And if you want even less sponginess fit braided (Goodridge) hoses in place of the factory flexi hoses.

Quoted coins under £400. I'll get it booked in. I can't think of a good reason not to have the best brakes.

GT3 Master cylinder is not about progression, it just takes the spongy brake pedal feel that came along with the 987

Perhaps I'm mis-using the term progressive. I expected the pedal to feel different as I applied pressure. It doesn't. I trust Precision Porsche to have bled the brakes correctly.

Interestingly, Meno also raised the braided hoses as a suggestion. I'm now in contact with Precision to get a quote.

Not falling out, just think you should consider following the advice you have been given from people who have experience in these matters and actually try your car on Michelins before summarily dismissing them as making no difference.

I love the Michelin on my car, but each to his own. I wouldn't be spending a grand on new tyres if I had one yr old Tyres of another reputable brand.

It's Walkers at Adversane - well recommended and well regarded so I thought I'd give them a try this time. I've used Mortimers before, they're very knowledgeable and similar prices.

I've settled with Precision Porsche, also not cheap but I think they're fair. Two years ago when I needed a body of work done, I took advice in creating a parts list, shopped around & got all the bits. Precision were quite happy to use the parts I supplied & just charged me labour. It saved me a lot of money.

It will get better with use.
I recently got the Carnewal GT conversion and immediately got buyers remorse because it sounded too aggressive. Luckily I drove to Belgium to have the work done which meant that I added 1000 miles on it on the way home and it now sounds sweet as a nut.

Stick with it before you make a decision.

Thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it.

I don't have a decision to make, it's on the car - I'm committed. I was never going to spend £5.6 K on a Porsche part.

I suspect that most people would prefer the new, throatier sound. I've always preferred quiet, with the engine only roaring when really pressed. I'll get used to the new normal.

Most importantly, the old exhaust and all its elderly fittings are now renewed so the car should go for many more years and miles without expense in that department.

    It's always a great ride.

  7. So, the new exhaust has given my car a sore throat, definitely a more aggressive sound. I actually prefer the quieter original, but not enough to spend 5.6K to replace it.

The GT3 master cylinder feels like a complete waste of money, I feel no difference to pedal feel. The car stopped well with the original and it still does. Not quite sure why I thought it would feel more progressive.

Precision Porsche will continue to get my custom. Very good feeling that they know what they're doing with Porsche, but running one of these cars doesn't come cheap for those of us without spannering skills.

  8. Drove 30 miles to Precision Porsche to be there when the doors opened at 8am. Today they're replacing the exhaust end to end, doing a full service on the car, fitting a GT3 master brake cylinder, replacing a door mirror lens and mounting my rear number plate using the Porsche Classic mount. Also conducting an MOT. Various sundries added eg. replace all eight bleed nipples on the brakes. Costing a pretty penny but I'm so looking forward to picking it up in the morning with everything tip-top & Bristol fashion. These are great cars.

Should have looked up Stabilus struts on line.  They are the OE supplier and are about £15 - £20 each.

I used Stabilus on the bonnet and they're fine. But by buying a Porsche one, I was able to collect my 'free' classic number plate surround. After Classic discount, it cost £30 - no big deal - & I got to gaze at some Pork.

  10. I dropped by Porsche Portsmouth today and collected my classic number plate holders. I was actually there to buy a replacement boot strut as mine keeps dropping. Happily accepted the discount and gazed at the big boys toys.😀

Earth shattering it ain't, but unlike many things in this world is is free and a big corporate actually doing something to reflect its history.  And yes, you have to collect the number plate holders from your registered OPC.  I actually got mine fitted by ordering a set of new plates (not an exorbitant price with fitting included) at the same time.

I accept that it's a freebie & beautifully packaged. It felt like apple packaging without a phone enclosed.

I just received my copy of “christophorus”, but still no welcome pack.

When the welcome pack arrives, you'll wonder why you bothered. "Precious little" overstates it. I'm still waiting for the number plate surround but not holding my breath.

Hallelujah 😀Success. Thank you Northway Porsche.

I went over there this afternoon to check on whether the Dansk exhaust was supplied with gaskets, clamps and fittings. They took one look at the price for the Dansk (with rear cats) £2002 VAT inc, which doesn't come with all the fittings, they're extra, then a Rapspeed tailpipe £680 VAT inc, then add the cost of fitting I wouldn't have got any change out of £3000, which they said you might just as well buy an original Porsche.

They asked why I hadn't chosen a Miltek which had a better warranty and cost less. When I said that I couldn't source a Miltek for a 987 Gen 1 2006, a quick phone call to their supplier and a price for a Miltek, tailpipes, plus fittings included was £1200 + VAT. It was a no brainer the Miltek was ordered there and then and the car booked in for fitting. The Miltek has a similar sound to the Dansk is a lot quieter than the Designtek and has a much better warranty. I didn't realise that one of the flexible couplings on the Dansk is of suspect quality and that's the reason the warranty was dropped from five to one year.

Well done. I had heard that Militech were prone to drone but I'm beginning to think that rumour sticks to all after market exhausts. I hope it gives long service and that the flexible coupling on my Dansk ( soon to be ) will turn out to be durable. If we meet sometime we must compare notes, exhaust notes.

Precision tried to palm me off with a Dansk exhaust (in my opinion £2.5k for any exhaust except PSE is absolutely ludicrous) and stated it wouldn't pass an MOT otherwise.

Had a small patch welded up by another specialist for £50.

Precision actually did a temporary repair for me which has lasted for several months while I found the money to replace the whole system. I'll be much happier when I've future-proofed it, rather than make do & mend. My car's a keeper.

@McDonald  Are you going to keep your original tail and connecting pipes?

I have no interest in the stuff coming off, so I assume it will go to scrap. The original system lasted 18 years, so I'm hoping the replacement will be good for a dozen years . I'll be 80 by then, possibly struggling to get in & out of the car by then - who knows?

Help I'm in the deep end without a paddle or flippers.

I need to replace the original exhaust system on a 2005 987 Gen 1 with a similar system that is of good value. I don't need to have the latest snap, crackle and bang, a deep roar or anything adjustable, just a plain, simple exhaust that is good for touring. I don't use the car in a performance or sporty mode. Speaking to my workshop (Northway) a Porsche replacement would set me back £3k, so I am looking for the same type of thing at a reasonable price £1000 to £2000 with conventional cats but without additional switches, plenum chambers etc, etc.

Miltek, Designtek or Top Gear have been suggested but I'm being defeated by the technical descriptions.

Many thanks for any advice given.

I'm about to replace my exhaust. Same vintage 987.1. I also have no desire for extra noise options, I'm a quiet sort of fellow. I'm advised by my preferred indie ( Precision Porsche ) that my best option is Dansk. They've quoted me approx £2.5K fitted. I've already paid them & I'm just waiting for the parts to arrive.

( was scheduled for fitting last Friday but customs seem to have delayed things ) BREXIT! .

Precision say they've fitted Dansk to numerous 997.1s & no customer has reported drone. They haven't done a Boxster.

I did investigate Porsche main dealer. They quoted £5,600 & recommended a £300 contingency budget in case extra labour is required removing the old one.

Today I found out that I've buggered the drivers side headlamp when I applied Armour All headlamp wipes yesterday.
Now got a nice cloudy line on the inside edge.

They were fine, I should have left them as was but I wanted to get a layer of UV protection down before Belgium this weekend.

Hey ho. You live and learn. Need to do a proper restoration now.
Is this something that a body shop would do considering they have all the kit?

I used a local bodyshop & they did a superb job. 18months on, they still look new.

Replaced both rear droplinks and anti roll bar bushes but still have a knock.  2 x rear tuning forks ordered from Spyder Performance.  Hopefully that sorts it or I will lose half of everything in the divorce.

What will she do with one rear drop link, an anti-roll bar bush & a tuning fork, I wonder?

Build her own car, Johnny Cash style?

Omg that Porsche price is horrific...is that for a complete system including cats?

All figures quoted were complete systems. My exhaust has been in place for 18 years. One part has rusted through, its reasonable to imagine that the rest of the system must be on its last legs.
