Yep, page 15 additional maintenance 60k miles or 6 years. 12 years or 120k does seem a long time. My point was 6 years and 21k , I don't think I would have bothered, but I had the extended warranty.

Could it be they are now using different oils? I agree with you that to go from 6 to 12 years in one jump seems strange , and also less potential income, I would have thought it would have been kept at 6 yrs!

is it about a £350 procedure or thereabouts?

I had mine done at CPS and cost was quite reasonable - maybe half that - I would have to check my invoice.

Not sure what an OPC would charge.  It all needs to be done under PIWIS control to open and close the valves etc.  Not a long procedure but temperature of the gearbox is critical which is potentially time consuming if the car has been driven.

Mine was £380 for the PDK and £125 to replace the belt, both done at Porsche fixed price servicing. If the car was not under warranty I would have got a local indy to do the minor service and not bothered with the PDK oil and belt change and saved myself about £700.

Thanks gents for the price update, good, not too costly, I’m sure I had read in a Porsche mag that it was circa £800?....  it’s my age!

methinks I’ll wait until 6 yr service and see what they say.

Hi

Can I ask which OPC quotes £1068 mentioned in the original post?

I am just in the process of booking my 4 year service and have been quoted just over £1200 by my local OPC. So if I can find a cheaper OPC to beat their price down with then that would be ...well £200 in my pocket..

cheers

Thanks.

So I have spoken to a number of OPCs today and all have quoted for the drive belt check at additional cost.

However when you look on the Porsche website at the details of what is included in the fixed price service, checking the Polyrib drive belt is supposedly included!! I have mentioned this to one dealer who is going to contact Porsche to get clarification.

This is exactly the reason I went to an Indie for my 4 year service as the OPC quoted an amount and then offered it as an extra!

The inability to make it clear for the customer is shockingly bad customer service...and instills no confidence, making us all think they are on the make!

(just been writing a response to Porsche about my so far failed warranty claim for a new roof so please forgive my soap box moment there!)

Bastids!

So more interesting developments on the service front. I went back to my local OPC this morning, pointed out the whole drive belt thing and they confirmed it was included in the fixed price service and removed the additional cost from the quote.

I also informed them I had a cheaper quote and they beat it with a flat £1000 including everything except the MOT. Finally I asked them if I could have a 718 as a courtesy car instead of a Macan and they promised to see what they could do. So pretty happy with that..

Especially as I phoned my local Porsche specialist, who are well regarded and ask them to quote on the same service and that came in at £810 plus the cost of the MOT and no courtesy vehicle. I was surprised as I thought the spread between OPC and indie would be bigger but for <£200 I will stick with OPC!

When I emailed several OPC’s for the year 4 major service quotations, I found they all quoted as an extra cost the Polyrib drive belt check.

All, with no exceptions, when I highlighted to them the service schedule listed showed the belt check as part of the major service, offered to waive the cost......but what I am getting at is they said they would contact Porsche to clarify the situation and this was back in November 2017.

So obviously either they never bothered contacting Porsche or they see it as a little money earner hoping that most people would not know and pay the extra cost.?

Good result, but yet again very disappointing that OPCs seems to be consistently trying to charge extra for belt checking that is clearly documented as part of the major service.

what annoys me is the way they just are too stupid to care that they are 'mis-quoting' and not correct it....the OPC lost the service from me because of simply the inability to quote accurately and informatively

I think that was a (another) negligent mis-quote...

I had the same for my 4 years service, had to point it out to them and they removed it saying they would contact porsche too.... I think its the same money spinner as you... they're just hoping the owner doesn't notice.....

I've used the OPC for 2 services and 2 MOTs so far, MOT is only £40 and I get to request the loan car I get (within reason) and its so handy on my commute to work for drop off and pick up

Thanks for the heads up, all useful research for me when I go into battle in the next few weeks ??

Quick!! Book your car in for the service if it is due soon.

Heard back from one of the OPCs I had been talking to and had raised the question about the drive belt check with. They said they would check with Porsche GB and come back to me, which they have now done.

Apparently Porsche have said it is a mistake on their documentation and that the drive belt check is NOT included as part of the fixed price service and that they will be changing the website to reflect this!!

It is a bit bright and defo draws attention .... I’m just not sure about it!

IMHO a Lovely colour, Miami blue, last time we were in an OPC the colour drew the missus straight over to it, pity we couldnt afford it!

Drove it for a few hours today and couldn’t get on with it. It’s a bit too in your face and draws a lot of attention.

It is defo faster than the 981 but the sound doesn’t match the speed and the exhaust note is just too forced.

With the exception of the newer ICE system I prefer the 981 interior the Chrono clock is set back in the 781 close to the windscreen and just looks odd.
