    Hi

Made up and fitted a new hood rope, fitted spoiler, put rear carpets back in, tightened up a few bolts, got steering wheel totally straight, checked toe settings with trackrite, fitted front numberplate, drove car!

By the way, these are the rear parking sensors integrated into the numberplate holder. Or at least it would be a picture of, but I have used up all of my quota.

Use Imgur or similar hosting site and then paste the sharing link for forums into your posts and magically pictures will appear as amny ad as often you you want, you just have to upload them to a private post on the image sharing site.....  I got caught out be the low direct hosting data allowance on the forum when I first started.

  2. Took mine for a solo spin this evening and noticed something nice.  When I did my alternator replacement a couple of weeks ago I used Gummi Pflege on the top cover and bulkhead cover seals to the engine bay when I refitted them.  This has eliminated some background noise in the way of minor squeaks and rattles.  Worth doing when you do other seals too.

Thanks Matthew. It took longer than I'd have liked as the top nuts were seized and had to be persuaded loose with a cutting disc.

I'm hoping the rears don't put up as much of a fight. Wishful thinking? 🙄

Top nuts are tough, but they are distorted not round like K nuts so they don't come lose.  Took a 450Nm impact wrench and tightly clamped grips on the top of the damper piston to get mine off, and then on again to the correct torque even after copious Plusgas and freeze release cycles.

It was my first job on the car, I’m glad I started with such an easy, and relatively cheap one. I actually have to push the boot down now rather than let it fall under its own steam!

Nice when the bonnet rises under its own 'power' too once you've lifted it the first few inches.

Something I must get round to doing vothe front and rear, but I'm fed up of spending money on it so maybe in a month or when my head hurts to much.

I'm going through one of those phases with mine too.  Fortunately I did the front and rear struts last year before other thing started failing...

I fitted the Zunsport grilles, love the look although i did make me think 2 things,

    1. £100 for 2 bits of chicken wire in a frame powder coated?!

    2. Why did Porsche not fit these as standard? the standard 'slats' are clearly too small allowing stones in to damage things!

I am pleased though with the look, and the added protection!

I tried to post a picture but it says the maximum is 10kb, and the photo is rubbish!

Use Imgur or similar site and then get the forum link and paste it here to import the image, no size limit.

also for mesh: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Aluminium-Racing-Grille-Net-Vent-Race-Car-Tuning-25x100cm-Mesh-3-5x5mm/121768076226?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 needs a bit of fabrication but way cheaper than Zunsport and you can fix it behind the slats...

Talk about a minefield.... Each side has 34 different part numbers !! Mainly down to colour / aluminum inserts / leather covered etc etc ..

Only thing I can see is theres a code saying d >>MJ1999 Has holes and d>>MJ2000 doesnt have them... means absolutley nothing to me

MJ, German for model year.  Model Jahr

Looking at the pdf catalogue I have there are part numbers for up to 99, for 99 only, for 00 on and then for 01 on.  up to 00 they were back/grey, after that the interior colour options come in along with leather in those colours too.  The centre cup holder came in for the 03 face lift so some 01 and all 02 cars would not have the holes I guess.

The cars never had centre cup holders either.

Previous owner hadn’t removed the outside ones either according to my Porsche log in , they were always without holes on my chassis number.

its a bit overcast today so I may make it a mission to find out why

Intriguing.  Mine is also a 3.2 S 2000 MY (built Feb 2000) and it has the holes to which I fit cup holders....

  9. 53 minutes ago, dunks said:

Yep... strange the did with or without , surely even Porsche wouldn’t have them as an optional extra, as the cars a MY2000 can’t even say its an early one and they changed the spec later

The holes appear to have been deleted when the cupholders were fitted to the centre of the dash with the face lift. I wonder if a PO changed them to get rid of the holes, a change you have now reversed.

  10. Looks vs geometry.

Geometry - I don't know if it was my references to suspension and track some months ago. However if you widen the track with spacers or wheel offset you move the contact patch of the tyre, the effective distance at which the forces act, so you do slightly reduce the roll stiffness and the effective applied load.  At the front you also move the contact patch further from the centre of the virtual castor pivot which will add a little more scrub.  The effects of all of this can also be generated by different wheel offsets, I don't know what the 550 and GT3 are fitted with vs the 'standard' cars but I'd be pretty sure Porsche didn't do something to compromise them.....  Wider track would often go with a stiffer ARB and possibly increased spring rate to counter the longer effective distance.  That said in a road tuned car for the vast majority of drivers it would be undetectable as you are not consistently near the limit as you may be in a track focused car on a circuit.  There are quite small margins here.

Looks - Great unless you go too far and there is a personal view on this, I like wheels slightly in the wheel arch but as much as standard, others like a flush look.

    Hi

Got one bought 2 weeks ago.

Tracked round Goodwood 1 week ago.

Just made this for it, for hopefully a Road/MTB Euro hoon in September.   Works with roof up and down.   Front wheel in frunk with spare relocated to boot.

Neat solution, but remember some of those panels are ali not steel.

OK, so new poly V belts are a b*itch to fit...  also working an step son's car (Mk1 Focus with cooling problems) at the same time so not fired the Boxster up with the new belt and alternator yet.  Tomorrow may be.

Fired up first time.  Phew!  Got to check voltage at battery when running but should be OK as not battery light, all being well covers going back on tomorrow and take it for a spin.

Wasted some time on a little project , I sprayed the handbrake shroud so that it matched the centre console  , pleased with the way it turned out

Time well spent I'd say, not wasted.  Looks like a great finish, I limit my painting skills to hidden items and brake calipers as I don't want to foul up on anything that visible.

  14. Finally removed the alternator after it stranded me on Monday.  The back bush on the idler bolt moved first strike this morning so the Plusgas soakings on Monday and Tuesday were obviously effective, eventually.  Removed the old poly V belt ready for the new one to go in when I put the alternator on.

Only question is to find out how to test and only replace the regulator on the existing alternator or go for a compete replacement unit.  Anyone know how to do such a test?

    Hi

I think if they have never been out before then by now there is a good chance they will not be coming out easily. They are a bit after their best before date after 20 or so years anyways.

    All the best

    Berni

I know from the history and recent front suspension work that one has been done, popped out no problem and one has not.  For the work I was doing I could just disconnected at the ARB end instead but really does need to be done.  I'll now wait 'til I bite the bullet and do the coffin arms....
