josil
Hi, does anyone on here have an aftermarket steering wheel in their 986? Mine is the 3 spoke, but I find it too big and also would like to be tad closer. Has anyone performed a swap into another Porsche steering wheel (to retain the airbag) or did a hack with the resistors to get a Nardi/Momo one in? Menoporsche
@marseille? I think it was one of his weight-saving measures.
marseille
here's a photo of mine the boss you need is for a 944, I don't have an airbag system on the car anymore so no issue with the light
bally4563
I must admit I do like the look and the practicality of that ?
edc
Practicality? Steve hasn't told you about the finger extensions he needs to operate the stalks yet ??
marseille
Lol Oh yer you do have to take your hands of the wheel to operate stalks, you can of course get a flatter style wheel

Which size did go for, 350mm? How does that compare to stock?
Patt
Lower the seats? 987 seats are slightly lower, the GT3 buckets are significantly more.

The seat is already at its lowest point and I quite like it. Replacing the steering wheel would hive a better reach option as well.
Patt
What I meant is they are mounted lower. I sit quite close to the wheel for my height and I couldn't sit in a standard 986 seat and wheel for the same reasons as you.
boxtaboy
Take a look at this thread. First post shows a nice smaller steering wheel with factory airbag... http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/64149-show-us-your-interiors.html These guys sell em: http://www.dctms.com/product_ST_PCH.html
That986
I had my Nardi installed for a while which i loved in my old car. The strange thing is it never felt right in the Boxster for some reason, too petite.
PaulQ
If you want to retain the airbag, then i'm not aware of any smaller Porsche wheels. Those DCT wheels looks lovely. Raid do some too, but not as pretty.......cheaper though. http://www.carnewal.com/Raid Stock is approx 375mm.350mm sounds perfect to me. Took a Momo wheel off my MX-5 before I sold it, but still not got round to fitting it yet. Yellow momo lettering replaced with guards red to match the gear knob. If you fit a non airbag wheel, your will need part number 964.652.104.00 for the horn to function, or use a remote switch.
bagss2
This is @marks44's interior / customised wheel: IIRC, he had it done by a company in Poland. It's the original wheel re-sized with a flat-bottom. Looks ace, IMO. Cheers, Baggers.

Yes it's 350mm but I've had one fitted for a few years now so can't really remember the first impressions just that it felt a lot better, this is the first style I had on there
sential
Got the heated seats which are amazing, was thinking the other day though that a Boxster heated steering wheel needs to be invented..

Yes, I understood what you meant, but that still would not resolve steering wheel needed a tad closer issue Maybe sometime in the future, but as I said, at the moment I'm quite happy with the sport seats in mine, and they are lowered all the way to the bottom. But thanks for the link! On 11/8/2016 at 0:45 PM, That986 said: I had my Nardi installed for a while which i loved in my old car. I'm thinking about going the Nardi Personal way. On 11/8/2016 at 9:50 PM, PaulQ said: If you want to retain the airbag, then i'm not aware of any smaller Porsche wheels. Seems like the only way to go is non-airbag way, and get the boss covered in some way that is more pleasing to the eye. Thanks guys for the opinions and help! I'm not sure when, but this mod is on my todo list now.
