Something in that box of tricks should do it. I'd be looking at the third row, T20 maybe.

It's one of those sets you see and think I'm bound to need one of those, whatever they are, at some time, and so it's proven so far. The cleaner should be turning up this afternoon but constant light drizzle all day so far today. Hopefully it will clear fo a short while this afternoon.

Well I can tell you on my 2006 2.7 Boxster and the Cayman I tinker with they were both "Pentalobe" bits.   Not normal security TORX.

I had any number of TORX bits including security types and nothing fitted.      I had to order a set of Pentalobe ones from Amazon.    Never used them since !

Checked my little Alladins cave (box) of bits and lo and behold I have an M5 M6 and M8 in there, bottom left corner. So what's the odds it's smaller than M5

I'll find out tomorrow and put a post up 👍

They actually have more "sides" than a normal torx / Allen bit............So not just the security type...  Pentalobe??  I can't remember exactly.

Ah. I was making the most of the weather today so after giving the roof a clean I took it out for a quick squirt, very enjoyable it was too. Just love that falt 6 with PSE and sports cats/manifolds. Will have a look tomorrow if the weather holds, and google the bits in the meantime. Thanks for the heads up

Hope you get it sorted,  the maf is the whole housing by the way. Is your car desnorked by the way ?

It is, will that affect anything? Couldn't say I noticed any difference. I've ordered some Liqui Moly 4066 Air Flow Sensor Cleaner, due to arrive Thursday. From what I've seen oiled performance filters such as K&N (I have a BMC), can caused MAF issues, as I presume that over time the oils will transfer from the filter to the MAF. When I bought my car the BMC filter was filthy, did post some pics on here at the time, was going to replace but cleaned. So maybe a combination of the filter having got so clogged, then the clean and re-oil could have ganged up on the MAF. Will hopefully find out Thursday 🙂

you'll likely find your torx bits etc won't fit the MAF fixings.    You'll need to order a set of the correct ones from Amazon etc.    I forget what they are called.

Cheers @sa utah. Been having a google, You tube vids etc and have seen they can use security Torx (Torx with a raised pin in the middle). I do have some of them. Will have a dabble tomorrow in daylight 👍

I'd recommend giving the maf a good clean,  be careful though they're fragile but can be done.

Thanks for the info @skoosh1970. The error is intermittent. They cleared it at the garage but it came on again the following day. I've got an icarsoft por v2.0 and reset to see what else came up and today I had P1094, which also seems to indicate the MAF (wherever that is, more googling required). So you could indeed be on the right track 👍

Those are generic/universal codes and do indeed point to "too lean" which sounds like either MAF as suggested ( can rule it out by unplugging it) - or an air leak - anything been done recently ( AOS? Airfilter? ) that could have a pipe thats split or not properly re-attached etc. ?

I wouldn't have expected plugs or coils to cause that, I think more likely that lazy starting and lumpy when cold is a symptom of this - I would chase the source of the lean running before firing the parts gun at the plugs/coils ( coils might be a problem of course but until the other bit is sorted then you won't know for sure if its one problem or two you are chasing)

Cheers Paul. Nothing done of late. The error is intermittent. They cleared it at the garage but it came on again the following day. 9. Hi All.

Further to my recent post of a couple of MoT advisories I also had the added bonus of the engine management light popping up as I started the car to drive it out of the MoT place. Apparently it would've failed the MoT if it had come up during the test, so something to be grateful for. Ist time I'd seen the engine management light. The guy took the car (Boxster S 987.2) to the side and stuck their kit on it.

It showed fault codes P0171 and P0174 which would appear to refer to a mixture too lean issue on both banks. They said it did show a misfire at one point.

I also now get an occasional rough idle but still drives well.

When cold it does seem to turn over for longer than I'd expect and once it fires up it can be very lumpy, even cut out, before running nice and smooth.

So question is has anyone experienced the same? Do I need plugs and coil packs (plugs were changed 3 yrs ago and have covered 12k).

If so any recommendations on where and which to go for?

    TIA... Garamps (AKA Rob)

Philips Ultinion Pro  for the low beam and the very lastest Novsight (N60) for the high beam.

No errors and works fine doing this. I did try the Novsights on the low beam but they throw errors when the air temperature is cold. I have a set to sell!

The Novsight high beam brightness is VERY good with the N60.

Hello @Ti Rich. I'm also looking to change out my main beam bulbs for something brighter. Are the N60s you fitted H9s? If so do you have a link for them? Cheers....Rob (AKA Gramps)

I have researched.  Complexity of install has stopped me.

    What you need is.

the tpms control unit - lives in the frunk.

4 x receivers - one in each wheel arch

Cost new each 100 - 200 but yes.  Could all be had from a breakers but still likely to run to 400-500 as a guess.

then the kicker.  You need to run a harness from each receiver in the wheel arch to the control unit in the frunk.  The issue is that there is no harness available from Porsche.  If the car was spec’ed with tpms then the connectors and the wiring would be built into the main harness - so it’s a case of 4 x custom looms with connectors that you have to run to the right place in the car.

then you need tpms sensors and valve stems per wheel. - Porsche is what 200 a wheel x 4 - compatible 3rd party perhaps half that.  20 quid a wheel to fit and rebalance

then you need a PIWIS session to tell the car tpms is there that’s either east if you have or know someone or hard if you don’t.

I ended up at too hard (the wiring and running the harness being the blocker. - if it was pre wired then breakers for sensors and controllers and 3rd party for the sensors would have been my route. )

looked at 3rd party sit on the valve stem solutions - nasty.

now mentally at a different approach perhaps using oem compatible wheel sensors and a diy receiver hooked on on the canbus - I have the “theory” and some pieces on the bench and some software to talk to the display but  it’s a winter project but I suspect I may run out of enthusiasm before I do anything with it.

I got interested after a recent front tyre blowout.  Of course.  I have no idea if the tyre was low and blew or if it was just unlucky or if I went over something half a second earlier. But I have become a little more diligent / paranoid about regular checking pressures.

conversely.  My daily has tpms and I know I have a slow puncture in one wheel but I don’t check those - because the car does it !

if anything comes of my diy solution then I will be 1) amazed and 2) happy to share anything more I learn.

Think there's enough "advice" there to convince me not worth the effort. I had a puncture on my 66 plate Mondeo and was unaware other than the TPMS popped up. Had a screw in it and had deflated enough for the rubber to start to delaminate on the inside so 2 new tyres needed. Sods law I was taking my daughter, and family (2 young kids) to the airport so out with all the luggage to fit the space saver wheel. Still made the flight in time so all good there at least. But having had that scenario  I hoped it might be an easy option to retrofit on the Porsche if I could fit the TPMS valves and then have it activated on PIWIS but obviously not the case. Thanks for all the info, very useful reply. I still need to get that cruise control enabled if the offer is still there 🙂
