    Ok, good to know!

Maybe speak to an OPC parts dept , with your vin and ask what the part number and cost is re exchange/new boxes (there are variable part numbers re differential).

If you post the part numbers on the thread the hive mind can help source one , if that’s what it comes down to…

    Good luck getting it sorted.

Don't think exchanges are available. I'm thinking of 15k plus fitting plus clutch. The car might even be an economic write off. What's a 2016 718S worth? 25k?

I have been in touch with a UK company called ASR Repairs who offer gearbox repairs. Trouble is, you lot have no idea how the 2016 referendum decision has made getting goods moved between NI and the UK so difficult despite what everyone says. I recently bought a load of machinery from Axminster and had to get EORI, XI EORI and TSS numbers before a carrier would accept the delivery. Might be a similar situation getting a gearbox to and from UK. Plus I'd imagine it would be heavy which = expensive.

I will be leaving the car into Porsche Belfast this evening and hopefully they will find a diagnostic slot over the next week or so.

There are part numbers for exchange manual boxes so I think that option exists.

Most of you guys are in ICT. Ours would tell us of all the high-ranking staff members who shouted loudest to have the latest, fastest computer, and then sat there 2-finger typing their emails.

Surely top of the pile types would have other people writing their emails for them...

Gulp. and that was at least a year ago if I recall your posting. Plus a new clutch (obviously) and the labour. Looks like it's going to be an expensive job. shyate.

So ballpark £5K for an exchange and £9K for a new manual one.

    Plus the labour to fit.

It's a manual. Don't suppose an exchange is an option!

From what I have read online, it's a replacement. I didn't opt for extended warranty given the low mileage, the need for OPC servicing (100 miles round trip plus a day hanging about) and the fact that my 986 was bulletproof.

Yes, I read that thread plus a few others. I don't suppose they will have exchange units available like the mass manufacturers often do.

What model year is the car ?

    - is the code tied to the VIN and it remembers it?

Yes CDR23 needs coding to a car using PIWIS if moved to another car.

We carry this type of kit in all our cars and have used it twice over the last five years with great success to repair nail/screw straight through the tread slow punctures. Mine also contains a tube of "rubber solution" similar to a bike puncture repair kit. They are only supposed to get you home but...

Yup I mentally treat this as "break glass" to get me out of a hole (ahem) and to the nearest tyre place to deal with the issue.

I had the rear blowing while going out with friends, no gunk could help, since I carry a spare wheel so can help myself out of troubles.

Personal take I'd be calling the AA/RAC/Porsche Assist/GreenFlag etc at that point.

I dislike the gunk approach but would use it if I have to.

I went for a 2nd hand Porsche scissor jack and the tyre plug approach if I can/have to self-heal it.

This morning I when I pressed the window switch I got the familiar crunching noise of a window regulator giving up the ghost. I have changed these myself 3 times on the 986S I had. I learned that its not worth buying pattern parts as they do not last and often the window drop is not correct on them either.

Thought I would ask a couple of Porsche "Specialists" that are local for quotes.

Now, the Regulator from Porsche is £291 inc vat which of course means D911 quote that amount plus vat 😆

The first Specialist quoted me £503 all in.. the job itself is about an hour. One big difference between the 986 and the 987 is there is no membrane that you need to replace anymore. Porsche replaced it with an reusable aluminium panel that is held in with 8 screws. I had a look at a couple of "How to" videos on Youtube and apart from the aluminium panel it seems exactly the same to do as the 986, so I had already decided to do the job myself and save the extra £200.

I got an email back from the other so called "Specialist" telling me they would have to "replace the inner door membrane as it works out more cost effective than to clean and reseal the old one" and the total cost all in would be £763.39 for them to do the job. I did send a reply saying that it was strange they were quoting for a membrane when there is not one to replace 😆

    That is special.

Several have said that remaps are not to increase peak power figures but to get a smoother delivery curve with no flat spots.

    Stick a turbo on it.....runs...
