Going to look at a 987 2.7 tomorrow, engine number 61504195, so am I right in thinking if the IMS needs done it can be done when changing the clutch only. It's only done 58k miles but serviced on time up until 3 years ago, but done very little miles since last service.

    Hope it's a good one.

Based on my own experience and on the comments on this thread I get the impression that the OPC’s see the Classic Register as a burden and something they’d rather not be bothered with just for the sale of a few parts to owners of old cars who are very unlikely to drop £150k on a new 911 GTS or take their 25yr old car for a service.

I always get the impression they think I’m cluttering up the showroom and making the place look untidy when I collect any parts.

OPC Portsmouth have always been very friendly when I drop in. They do, of course, quote nonsense prices for repairs eg. £5,700 to replace the exhaust - but that's just part of a premium marque.

The coffee's good & so many lovely toys on show.

Well I've spoken to guy, seems its a dealer, it's a long way to travel but it certainly ticks a lot of boxes. Asked a few questions and asked for a walk-around video. See what happens, no one else has messaged about car, cheers guys. 👍 Is this the one?

Lovely colour but high miles & six owners. I'd take plenty of time reading through the paperwork.

So on my 2003 3.2S just booked it in for a suspension refresh (read;replace everything..haha). Lots of ££££ and I know I'll never get my money back but I don't intend to sell it and ever since a young driver I've always wanted to restore a car and the boxster is just the car to fulfill that with!

The week after, the car goes into have the leather totally washed and redyed and the roof steam cleaned and protected.

I'm hoping it'll be like a new car... Happy days

This is my secret plan but I must wait for ££££ to accrue. My car already drives beautifully but everyone on the forum says suspension refresh is transforming.

Thanks @Everywhen. So far I have replaced the fuel filler cap😁  and both front drop links, restored and re-waterproofed the roof, cleaned almost everything inside, including the sticky radio knobs (they were grim) and under one of the front wheelarches, clay bar'd and polished the back end etc. More parts arriving this week, pollen filter cover, heater matrix cover (as I discovered a leak into the drivers footwell when cleaning it)  It will be a work in progress for quite a while to come but just getting the keys and opening the garage door fills me with excitement every time. Still can't believe I own a Porsche, happy days, even if she is an old girl. She just needs some love and attention.

These are great cars but they're elderly so there'll always be some work to do. Your obvious pride in ownership means it'll be a labour of love. And they're great fun to drive.

After selling my bike, I have hankered for a sports car. Something a bit more evolving to drive than a Vauxhall Astra. Settled on a search for a Boxster as you can fit a small golf trolley & a set of clubs using both boots.🤩

As fate would have it I had a chance encounter with Paul Lewis / Torque Boxsters via this forum. Paul had just bought one from an auction & told me it was, surprisingly, rather nice.

A journey to Sunbury was easy as i'm in West London. My next port of call was going to be Chesterfield ! After talking to Paul for 10 mins I knew that if the car drove in a straight line i'd buy it. A complete novice to these cars, it was comforting that an expert had been all over it. No need for a private inspection🤑 They say don't buy the first one you see but the stars were aligned. So what about the car !

A 2007 987.1 2.7 in midnight blue, leather interior, Cayman S wheels, Remus exhaust tips, 109k miles, stamps in the book & a few bob spent on it from the previous 7 owners. One of these guys was very helpful when I emailed him. One month later & 500 miles it's lovely to drive & looks like a four year old car not seventeen. Really clean interior, everything works. It's taut, like a coiled spring & has loads of grunt, stuff you all already know.

This morning it passed it's MOT with an advisory on a small amount of play in the steering rack. This has been the same for the last 4 MOT tests.

If you are lurking on this forum & thinking about buying a Boxster, go for it.

Paul Lewis is a top bloke to deal with. Very knowledgeable & I believe he would not have sold me this car with any iffy issues. Torque Boxsters will look after it for me. Thanks Paul.

You've got yourself a handsome toy. Enjoy not having to wear leathers and a helmet to get your fun.

  7. My Mother had polio as a child, resulting in different sized feet ( 3 & 5 ). When she was about 50 she found someone with the opposite configuration. She'd always had to buy two pairs of shoes but for the rest of her life she posted the unwanted ones to her new friend.

    I don't know anyone with a LHD Boxster 987.1.

Popped into Silverstone Porsche to pick up a wind deflector fixing kit 986 561 323 00.  One clip has been broken since I got the car nearly 5 years ago.  Time to get this smallish job ticked off.  £22.20 for the complete, annoying it comes with all three bits and you can't just buy a left or right hand top clip.  I shall change both top clips as I have them so they are aged the same by UV.

The thing that always irritates me is carpets. The drivers side can get quite shabby but the passenger side still looks new - you have to buy the pair.

  9. So, upgrading to braided hoses has turned out to be rather costly. The short metal pipes adjacent all needed to be replaced too because someone, somewhere had tightened the soft metal fittings until they were all rounded off. Then when three corners were completed, the front offside corner needed yet another pipe to be replaced so the car has been taken hostage while the new part is obtained. I expected a bill of around £200 but £600 seems more likely - I'll find out tomorrow. The upgraded GT3 M/C cost a bit over £600 so my upgraded brakes have emptied my pockets effortlessly.

Hope I can feel the benefit after all this.

thanks for all the replies really appreciate it.

ive seen a couple of people mention to go to OPC to buy the bits, as I've not done this before do you just phone them up or pop in?

If you phone & ask for the parts dept, they'll be happy to order any parts they don't have in stock.

If you just drop by, you get to wander around and gaze at all the Pork. You'll find the dealers very friendly. They don't only care about the 100K + sales.

And if you want even less sponginess fit braided (Goodridge) hoses in place of the factory flexi hoses.

I've spoken to a local garage and they're going to source the Goodridge hoses. The proprietor mentioned plastic covered braided hoses, I assume that's what I should be fitting?

I went back to Precision Porsche who couldn't fit them until late August. The local man can do it later this week. @bally4563 advised that there's no Porsche specific skill required.

Didn’t you just have new brake fluid?

I did indeed. I wonder if it might not be necessary to change it? As they named the brake fluid, I wondered if that was somehow up-speccing the brake fluid? I'll ask the question. Otherwise the quote seemed okay to me.
