Cross over pipes

Do it once, do them all and with Porsche parts.  Isn't cheap though as it s sub-frame off unless you put in some temporary long studding in the bolt holes.  Whilst you are under there check the steering rack hydraulic pipes and the left to right front brake line as these need sub-frame off to to do.  Will obviously need tracking as well afterwards.

I had mine done last year as preventative as i need new rads fitting anyway.

genuine porsche parts.

Its one of those jobs where a specialist should be cheaper as they should know how to do it without dropping the sub frame completely which makes it a lot easier / quicker to do.

nb its more tricky on a 987.2 compared to a .1 only due to the fact its harder to replace the coolant in a .2 ie more time consuming process

i paid £1300 and something (from memory) with the new rads fitted as well

I just had mine done via Porsche & Euro in Barnsley.

This included the cross over pipes, the feed and return pipes (under the engine) & a brake fluid flush and change and it was basically the same as Moneypit.

All genuine Porsche parts 👍

I did my cross over pipes around 3 months ago on the 987.1 after lots of good advice on this forum.

its really not as bad as it looks, i did it on axle stands on the drive i also did the brake hardline as they cross through the gap between the cab and the fronk.

id say most garages would be able to do it easy enough.

the parts came to around £450.

Eh ?

I'm seeing numbers of £500 all in for Porsche parts including labour and at least one person saying £450 just for the Porsche bits.

Think my 987.2 was costed out on paper at about 1K when it had it's done as part of pre-prep, subframe was dropped and alignment done in it's case (yeah I know not everyone drops the subframe).

ye just checked a little over £460 and that was the best price I could find direct from porsche. I didn't do the plastic ones either.

Just had mine done at opc under warranty.  I subsidised the parts (warranty only covered what was leaking and what could reasonably be made to leak by cooperative service tech )

I paid about 320 inc for the bits I paid for.  Warranty got billed for the rest to the tune of about 1800.

That seems far too cheap.

Sorry! 2 years ago or so. That's what I paid. Very happy with the work done. They're my regular Indy. Prices may have gone up since then.

Porsche Sheffield quoted me £360 for the cross over pipe kit & the two rubber pipes further up the system (because I had a leak on these it bumped the price up £95. This didn't include the plastic manifolds.

Spyder Performance are cheaper for just the crossover pipe repair kit and looking at the genuine stuff it can't be much different in quality. To DIY the job it's probably £300 they don't stock or supply the other pipes I needed.

Apparently it's uncommon for the pipes to fail where mine did I've circled them on this image.

  • 2 months later...

Prices vary because of what was done.

There are the cross over pipes, plastic junctions, long coolant pipes,,various front hoses plus others.

It all depends on what the mechanic deems necessary, (or what he is prepared to do).

I did all mine at the same time, cost of parts was over 1K iirc. Not cheap but piece of mind especially when you see the corrosion on the parts!

BTW, dropping the subframe at a garage is a 10 min job. Bolts whizzed out and lower 6” using a transmission jack. Don’t be sucked in for extra costs, it isn’t a big deal.
