Another use for a C-Tech?

Quick question,

In the event of a battery change, would it be possible to use your c-tech battery charger plugged into the cigar lighter under the armrest to maintain a charge to the car?  And would there be any difference by selecting the AGM setting or Recond?

No problem at the mo with the battery but it would be good to know for the future!

The Ctek MSX 7 has a supply mode to do what you suggest, the 5 does not. If you hit Amazon with a search on Car Memory Saver you will find 20 quid devices which can also do the same job from a donor battery.

Cheers, will have a look!

Ah, that’s more like it, was looking at some ‘OBD’ devices which straight away lost me! This is much more straightforward.

Had my battery changed at Norauto (French Halfords), they charged me 20 bucks for 15 mins work apparently as they applied a "memory saver".  No idea what it saved, as I don't have radio or memory seat presets, but it didn't save the clock time.

Did you remember where you left the car? There's your answer. 😁

Most chargers which have reverse connection protection do so by using battery volts to operate a relay inside which, when made, connects the charger to the battery. The relay coil has a diode in series, so won't make if the polarity is wrong. This also means the charger won't work with a totally flat battery, or no battery at all. CTEK do a very expensive version which says it can be used as a battery substitute, but don't say how it gets round this.

Battery replacement (disconnect and reconnect) will likely result in psm errrr (easy to sort left lock , right lock drive a bit ) windows one touch reset. Sat nav takes up to 15 mins to find itself, clock reset, total trip count /calc etc get reset.  Some harder so see adaptions (dme etc )

Not a show stopper but for a few quid if you have the donor battery (or a charger) then saves you having to reset.

worse of the battery goes completely flat.  That upsets the car. In some cars requiring a handover reset to ge tbskc things like heated seats, interior lights and various other things.

if you have no choice or feel lucky then swap and to quote an Aussie mate “she’ll be right” bit if you a choice then you might save yourself some aggro
