Extended Warranty

Our 981 extended warranty runs out on 1st June. OPC costs for servicing warranty and 111 point check are extortionate so think we will take our chances. Just have to cross fingers and hope that a good independent specialist and our TLC prevents any horror stories. Any other 981 owners taking this route or have experiences  to share.

go half way house and get an independent warranty?

I've also priced it up recently and its looking at £220 for the 111 check and £1200 for 2 year warranty if I remember correctly?

Just renewed ours last week, £600 per year is steep but what do you get on a Porsche that costs less than £600.

Peace of mind when we are touring all over the place.

Yes same price I have been quoted. Cars have been reliable so far so may just go down the specialist route

Yes expensive and being tied to the OPC makes logistics a pain owing 45 mile round trip in 2 cars

Isn’t it a benefit of getting a good courtesy car for one of the trips though?

Mine expires end of May, just had the figures at the weekend for warranty, 111 point check plus the recovery for another 2 years. Need to discuss with myself as we have another European trip to fit in next year

You know you dont HAVE to use porsche for servicing. As long as they pass the 111 check and have had porsche parts used, you can use any garage for servicing.

In theory...but I wouldn't want to be the one who tests the theory when my engine blew or PDK failed!

I don’t think the Porsche warranty is outrageously expensive given the coverage and type of car etc,  but it does then tie you somewhat to the OPC network and not doing any mods or fitting none Porsche parts etc.  Also if it aligns with a service visit (which is likely) then it can be pretty expensive.

i recently extended my Warranty for 2 years including recovery etc, and it aligned with. Major 4 year service So: Major Service, Brake Fluid, Spark Plugs; polybelt check; Air Filters; Tyre Sealant; 111 point check. £2700!!

I managed to squeak in at £2355 for our 4 year plus mot including the polybelt change as it was showing signs of fraying,  we left recovery off as we have a multi car breakdown cover. Porsche Teesside were very competitive but it still made my eyes water ;)

Breakdown for 2 years is £265 so that pretty much accounts for the difference, also did you get Engine Air filters done as they are not standard for 4 year service.

Same as. It’s expensive but gives piece of mind. Must say owing to OPC travel times I’m tempted to risk it and let warranty expire. I wonder if there are any good alternative warranty companies

Reading OPC never have one available so means running 2 cars there twice

I’ve found you just have to book well in advance.  Ring them and tell them you want to book a service and need a Courtesy car and ask them when they can fit you in. For Sheffield OPC is usually about a 3 week wait, but I normally ring a couple of months before due and get it booked in so there’s no excuse for no car.

I have never had a car from Reading either. I tend to book things 2 months in advance as well.  I think I may try another OPC next time.

No filters this time, I also told them to keep the tyre muck.

My Macan is in for a service & warranty renewal in a couple of weeks, must also remember to top up the washer fluid and ask them NOT to put yet another bottle in the ever growing collection and charge me for the privilege 😂

Funny but as a BMW M car owner I find £600/year for the Porsche warranty cheap. I paid £860/year on a 535d 11 years ago for the BMW warranty. I recently sold my E60 M5 and the warranty renewal cost the new owner £2K for 1 year. Though it must be said the M5 was past the 60K mile watershed.

Porsche service costs, on the other hand, make BMW service costs look cheap.

After hearing @tony_zx9r s problems recently I am likely to renew my warranty, I must say he frightened me with his experience although thankfully the potential remedy, and cost, didn't happen .

I havent had a porsche warranty on my car (981 S) for 2 and half years and my thoughts were the gamble is worth it i.e. bank the money and see what happens. I did make sure the oil was changed yearly as a bit of peace of mind.

Part of my thinking is that I see some thoughts on the price of warranty vs repair is mostly used as OPC cost X and therefore worth it. But if not in warranty I wouldnt  take it to an OPC when an Indy would repair to the same standard at a lot less cost.

All down to risk and car value, only you can decide.

Heading to Vegas next month courtesy of not having a warranty :)

You pay your money and take your choice.

Our Boxster is now 6 years old.  Have had extended warranty on it and every time it has been a battle to have anything fixed.  Top mount failed at 12,000 miles and they tried arguing wear and tear.  Alarm kept going off and they said it was nothing but replaced the siren.  Left front speaker blew and they said maybe the volume was too loud.  Just a nightmare.  It has 40,000voj now and it has a knocking from the front.  Asked the, to look at it when it went for service and they said they can hear it but can’t find it even after spending 3 hours on it.  Currently arguing about who foots the £400+ investigative bill.
