doesn't include brake fluid, so I'm guessing we're in for a grand after that lot. Then new disks and pads etc so the question is do you guys go Indy for plugs, fluids and brakes and just get the stamp from the OPC for a service ?? Or do you haggle and get work done at the OPC ? Ive got a Porsche club 10 percent card that helps but tonight I've worked out some numbers porsche - service - £620 porsche - plugs - £200 porsche - fluid change - £100 porsche front brakes and pads - £1100 porsche rears - £800 air con regass - £100 total - £2920 minus ten percent - £2600 ish vs porsche service - £620 indy plugs - £100 indy fluid - £50 indy front brakes - £600 indy rears - £300 Indy air con gas - £30 total - £1700 seems a huge saving for an extra day without the car while it's at an Indy curious as to what you chaps do ?? Leonard
I think I'd go opc for service and plugs. Indie for brakes and fluid
CMA
Mines in at the moment for the 4 year itch, will post the final cost tomorrow when I get it back. I was going to do the plugs and fluid myself but having just moved house the garage is not unpacked yet and the extra day I would have taken off to get the plugs and fluid done by an indy made it more practical to get the OPC to do them at the same time as the service. And I get a nice Cayenne to play in for a day and a half.
RBD914 v2
I guess it depends on if you have the Porsche warranty still running, or are planning to renew, as to whether you use an OPC for the 4 year service. Mine car is due it's 4 year service next year, the same month as the warranty expires. However as I only do about 4000 miles per year, I'm not sure that I will renew the warranty. If I don't renew the warranty, then the car will be serviced by an independent.
mneil
Wouldn't touch OPC with a barge pole, always used Revolution; an Indy in brighouse/Leeds.

Jason986S
Porsche (OPC) prices are extensional IMO. I would get the minimal to get the stamp if necessary (for warranty) then DIY or Indie it. (I would DIY) could be done for £200.
mrbikerdood
Also,Dovehouse are happy for me to buy the parts and they fit them as often I've bought my parts through my m8s garage reducing the cost even more
Greenman
OP - do you know the OPC will give you the 10% off, I know mine (Wilmslow) said they would only do on parts. In many ways it may be dependent on if you have an ongoing Warranty. If not that just getting the OPC service stamp may be the max you would consider, with the rest being done at independent. In fact if no warranty then all items can comfortably be done at Indi. Do people buying a 6 or 8 year old car really expect no Indi servicing? I think 90% of people will look at correct servicing being done at the correct times whether OPC or Indi. ( for cars < 4 years this is a bit different and most expect OPC servicing)
martyn
Hi, my 981 is due a 4 year major service in Oct/Nov this year, its still under an OPC warranty so its going to have to go to the OPC for service. However, do you need new discs/pads after only 25k miles? mine are hardly worn @ 21K so definitely not expecting that expense... I have a PGB club card which gives a 10% disc (hopefully), but I will still shop around the OPCs for email quotes for I). The full service ii). Spark plug change iii). Brake fluid change. Then present findings to my local OPC to match or better!! If not its a good excuse to have a long run to the cheapest OPC. If I and when I need brakes, I will go to an independent. I can imagine the exacting 111 point check will be even more exacting if you have been to an Indie for last couple of services..
Paulo123
Thanks for all the help gents ive fired off a few emails to local dealers asking for prices and Porsche club discount to see what my local 3 come up with, on brakes I'll definitely need pads, not sure on disks tho im thinking, get the brakes done using OEM parts at an Indy before the service and get the Indy to do the brake fluid change and then get an OPC to service and do the plugs. The cars still got a year and a bit warranty left so definitely need the stamp.

Will do mate first in is £615 ……plugs at 280 and fluid for 90. Brakes I'm doing at an Indy so didn't ask…… Courtesy car a BMW 5 series - pass discount for porsche club was ten percent of parts which was about the same as a pint of wife beater and a packet of dry roasted nuts. Edited to remove the OPC just in case they are the cheapest hahahaha
Paulo123
Courtesy car was OPC by the way not Indy ? You would think they would give 718s out so you want to change ?? I've got a 530d sat at home so won't be needing that.
mdunderwood
I checked with my opc and they confirmed that I could use an indie and not affect the warrantee as long as they used mobile oils and Porsche parts. So I got my major service done at the indie. in my opinion I don't think it matters if the stamp in the service book is OPC or a reputable indie Porsche specialist. Paulo123
Just looking at starks post where the OPC quoted 400 for plugs and 220 for a belt change as well. Crazy prices
