Perfect 981, perfect service history-no invoices or paperwork…!

Bit of an odd one for the collective wisdom out there to comment on.

narrowed down my search for a good 981 , after looking at a few.

Agreed to purchase from a dealer, a 2014 981 2.7 PDK, 44,000 miles. Car is showroom condition inside and out. Always been garaged. Paint virtually flawless. Great tyres. Etc. etc.

service book has all the stamps up to date from Leeds Porsche Centre.

2 owners from new.

Porsche extended warranty valid until July 2015.

But; not one invoice or bit of paperwork showing what’s been done to the car over the years-nothing. Not even a random invoice by mistake. Ran a check and it comes up clean.

never seen a car without any paperwork or receipts in my lifetime-feels odd. 😳

anyone experienced this?

As it’s only ever been to one garage and it was a Porsche centre, it shouldn’t be a major problem getting all the paperwork should it? 🤔🤔🤔

I might give them a call and scope them out.

Yes GDPR - most main dealers will shred all previous invoices. Crazy really - should be a process to redact the previous owners details but share all maintenance work for your peace of mind. Having said that, the Porsche service history and warranty should mean you have nothing to worry about.

I recently bought a lovely 981 Boxster through a private sale and the only paperwork/receipts the seller had was for a service he had got done before putting the car up for sale. The service book had been stamped with the first two services done at Porsche and the next 3 services done at 3 different independents. I got in touch with  Porsche first and they were quite happy to send me copies of the invoices for the services that they had carried out on the car all be it the previous owner’s name and address were blanked out. I did the same thing with the 3 independent garages and they were also quite happy to send me the invoices for the work they had carried out on the car but again they had blanked out the names and addresses of the previous owners. I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t do the same thing and get the missing paperwork just reach out to the Porsche Centre that has serviced the car.

Spot on. I personally feel reassured about the provenance. My only concern is when I come to sell it in 2 years time-which my wife reminds me is a long time for me to own any car - anyone buying it privately may be confused and reluctant when they didn't have the usual sheaf of reassuring paper to show how good the car is.

Nice one-that's really good to hear and common sense has prevailed there. I am going to make it a condition of purchase from the dealer selling the car , that either I am able to get the servicing paperwork from Porsche Leeds, or they need to get it from them. I personally wouldn't buy a car privately without it, so just thinking ahead.

I would want a better warranty than one that expires in 2015😉

Could be that the previous owners destroyed the invoices before the better half discovers how much the OPC work has been costing?

The services on both my Porsches are only a few hundred pounds, love....honestly cheap as chips to run😂😂

Really? Am I missing a trick here do you think? The car is priced fair and its absolutely mint. He's doing the alloy wheels from platinum to satin black for me to match the colour of the bodywork better. So that's saved me £400. 🤔

2015 was 9 years ago ;)

It seems common practice in the motor trade these days to throw away the random receipts associated with the car. I think it is probably to protect the previous owners privacy but I wouldn’t let it concern you.

As long as you have the service record and you keep your receipts you will be fine when you come to sell the car. I have had 4 Boxsters and the last two came with very little paperwork but have been fully maintained and reliable. My second car came with a wad of receipts for all the work that had been carried out and although it made interesting reading (once) it did make me feel more comfortable buying a car at that mileage backed up with the extensive maintenance.

None of my cars came with any decent warranty, two had none and two had the standard 3 month trade warranty that doesn’t cover you for most the problem issues with Boxsters. Fortunately I haven’t had any nasty surprises yet🤞I’ve had the standard age related issues but nothing heartbreaking which I think is a testament to how good these cars are 👍

I purchased my 2015:981 two years ago from a Dove House who have a good reputation here. Stamped up service book all 0PC bar one. No invoices or any other paperwork. Just the basic 3 month warranty. Had a PADM fail two months ago but that is not uncommon. Car is just lovely. Good luck 👍

Ask the OPC Service Manager nicely and they'll confirm the cars history, it's all on Porsche database.

Doubt they'll give you copies of any invoices, as others have said, GDPR.

As said, its pretty common. I got my 987.2 from Auction and it has all the books, fully stamped service book from Porsche dealerships and specialists and no supporting paperwork.

I contacted the one that did the 60k service with a question and they were happy to confirm the PDK clutch fluid was changed.

I would not worry about that at all

Jeez louise. 2025 is what I meant. I miss the good old days....................

Just a thought if you are paying a premium for the 2025 Porsche extended warranty.

Check to see if the vehicle has been deregistered from the 2nd owner and taken into trade. It's my understanding (okay to be corrected) but the Porsche extended warranty can only be transferred if buying privately. If buying from the trade the warranty cannot be transferred.

Good point Jurassic 👍

it is my understanding that they are selling it on behalf of the customer (brokerage) and haven’t taken it in ,but I will double check with them.

It’s quite common for dealers to sell cars still with the extended OPC warranty, they don’t register the car in their name so the previous owners details are still on the reg document and it doesn’t gain another owner. In that case the warranty is still valid. In my experience of modern Porsche  ownership I wouldn’t run one without the OPC warranty.

Risk is the previous owner can notify DVLA he has sold it into trade. Just worth checking👍

It’s my 2nd favourite colour- white -with black leather interior so a good combo.

was going to buy a sapphire blue car but the service history stopped at 2021 😂😂

No but RPM do have a couple of nice ones- but I cannot get past the terracotta red soft tops- they just do not work for me at all. 👎

In the ‘olden days’ of yesteryear those lovely shiny white cars with red soft tops would have possibly been described as a girls car.

i wouldn’t dare say that, but I can just imagine the comments I would get stopped at the lights - given my age and the level of folical challenge I am now facing😂😂

that will happen anyway now I think of it as the soft top colour isn’t too obvious when in roof down mode…..

I need to make sure he doesn’t do that or the deal’s off ! 😳

Porsche can't see that detail anyway.  I had one where it had passed into the trade and the warranty was still valid.  My local OPC told me Porsche couldn't find out without a lot of digging and to just use the warranty for the claim I had, and it was fine.
