My cars booked in at the OPC on Tuesday for an MOT and to have the auto wiper activated. They rang me this morning to tell me that if I want that activated I’ll need a new wiper stalk, rain sensor module on the windscreen and an activation code and something else. I said that as far as I’m aware all 718’s have the hardware installed at the factory and the activation is a simple PWIS coding. Are they clueless or correct? I’m more inclined to listen to the knowledgeable people on here than main dealers.
All 718's have the hardware already.
It's a coding option in PIWIS.

5 speed manual ?
Item 4 on the gearbox.

Thanks! My thoughts also.
But how do I go about doing so?
All roads lead to get the car in front of someone with Porsche PIWIS to diagnose and if required re-code/do the handover.
Porsche Centre Aberdeen will be able to do that if you have no Indys near you with PIWIS.

I want mine to sound like this...every time it did a lap it made me giggle, in a good way.

Just checked... it does indeed light up when in use.

that's really not much help unless you have the official install kit.
Was hoping it bight give a clue to an easy wiring hack.
If you want to find the ashtray cheap on ebay - also search for the centre consoles - they are F'ing hard/stiff to remove so many sell them still sat in the plastic cage. 😉
That is the fitting kit with wiring harness.
From the installation instructions you can see the parts inventory provided with the part number.
There's a couple of different variants on the part numbers depending on whether the car has the Connect option or not.

Ahh I have never used it, will check later to see if it lights up at night while in use
There you go, that's what I meant by (hidden) feature.
Should also light up in daylight (when in use/paused).
Enjoy.

So @Bike Loon has another feature on his car
-
I thought it illuminated when engaged and is independent of the car lighting setting ?

thanks to the new flat rate starting from 2017
From 1st April 2017, as per @moonshine's link.

For anyone interested in adding the smoker's package to their car for another 12v outlet.
The main "how to" although there are also references to the PDK/Manual gear shifter and a bit of fiddling there.
It also needs coding with PIWIS.

Did a bit more fettling on the spare exhaust silencers I acquired and unseized the bolts on an exhaust clamp.

Now I remember, I had to push the center pins through to release the fixings so new ones required! If I haven’t got the right size in stock, I suppose the only place is a Porsche dealership unless you know the size so I can source them elsewhere?
Personally I use Porsche dealer parts depts for this kind of thing and some of them will post small parts. They are often the cheapest too, no middle person, no added charges. YMMV.

Didn’t know titanium was a thing , learn something new etc

PADM - within 3 days of getting the car. Touch wood, no further issues. Kept up with the warranty and will probably renew it when the time comes just for comfort.
Ouch ! Welcome to the forum

The badges were silver on both my "regular" 987s which were Atlas Grey/Black cars. I think it's more your exterior car colour matches the badge
Black Edition cars have Black badges, have also seen black badges available separately.

@Harry j
Is your vehicle fitted with an aftermarket stereo?

I could indeed, Graham. Especially as the 987 is still under the cover!
With this weather, that is exactly where it is going to stay.
A pair of used 987 seats on eBay seems to be a minimum of 1500 pounds! Add that to the immobilizer and associated costs. It’s starting to get a bit silly!
What is the story re the immobiliser now ? How's it getting fixed and how much ?

Sounds to me like "you have a slight leak in the exhaust, ok to drive until you can get it fixed".
Could be...

Catalytic conversion
NOTE
The catalytic converter monitor compares the amplitude of the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter with the amplitude of a computed limit catalytic
converter during defined air gulping and enrichment phases. The amplitudes allow conclusions to be drawn about the ability of the catalytic converter to
store oxygen.
Diagnostic conditions
Engine start temperature > -15°C (5 °F)
Catalytic converter temperature 385 .... 635°C (725-1175 °F)
Loading of activated charcoal filter < 8
Oxygen sensing in front of catalytic converter active
Oxygen sensors behind catalytic converter ready for operation
50 seconds (cumulative) within following load/rpm range
Engine speed 1280 .... 2880 rpm
Engine load (relative filling) 22 .... 41%
No fault oxygen sensors, tank vent, secondary-air pump relay, secondary-air valve relay, throttle adjusting unit, mass air flow sensor, no misfire.
The diagnostic conditions can also be established using the PIWIS Tester via the short test "Catalytic conversion". It is not necessary to have the
vehicle in motion for this.
Possible fault causes
Oxygen sensors in front of and behind catalytic converter swapped (position in exhaust assembly)
Valve lift error
Aged oxygen sensor behind catalytic converter
Catalytic converter faulty (pre-catalytic conversion rate too low)
If an aged oxygen sensor (oxygen sensor signal behind catalytic converter, dynamism) is detected together with this fault: remedy the fault "Oxygen sensor signal behind catalytic converter, dynamism" first, then check if this fault - catalytic conversion - has been entered again.

One factor, altered valve timing for more torque/power output...
There are different engine type codes across the model years, see the engine type date below.
Googling the engine codes may provide further info...
