Recently sold my 996.1 for a 981. Its the 2.7 but with high spec, full leather, 20" alloys, fancy xenons, bose, pcm, sat nav only thing it hasnt got is PSE. Thinking of making a trip over to belgium to get the gt exhaust treatment.

Anyone done this and not been impressed/ regretted having it done??

Only read positive comments so far!!

I've heard it on Steve's 2.7 981 and its sounds brilliant.

+1 for above. I followed @Ringer250 during the champagne Run in Reims and was amazed at the sound it made, I thing Steve went to Belgium to have it done.

@Patt you are correct!

@tcornet @Forest thanks for the nice comments guys.

@jimmy p gert  at Carnewal is a great guy and has a brilliant set up at his workshop. My exhaust was an exchange unit. Gert invited me to inspect the replacement exchange before the swap. You cannot tell the difference on appearance. The swap took 45 minutes. I was made coffee with some cake and free wifi plus car mags. Worth a wander round the "shop". When I heard a car start up I thought "that sounds really good!". Then I saw it was mine. Gert said it would take apps 100 miles for things to settle down. The sound is the best of both worlds, subtle when you want, fruity when you get going, especially with the sport button.

I still smile every time I press the right foot and whack it round to 7,000 rpm!!

Happy for you to listen to it if we are on a meet somewhere or just Do it!

PS beware of the potholes on the Belgian roads, including the motorways!

No one seems to be putting me off this idea, just wish Gert wasn't so far away, its a four hour trip just to get to Dover, looks like a very early start for me one morning!!!

I thought it was me that wrote this:-

My exact thoughts,  defiantly a +1 for a road trip to vist Gert's set up in Belgium.

Guvs.

I got mine done this long weekend a year ago and absolutely no regrets, it sounds superb.  Excellent value for money mod IMHO.  We stayed in Bruge on the Saturday and Sunday nights and then dropped in to see Gert on the Monday on our way back home - great coffee and cake too while you wait :)

Gert's exhausts are a good option but there are some great exhausts a lot closer!

I know you have a 981 and I have a 987s but I thought I would tell you about my experience with exhausts, it may help with your choice.

Originally I was after a bit more noise, on par with my old 986 bypass. A good bit throatier but not annoying or intrusive. I fancied a Carnewal exhaust but didn't fancy the trip and also the money was a bit tight after buying the car.

So I had a bypass mod done to my existing exhaust which didn't really work and by doing this Gert wouldn't give me a exchange so I would have to pay £900ish for a second hand exhaust he had modified.

To me that sounded a lot of money for a used exhaust that was only slightly louder than standard. This is when I explored other options, custom built exhausts or the pre fabricated valved systems. The valved systems particularly interested me as you have the option of the quieter mode of your not in the mood ?

After a lot of research and quotes I went with the valved system which removes the secondary cats and also gives you the remote option to switch between quite mode (slightly louder than standard) or full Sports which sounds glorious with no cabin drone. This cat back system cost about £1000 fitted and came with a transferable lifetime warranty.

Admittedly they under quoted me and had to stick to the quote but I don't think they were too much out....

Most people who have heard this exhaust agree it sounds pretty sweet and for me I definitely think it was the right choice.

Its a pity Southy didn't get a decent sound clip from the Bridgnorth meet last week but those who heard it liked ?

Well finally got this booked in for the end of June. Road trip it is. Prob going to stop over in Folkestone night before as think 650 miles in one day might make it a chore rather than enjoyable.

Looking forward to it now.

Hi, if it's not a rude question how much does Gerts system cost and is it switchable using a switch in the main cluster like the PSE?

HI, the system isn't switchable but it sounds sublime to my ears, no drone at all.  You can email Gert to get a price and his website is:

Cost is 495 euros wether he posts it to you or you drive to have him fit it whilst you wait. By driving it saves sending back your exhaust as the postage way involves exchange of your old exhaust.

Not much difference in cost either way really as one you have to pay travel costs the other you have to pay specialist to fit it!!

I fancied the trip over there for the experience.

I have a set of 981 2.7 standard silencers (2014) sat in a box gathering dust. Only on the car for about 15 months. If anyone wants them to use as loaners to get modified and save a trip to Belgium make me an offer. Can Parcelforce anywhere at cost.

Update,

After a week and a half exhaust is now sounding perfect. Gert says not to judge it until it's done 100 miles or so, I've now done about 500 miles  and I now feel its bedded in. Sounds much better with deeper sound in normal mode and like pse in sport+ when you press the sport button with pops and bangs!! So in a way it is like having a switchable exhaust. Good value mod!!
