mkn777er
The nearside of my roof will not close properly, it refuses to sit behind the trim as shown on the photos. To 'coax' it into the correct position I have to sit in the passenger seat and feed it behind the trim as it closes - a little bit annoying. I bought the car from my local Inchcape Lexus dealership and it came with 3 years warranty. I have contacted them and they have agreed it qualifies as a warranty repair. But this is the problem! The nearest Inchcape Porsche dealership is 176 miles away (Portsmouth) and so they will allow me to take it to my local Porsche dealer. In that event the 'diagnostic charge' is not covered by the warranty and Porsche want £196 (per hoiur) for diagnostics. Has anybody experienced this problem with the roof and is it an easy or expensive repair? Any good soft top specialists in the East Midlands area? If I can get it done for a lot less than £196 it won't pay to claim on the warranty, obviously if it's going to be more I will just hand it over to Porsche. Many thanks
Paul P
Common fault - likely easy DIY fix - have a look at this (there are likely many similar how to's around) - search for boxster roof elastic
Paul P
But, if its under warranty, get it done by Porsche - the "diags" for this will be " they all do that sir" - send the pictures above to local dealer and see what they say.
red rocket
Welcome. Paul beat me to it. The video is a good guide however rather than replace or add elastic you can reach in, remove the small torx screw (t15 iirc) holding the elastic to the frame, move elastic up one or two notches and resecure. Simples! Max 15 minute diy job that way and no need to claim.
Menoporsche
Yup, DIY. And if you want to replace the elastic "properly", go to somewhere that sells sewing supplies and look for "button elastic" which has buttonholes sewn into it at regular intervals, and put the small torx screw through one of them. IIRC you need less than 6 inches per side, see how little they sell you. Welcome
Mattman42
All of the above, it’s a really simple DIY fix luckily

mkn777er
Thanks everyone. Looks like a straight forward DIY job. I think I will give it a go myself - if it does not work I can always take it to Porsche.
Mike1960
Just to add a note if you DIY it. If you tighten it too much then the roof will stop a little short of the normal position and you will need to pull it with the handle to locate the front lock. Mine stopped about an inch short, so not a huge problem and as everyone has said, took about 15mins to back it off a bit.

Rich_Machin
Cool, very useful, noticed mine didn't seat properly on the last use, so might have a look at this, although it looks a little fiddly....
