New rear disc kit GOOD PRICE?

Seems pretty expensive to me, worth checking on ECP/EBay. I just bought the discs/pads for my 2.5 for a little over £100 off eBay and reused the sensors after carefully extracting them from the old pads as they weren’t worn down enough to damage the sensors.

If going to ECP do not buy Pagid discs, see my other posts.

@the baron  where is your info that Pagid is owned by ECP and now produce inferior products? They have been in partnership for 10 years as a supplier and retailer however I can't find anything to say ECP have purchased them. Pagid is a brand of TMD Friction (who also make Textar and Mintex brake products) which is owned by the Nisshinbo Group according to latest info, and ECP is owned by  LKQ Corporation but if you can furnish us with something more up to date then please do. I've used Pagid for years on my cars and fitted numerous on friends and family cars with no issues but always willing to change if there is evidence to suggest Pagid is now poor quality.

Lee from CPS had informed me of the connection, I've used Pagid discs on various cars in the past and never had an issue, however the ones bought from ECP were warped, Lee tested them and confirmed it was an issue with them.

ECP refused to change them and said it was my fault and I must have warped them...

I used to race classic Porsches amongst other cars, I know how to drive and I certainly did nothing to suggest that they overheated, it was normal driving conditions, they gradually got worse, until I went to Lee's who confirmed the issue and produced a report, he swapped them out for a higher quality disc and he told me of 3 other customers who had the same issues with Pagid discs bought from ECP.

The theory is that with the connection with ECP, what ever that is, they have produced the discs in a different way to reduce the cost this has affected performance.

If ECP had admitted fault and replaced them I would have given them another go because they seemed excellent value for money, but being that cheap you have to ask yourself how can they produce them for that price and the result is the quality has suffered.

So it is just a theory that ECP own the Pagid brand?

ECP probably spend millions and millions each year with TMD Friction buying their products, they will get them at a seriously good price. ECP will also sell a huge amount of stock at cost price or less to shift it, the cost to purchase won't always have a direct and consistent correlation on what they get sold for.

As far as the quality goes, nothing on TMD's website suggest they would make brakes any different for ECP, why would they? You could always ask them to confirm your theory :)

TMD make hundreds of thousands of brake products each yet, it is entirely plausible that the odd product falls short on quality (machine or human error) and slips through to retail. Or maybe ECP slipped some Eicher discs in the box ;)

Some discs do warp maybe cause of slightly different steel alloy mix or crystal structure when they are made.  What a decent manufacturer should do is replacement, the for @the baron seems to be that ECP didn't do their job when their was a problem.  Steve, did you take the complaint to TMD Friction when ECP did nothing?  Might even be worth doing now with the added evidence of the spread of bad news about their products on performance car forums....

Whatever, the fact is the discs sold to me by ECP and 3 others have all been warped and on ALL occasions ECP refused to acknowledge responsibility, its bad form and I won't be returning to them. Something has happened to the quality since working with ECP

Plenty of discussions on other forums mirroring my experience with ECP and Pagid

All Ive done is forewarn others, its your money if you want to take the risk....

ECP is expensive anyway, thanks for the info guys

Went for some on ebay in the end £150 for disc, pads and sensors

Their standard price is expensive, but the discounts codes vary and can be very competitive.

Why so dismissive with your 'whatever' comment? Your beef should be with ECP. Do what has been suggested and email TMD directly and explain that you have used their products for years and are not impressed with the discs you bought and also ECP failed to help. I'm sure they'd be keen to analyse the discs to find out the issue :)

As far as taking a risk, I don't see any and will continue to buy Pagid discs as I have never had a problem with them on my cars or any other cars I've fitted them on. Let's face it we wouldn't buy anything if we were guided by reading an internet negative review on something, especially with cars.

"Whatever" wasn't being dismissive, it was used in the context of whatever the relationship is, the product is still below par compared to a few years ago in my experienced based opinion, in the experience of at least 3 others and the opinion of a leading independent Porsche specialist and the view of a lot of people on the internet forums.

I just merely pointed out my experience to potentially help others not make a similar mistake.

Unless you have a vested interest in Pagid or related companies I cant see why you are so vehemently defending them.

Everyone is free to make their own judgement and spend their money on whatever they want.

Pagid do 2 ranges , the ones that are sold to Vehicle Manufacturers and then the aftermarkets version sold by ecp ,  Yes the aftermarket ones will be not as good , but they will be to an accredited standard and fit for purpose

Brake discs do not warp.. No matter what any mechanic tells you ( It is a common term mechanics use without any substance or knowledge of ) , a solid steel disc can not warp , Brake manufacturers biggest cost is in R&D and spend millions making sure they do not cause problems or fail and cause death's.

A  majority  of brake judder issues are caused by either poor fitment or putting say pagid discs on and then say ebc pads on  ,as pagid cannot test the compatability of one working in tandem with the other. The other main cause of judder is pad material lining the disks.

I believe  @the baron was using 'whatever' in the correct grammatical sense, not a dismissive colloquial sense that seems to have more common usage currently.
