  1. Bit of an update... I didnt use the car for a couple of days and as usual we had torrential rain. Went to get in the car and drivers window was steamed up. Checked behind the seat and it was soaking wet. I had checked the drain holes last week and opened the clamshell and realised that I had checked the rear ones near the rear spoiler but had got side tracked and not checked the ones with the filters in and sure enough it was blocked on the drivers side. Cleaned the filters out on ran the trombone cleaner through it and tested it and all clear now.

Fortunately the carpet under the back of the drivers seat can be lifted where it meets the bulkhead making it easier to get all the water out the sound deadening. Used a combination of a vacuum cleaner and hair dryer and now the carpet and sound deadening pretty much 100% dry.

Went to drive the car and no sound from the stereo. :(

Checked the Amp under the drivers seat and it was dry and did not look like the water ingress had got that far as there was a leaf next to the stereo and that was dry.

Did a bit of reasearch and it looked like there was no output from the amp. Was is coincidence? Who knows. Did some more research and if you can find any of these amps for sale they are silly money. So options were switch out to aftermarket head unit but with the Bose and Amp system it would be expensive to replace, find a functioning amp or send my faulty one off to be fixed.

I also noticed the centre line on the display under the rev counter did not show the radio station either. The PCM 3.0 was still showing everything correctly though. With a bit of assistance from @Richard Hamilton I was hopeful it was all down to the amp.

There are various companies that advertise being able to repair these amps and I would imagine water damage as a cause would keep them busy due to the Amp location.

I did various searches on ebay using various key words and stumbled upon a full set of bose speakers, sub deck and amp from a 3.4 PDK 2009 Boxster S at a Breakers in Poole. Advertised at Buy it Now for £348 inc delivery. I checked the pics and double checked to make sure it was from a 987.2 and very quickly clicked BIN

Huge box turned up today, honestly it could not have been packed any better.
Set to getting the old amp out, under the drivers seat it is not the most accessable to get the securing bolts out. When I took it out, it was clear it has not had water contact at all so maybe it is coincidence it went at the same time. Swopped it over with the replacement one, put the key in and success, we have sound from the speakers and everything back to normal... very relieved!

So I want to send the faulty amp to one of these companies to get it repaired so I can sell it on as they seem to sell for big money (and I want to sell the full set of Bose speakers and sub deck that I do not need if anyone wants them!)

Anyone had any expeience with any of the companies that repair Amps?
I have had a conversation with a couple of them and Cartronics in Surrey do a service where you can send the unit to them and they will check whats wrong with it and then give you a quote to fix it. If you do not accept the quote, they charge you £79 for the engineers time and return shipping.

Thanks to Richard for his assistance :)

  2. Got registred on "My Porsche"

The front grills are "Exterior Package Alu look opaque" and the mirrors are "Wing Mirror Alu look opaque"

Looks like it has had the wheels changed at some point as it came with "19 inch Turbo Wheels - Forged 2 tone"

If they are the ones I think, I prefer the ones that are on it!

Yeah reckon I could ask maybe as high as £15,500 ;)

  3. Busy morning today as it was actually vaguely sunny but windy.
First I cleaned the roof and reproofed it (Protex kit left over from the Alfa!) The kit comes with as decent scrubbing brush which helps and both the cleaner and the reproofer are brush on which means no overspray like the trigger bottle versions.

After that I gave the body a wash followed by a going over with Poorboys blackhole and then a coating of Nattys Wax.

Checked the tyre pressures... lowest was 18psi ad best was 22 so no doubt it will drive even better now I have adjusted them

I gave the side of the seats their 2nd treatment with the leather dye and it has come up really well, you cannot tell where the colour was missing before. The pot of dye was only about £4 on ebay.

Just as I finished and took a few pictures it started to rain of course!

Exhaust tips dont come up too well, might change them in the future.

I have ordered some black side indicators, still not sure I will like the look or not but its only a couple of mins to change them.

Its going in for an oil and filter change / check over tomorrow.

Reckon I could just about get my money back on it now ;)

That's as good as scrap. Seized valves advertised as open all the time.

I don't agree. Seized valves can be freed off and if you want a system that you are wanting the valves open all the time that is a really cost effective OEM option

  5. Other thing is PSE is switchable, there are times that you want it turned off. When I come home late at night or motorway driving etc its nice to be able to turn it down.

PSE has to be my fav option and I have been lucky enough to have it on 2 of my Boxsters :D

Blackhole glaze and nattys wax are my go to for black cars - so easy to apply

I've not tried a clay bar yet, i know i should, but worried i'll just end up scratching the paint more by dragging debris across the panel

Yeah I bought it when I had the Spider and it came up really well. One of the plus sides of having another black car is I can use left over products

  7. So when I got the car, both seats had colour missing on the sides of the seats. Not sure if it was from wear as the leather itself was not worn at all. I ordered some black seat leather dye which turned up today. I have only done 1 of the 2 coats required so far and its looking brilliant.

  8. I am not going to comment further on the forum on the subject, I know where the issue lies on this one.

Anyway, thread back on track. Today I have dyed the scuffed seat edge, fitted the aforementioned wheel centre caps, restuck the rear number plate on and had to drive to work to pick up a parcel.

I use the Auto Glym kit and it comes with the detailing spray which is your lubricant.
you will be amazed by how smooth the paint is afterwards

  10. So today I went over the car with a clay bar. Always amazes me how smooth the paintwork is afterwards. No pictures as I CBA to take any. I have ordered one of those tiny paint applicators from another thread for the few stonechips. After I have done that it will be getting a good coat of Poorboys Black hole and nattys wax... if it stops raining on my week off long enough.

Took the car out in the dark for the first time, those Bi Xenon cornering headlights are wicked! So bright, way better than my old 987 headlights.

I might have also tried it in Sports Plus and Manual mode... wow, that is a fast gear change! PDK is impressive.

I have not tried launch control though 😆

Also it appears to have effected Caymans more.

If you look, all models and variants can suffer with this.

I definitely know mine doesn’t, as the inside of the tail pipes have rusted up, due to lack of use during my recent projects, no oil coating them !!!!!!

it effects Caymans more as there were way more Caymans with that engine as it was fitted from launch.

It seems to be pretty rare but it is a factor

"What Didn't I do to my 987 today?" - Fit my new centre caps as despite ordering them a week ago, still not here yet. 😡

Think next time I will just go to Ali Express.

All well and good blaming Royal Mail for being slow but the Oil Filter I ordered Sunday night got delivered today.... by Royal Mail.

The Bovee bluetooth adapter thing is probably the way to for you - phone stays in your pocket - car sees an iPod - phone call is through the car hands free, music through the "bovee".

Edit: So the basic Bovee 1000 are all the same, its the connector cable thats car specific? As I have the cable, I just need the unit right?

  15. Just looked on ebay, yeah I think this one did not have any writing on the back (cba to go downstairs to check right now!)

I am still not convinced its for me as I have to take my phone out the case for the adaptor to fit and my phone doesnt fit in the centre arm rest either.

    Meh!

  16. Ahh yeah it could be a copy, Apple don't like that do they. When I plug it in the phone charges so it recognises something is happening, but when I click iPod on the PCM it says no ID connected.
