Bit off topic, but I stayed in a little hamlet just opposite Skye last year for a week called Glenelg. About half a mile away is the Original Skye Ferry which is the last of the old Turntable ferries that used to be doted all over the Western Isles. It runs from Easter to October continually and is £15 one way or £35 return (or £40 for a 6 journey book of tickets). It's a lovely throwback to the old days, never had to queue or wait (apart from waiting for it to come back from the other side) and the drive either side is stunning. The crew are good craic too! Well worth the detour for anyone round that way heading to/from Skye. Oh, and the Glenelg Inn does a great pint with the best views up and down the Kyle of Loch Alsh.

That sounds like my kind of ferry.  Hope it's not big enough for coaches?

Boxster Update

I have bought a fully rebuilt 2.5 warranted engine from a Porsche specialist.  The engine is being shipped this week and will be fitted by D&G.  I am expecting the car back next week.  It's going to be expensive but life is too short friends and I am already looking forward to a pint in the Glenelg Inn and the view down the Kyle of Lochalsh!

Incidentally, one of the things I am most looking forward to when I get the Boxster back, is the narrow rim on the steering wheel.  Every time I grip the Volvo wheel, its like holding a life belt!

Things are looking up friends!

Great news Spug! Another one saved! You'll not regret it.

If you do go to Glenelg, you have to drive the extra few miles (stunning) to Corran and visit Sheena's Tea Hut. Proper fish and chips in a crofters shed in the absolute middle of nowhere. A pretty special experience.

Great news Spug I managed to track down my cars history and according to the invoices from the first owner my cars engin destroyed itself at 70k and had a identical one with 40k on the clock fitted and I've now done 142k so you made the right decision I think.

I just returned from a trip to Scotland and you must try the road from Lock Ness to Skye bridge the road is just a great drive and the bends are fantastic on the views are wonderful too I've got some dash cam footage I must post on when I start a post about my ride it's been three years since I joined so I should. Hope you have many happy miles driving.

Quick update friends.

Rebuilt engine has been fitted but existing exhaust manifolds are a bit ropey so I have bought SS ones. These are coming on Monday so a slight delay to getting the car back.

Still hoping to be driving her on Wednesday.

Drive safely

Are the manifolds the eBay SS sports manifolds? If so, make sure the garage tie back or protect the power steering pipe as the eBay manifolds are much wider than the original and can cause the pipe to fail. Ask me how I know🙄

Thats a great tip Nobbie.  I bought the manifolds on the recommendation of D&G Porsche who have fitted them before so I am assuming they know what they are doing.  Car has been off the road since 7th August and I cannot wait to get it back!

Spug, your posts are already positive.  Most people would have scrapped the car.

Good luck - and now go drive it and get your money's worth :)

Ok friends... Almost a year to the day, I attempted the NC500 again.  This time the car was faultless and indeed, I have done 1144 miles in five days using £145 worth of fuel.  She is running beautifully and my confidence is restored.  Have passed many Porsches and it is apprent that for some owners, waving is 'just not the correct form'.  Back home now and shes in the garage waiting for a buckets of soapy water.  Be safe everyone... Great to hear you’re back enjoying your car👍, it’s nice to get a few miles on it to regain confidence. Sometimes the value of a car exceeds it’s cost.

Thanks friends.  Stiffkey - I didnt get the car back until late September last year and I sorned it at the end of the month for the winter.  The C-19 situation has meant there were few opportunities to drive it (Lockdown in Scotland went on for longer)  The NC500 trip was the first real chance to test the engine out.

The only real issue is a passing HGV through up a stone which struck the windsreen leaving a small chip bnehind the rear view mirror.  I thought I was lucky to get away with this until I got home to find that it struck the centre of the bonnet first and has left a small dent and a scratch about 40mm long.  I wouldnt normally be precious about such a thing but the car is generally flawless and I will probably look at getting this repaired.

The weather has been exceptional and most of the miles have been with the top down.

The pic was taken at Foyes on the south side of Loch Ness.

We drove home via Loch Lomond and although the road adjacent to the loch is lovely, the motorway from Glasgow to Edinburgh and then the A1 back to Berwick was really busy, and after the Highlands, not particularly enjoyable.

Stay safe everyone...
