I met a guy who does smart repairs etc ex jet fighter painter. I bought 2l of paint for £100ish and he sprayed them for £230. I had already done all the prep.

Realistically you are looking at circa £450 a bumper professionally done

I stripped my bumpers of al the parts and took them to a local specialist body shop who does restorations and custom work not hundreds of insurance jobs. Front £240, rear £278 which included some repairs to the cracks in the top edge on the thin bit of the flat edge that sits under the rear lights. Both incl VAT,

That seems like a good price.  I take it that doesn't have South England Tax on it.

Your 450 is fair if they have to take them off the car, strip all the components off the bumper shells and if they do lots of insurance work then, 'Its a bumper, so £xxx.'  If you can find a small specialist painter you might get a better price.

Ordered the new design Brembo discs (not handed) and Textar pads and some wear sensors for the front brakes on Sunday from CP4L for £212, arrived today DHL despite choosing economy delivery.  Quiet afternoon so fitted them (getting a lot of practice on discs and pads as I did The Better½'s rears on Sunday am and the step daughter's front on Sunday pm).  Almost embarrassed to post teh first pictures showing teh condition of teh disc.  Lesson is check both the outside and inside of your discs.

Outside faces of old discs, look fine:

Inside faces 😱:

DJcyEqt.jpg Old disc and new disc to show different drilling pattern, looks a lot like the rear discs which are not handed:

Also on the test drive I thought the exhaust was a little quieter after fitting the cat heat shields at the weekend which had been missing since before I owned it.  May be need a roof up test too to check, but if this is the case it might explain why a few people have liked my exhaust sound and have been surprised to find it was standard and original.

Nicest surprise of the lot on the short dual carriageway drive was that a wobble/vibration I have been getting sine I;ve had the car seems to have gone with the new discs, it had been there through old tyres and new tyres on 17" rims then new 18" rims and tyres and a damned good clean and wire brush of the wheel to hub faces.  Could have been a slightly out of balance disc!

Any thoughts why the inner disc has worn like that. Caliper pistons maybe?

All the pistons were free and no signs of fluid leaks. The I had the discs off doing the suspension in late 2020 there was a single line of corrosion about half way in the diameter of the pad swept area but no further comment at teh service back in October and I;ve only done about 1500 miles since then., I guess this has worked in and effectively blown the polished face off the disc.  My wife's Golf's discs look much like this on the front when I changed them earlier this year so not an unknown phenomenon.  Both cars are kept outside and used all years round.  Just don't be misled by the outside face looking nice and clean and evenly worn!

I have driven my car to work today!

Ok, probably very normal for most of you, but it's a 52 mile commute each way, so about 1hr30, into town.  Longest distance in my ownership and it didn't put a foot wrong, bearing in mind many have paid more for a service than I paid for the whole car .  Very pleased with my little Boxster!

Can I ask what you paid and is this black carpet?

Just checked your "I'm back" thread. Yeah at £1500 you are certainly in credit - hope it keeps going that way for you!

That was the purchase price, replaced some suspension components, changed the oil and a few other little bits, and bumpers painted brings the total to about £2300.  Still a bargain.

I'm sure some big expenses will come, but as it's a keeper, that won't be a problem.

Well after a long spate of I’ll health plus a fault that caused mine to go into limp mode but with no CEL, I managed to rectify the fault by dismantling and putting back on all my vacuum hoses, but in between caused a CEL light to come on but no limp mode and revs past the 2000 point. So after taxing and unSORNing I drove off my block paving ....to discover I now had a split in the rubber of the Tyre stem valve and pulled my hair out to the sound of escaping air. Bollo**s.. SORN for 6 months and a trip no longer than 20yards cuts short my brief joy until I took the wheel to a local garage...valve replaced and a joyous drive in this sunny weather we have Atm.

I didn’t even bother playing any music just treated my ears to the symphony the engine and exhaust played.. Damn I’ve missed this.😁

Ordered a new outer track rod for the front right.  TRW part form CP4L, £29 delivered.

I noticed a split in the rubber boot on the ball joint when doing my brakes on Tuesday, probably a legacy of a small nick when doing the suspension work 18 months ago as this was one of the few components I haven't changed.  Had to do the left side at the time as I badly split that rubber boot.

And remarkably they tried to deliver at 12:03 (Sod's law said I had to go out to a site but to be fair was expecting economy 3 day delivery), less than 4 hours later!  Must have had stock at local ECP branch.  They will try again tomorrow....

Check your inner arms at the same time Chris,

If you have not done them, you may as well at the same time.

You will need a geo once done

Thanks for the heads up Paul, however I checked and they feel fine and the gaiters are sound.

That said when the track rod is off I can give that one a better waggle to feel for any play and if I find any I'll do both.  It would also give me an excuse to buy another tool, a Tie Rod Wrench, unless a crow's foot would get on it.
