Get some nitrile disposable gloves man.

Ohhh I do like a silverised wheel.

As alluded to above I might have a similar pic, mine were dusted with silver before they were lacquered to give them some sparkle.

I coated mine with Meguiars and still looked like new (back and front) over 10 years later but our car wasn't a daily.

Fingers crossed mine last as long 🙂

Like you I used it off the back of positive reviews. I persevered with it on a couple of different sets of alloys however I found that I needed to keep reapplying it to each set of wheels and even then brake dust and muck just sat on the wheels once I had used a pressure washer to give them a rinse. By contrast Gyeon is in another league.

👍 Not had to clean them in anger yet. Will see what happens then 🙂

Look great, but would use something like C5 wheel amour to protect them.  Your wasting your time with poorboys wheel sealant.

So what's the problem with Poorboys? I read through loads of reviews for several brands and it came out quite well? 🙂

I am afraid I don't rate Poorboys either. I have used Gyeon of late and it's excellent.

Don't say that, took me yonks applying 3 coats of Poorboys. Finger and thumb are cracked up now with those chemicals on them for that length of time 😂. Will see how it goes with the Poorboys. Not used a wheel sealant before

Awesome colour mate, excellent stuff :thumbsup_anim:

I'm not a fan of black wheels, they always look a bit "lost" to me, but that dark chrome finish is much better.

    👍My thoughts exactly

what colour car do yuou have? I have the same wheels that need some attention and was thinking of somthing like this

Carrara white, got them back on the car today. The colour is VW Blue Chrome, which is spray applied before a powder clear finish

This pic is the wheel on the "non sun" side

  8. Got my wheels back from being refurbed. Wanted something that was going to bring the wheels out a bit more. They're now a dark chrome and as you can see they look a lot different depending on what light  is on them. Last pic was the original black. Having polished them then given them 3 coats of POORBOYS Wheel Sealant I've just got to get them on the car. Have to wait till tomorrow now but should look nice in the sun.

Nope.  Usually. Days count down as you would expect and miles countdown based on number of cold starts and distance travelled.

    something not right there.

Hi Paul. Yeh I'm getting the "countdown" (which looks like it started from when the service was actually due which was 03/22) but didn't get any actual service due alert? Too cold out there and got the cover on so can't be bothered to get in the car and have another look. Will have to make the effort this weekend though as the wheels are off to be refurbed 🙂

  10. Well my service (major) was due this month (March) and I was expecting a warning light of some sort but nothing?

    Should I have got one?

I was waiting to get my trackday on 21/3 out of the way ( did do an interim oil change last summer and only covered a couple of thousand miles since so wasn't worried about over-running the service interval by a month or 2).

On the way home from the trackday my oil level warning light came on, I wasn't overly concerned and I've topped it up accordingly.

In drilling down on the dash menu I came across the service section and it was advising next service due in 600+ days or <20k (can't remember the exact figures) so it would seem as if the car had been serviced and the indicator reset, of which neither had been done.

    Is this normal?

    Cheers...Gramps

Cadwell is a brilliant track, one of my favourites.

Width isn’t too bad, I find it fine for a track day. Here’s a clip from last year’s TVR Car Club track day. I know, I was in my S. I pass the camera car at about 4.50 being followed closely by my friend in his Chimaera. You get a good idea of the track.

Haven't done Cadwell for a few years, could picture myself back on my bike going round there. Especially remember the squeaky bum times going over The Mountain, used to bury myself on my tank and hope for the best 🙂

Donington is my favourite track, my 986 went great round there a few months ago. gets a bit pricey in the summer, but most tracks do these days.

off to Anglesey this year for the first time, so will see how that goes!

I think Cadwell would be my fave. Reminds me of going out for a ride down country lanes. Not sure I'd like to do it in a car, unless it was just me and no-one else on the track, very narrow for cars, great for bikes

I was on my ZX6R following some bloke on a ratty CBR. He dived into Redgate at a pretty smart pace so I figured if he could do that so could I. Wrong. I realised I'd seriously overestimated my ability and halfway round I straightened up and headed for the kerb. The bike took off and when it landed it buried the front wheel up to the axle and stopped like it had hit a wall. Fortunately I was wearing personal protection equipment. For my equipment.

Turned out that the guy onthe ratty CBR was some kind of club racing hotshot. I stopped doing bike trackdays when it became apparent at another circuit that I had a gift for choosing the wrong person to race with.

Running out of talent at the wrong time never ends well 🤣. I do find on the bike that you get sucked in a tad by other (more skillful) riders 😂. I was at Donington a few years ago on my bike talking to a young lad doing a track day, he said he'd come off 6 times at Donington. Sure enough, low and behold  he didn't return from our session and sure enough he was in the kitty litter at Redgate 🙄. Another time there I saw a bike tumble-turning over the grass alongside the Craner curves. On getting the bike back to the pits I remember seeing his exhaust pipe exit just jammed full of earth and thinking he could just use that bit as a flower pot, rest of the bike (other than the battery) was wrecked 😌. Talking of which the Craner curves are still most enjoyable in a car as well 🙂

I like the clock lit up.  But it does create a reflection on the screen. But I activate it now and again because it makes me smile.

To be honest , prior to actually buying my Boxster I knew very little about them, I just wanted one, and one with as many "bits" as poss, and I just liked the look of that clock ( I thought it was actually a clock until I bought the car) on the dash.. Will likely never use it in anger but I still think it looks nice, and now I know it has a light, win win 🙂

Ps. Might be looking you up again in the not too distant future to get the cruise control programmed in, if the offer is still there 🙂

  16. MoT day today for my 2011 Boxster S. 85,750 miles and pleased to say it passed with no advisories 😁.
I was with the guy when he was about to do the emissions, how things have changed. He said he couldn't find the OBD11 port ( ??? so I pointed out to him where it was). Apparently it is a requirement for the MoT now that they hook up to the OBD for the engine temp and revs and the like and their BT handheld terminal which they plug into the OBD port then hooks up to their test gear. I've seen many an MoT where the engine temp has been over-ridden for the emissions test, so it looks like that little loophole (for some) has been closed (daresay there is a way round it still??).
Where you used to be able to see the emissions figures (percentages) on the garages test kit you now get 3 columns (not sure what they indicate that are red or green (pass or fail). Mine were all red to start with. the tester guy asked if I'd "driven" it much of late, which I hadn't due to 2 hip replacements in the last 3.5mths, so he gave it a few revs to clear out the cobwebs and hey presto all ok. I had taken it for a longer but not spirited drive before the MoT to ensure it was warmed up but that obviously wasn't suffice. So a lesson to be learnt there for the future??
Mine has Topgear sports cats which I fitted last year so I was wondering how the emissions would be. The tester guy remarked on the different O2 sensors but explained to him that they were the original O2 sensors but the after cat ones have an "extension elbow" on them that takes the sensor out of the direct flow of the exhaust gases in order to keep any engine management errors at bay. Obviously appear to do the job.
He still had to check the brakes and proceeded to get in the car and reverse it out of the bay, I presumed in order to turn it round and reverse it back in for some reason but then proceeded to drive the car along the front of the garages before braking hard. Apparently he uses a G force meter to record the braking forces, never seen that before either???
Just thought I'd post this up as some general info re the MoTs now.
He did also mention that my rears were getting low, but I have a track day booked at Donington 21/3 so will get that out the way before I change them out. Just hoping it's more slicks than wets weather on the day.
2yrs ownership and not a penny required on essential maintenance. Excellent stuff

Your .2 car carries a premium price and it could be that you want to protect that with FPSH. I'd rather see receipts for DIY oil changes every 3000 miles than "correct" FSH with 20000 miles intervals and it's certainly better for the engine. Depends on if you plan to keep the car long term, what value you place on full service history and if you are prepared to continue with the leg lifting exercise every 2 years to get a stamp in the book.

Plenty of people with Icarsoft PorV1 that will reset the dash service reminder at the press of a few buttons or they are only £50-60 secondhand on eBay.

Already got myself an Icarsoft POR v2 in readiness. Hate it when you need one but then have to wait for it. Was keeping an eye out and bought a "used once" jobbie for £80. Soon sell it on again for similar money when done, at least that's the plan 🙂

  18. My 2011 Boxster S is imminently due its 1st service under my ownership, full service as last one was a minor in March 2020.
It's got a full Official and Indy service history till now. From what I can see over and above the minor service (oil + filter + pollen/cabin filter + usual checks) it includes -
spark plug change (which were changed at 78k 03/20 so won't bother with that)
brake fluid change (last changed 2018)
drive belt change (been 6yrs since previous change in 2016 at 56.7k so due this year)
Tyre sealant replacement? Checked mine and looks like exp date of 28/08/18 so Slime replacement ordered. Has anyone tried using an out of date one of these in anger and cursed when they've found out it didn't work as it was out of date and no good? Or did it still work? Saw one on Ebay for £18 with expiry date 2012!!
transmission oil change (120k or 12yrs, so will likely do that myself next year along with an interim engine oil/filter change)

I changed the oil at 84400 15/8/21, now 85.6k so it would basically be a waste of time and money to do it again so soon, but I suppose it'll have to be changed, got to get that stamp in the book somehow.
Pollen/cabin filter change seems a waste as the roof is normally down almost every time I'm out in it anyway (stays up if we're on our way out and there's any danger of it ruining the wife's hair 😉)? But I suppose I'll change it anyway as it's a cheap job.

The brake fluid, drive belt and transmission oil changes are jobs I could do myself so is it worth sticking with the OPC/Indy?
    What are peoples thoughts/experiences?
  19. 2 years of Porsche ownership, how's it been?
Brill! Loved every minute of it, and a lot cheaper than I thought, on the essentials at least.
I've had my 2011 gen 2 Boxster S for nigh on 2yrs now and I've not had to spend a penny on it on any compulsory/needed maintenance, although 1st full service under my ownership due next month. I regularly read what seem like horror stories with some seeming to spend £1000s in service or repair bills. Have I just been lucky?
I bought it on 78k with a minor service just completed and it's now on 85.7k, and every one of those miles have been just because I wanted to drive it (not the best carbon neutral hobby).
I've done a couple of 12mpg trackdays, a few road trips in the UK, Wales, Lake District/Yorkshire Dales, and Devon, each at least 1k miles a time and they've all been top down extremely enjoyable motoring, which is precisely what I bought it for.
Other than the road trips where we might have caught the odd shower it doesn't go out in the rain, it's just been a case if the weather's nice, be it summer or winter, I go out and have a top down drive, add to that it's gone up in value by a couple of grand what's not to like??
The only expenses have been the optional mods, which probably come in a little over the £3k mark (and that's with picking up on the forums some great 1/2 price like new bargains on the major items), money so easily spent (and most are easily restored to standard if required).

Top gear sports manifolds and 200 cell cats + consequent remap
    DSC
    718 style rear lights
    Carbon fibre rear spoiler
Replacement stainless exhaust tips then Carbon fibre exhaust tips
    Spyder splitters
    Cruise control
Pioneer headunit + fitting kit (which cost more than the HU)
    Reversing camera
    Rear park assist
    Dynamic side indicators
Interior LED lighting + trunk and frunk + number plate
    Lanoguard
    "Porsche" puddle lights
Carbon fibre side vent covers (after de-snorkel)
    Wheel spacers
    Short shifter
I've changed the front brake pads (for Brembo HP2000s) but just to try and get rid of the squeal (but I still have the occasional one just as you come to a halt, very annoying).
+ lots of other little bits and I'm looking to get the wheels refurbed over the next few months.

Still loads of jobs I want to do on it but I've got to be pleased with it so far, hope the good fortune carries on
