So can someone kindly tell me which Michelin I need and ones which ensure I still keep my warranty. I have 20 inch wheels and want to order new tyres front and back. They have given me 20K miles and still have 2k left on them (Pirelli’s)

If you are referring to a Porsche provided warranty then I would recommend you ask an Official Porsche Centre to tell you what's acceptable for your car.

Ask them for a detailed quote and take the tyre info on that to the web or your local tyre place to find the market price for warranty compatible tyres for your specific car.

In the past OPCs have been known to price match on tyres....

That's great, thank you.  It's quite a good price too 👍

It’s worth having a search for similar vinyls - this was the first I found and I know the early Porsche cognoscenti have strong views on which is best. I recall some mentions of Marshall Amp “Elephant Hide” vinyl being considered a good option.

I lost my pop up garage and cover in one night!   Bit of a shock when I went to go to work this morning, I thought, oh no, the covers blown off the car, hang on, wheres the feking garage!

Now to find a new car cover, I am not a happy person today.

Hopefully no damage other than the loss of your cover and garage 👍

received the above vinyl, but to be honest in the flesh it's not as I had hoped.  I've ordered some other with a better pattern and foam backed which should be a bit more tactical.

If your replacement vinyl doesn't suit a number of the early 911 guys use something like this:

It may not be what you’re looking for but I thought it might be useful.

Very good and interesting info, thank you.

Do you know what is the spring values on your setup front and rear lb/in OR kg/mm?

I have 2011 Boxster that I do track a lot, but drive on street as well and am looking for a spring strenght to select for a new set of coilovers to be installed over the winther.

This guy - long since left the forum and UK did some research on 987 suspension - I can’t comment on the outcome, never saw the car, but it might be useful.

Link below takes you directly to the relevant part of his thread:

Correct - The locking pin that the red handle moves is not releasing from the car (the handle itself is moving freely)

Never had this experience with mine but it sounds like the fitting that the locking pin engages with is now “fixed” to the pin itself.

Have you tried to lift the roof off? You might night to lift it much higher to pull the fitting out with the pin.

Would be worth a closer look st a parts assembly drawing to see if that’s even possible.

Has anyone got any experience of upgrading their suspension using coilovers?

Yes - a few of us have.  Lots of stuff on forums, YouTube and the like - much of that is (in my experience) not that helpful.

I have KW Motorsport units installed and really rate them - that said these aren't "off the shelf" so not available "retail"

There are some good brands out there but the challenge is finding a set that haven't been tuned for track use.  Fit something like that and you'll end up with a 986 that loses almost all its B road fluidity.

Unless you've got previous experience with this sort of suspension I suggest you take a look at this thread about 986 coilover setup - it's a bit of a read but worth persevering with:

On the other hand a few folk on here have swerved coilovers and had good results with a Koni damper & "sport springs".  As far as I remember the most recent forumite to fit them was @K.I.T.T. - they'll see this and might add their experience.  Quite a few others have used them too but I cannot recall their tags right now.

At the end of the day the question that wants answering is what is your goal in replacing the springs and dampers?  If we know that then there's a lot of real world experience on this forum that you can draw on.

you've got about 7 litres already so how much extra does a deep sump take??

My 986 LN Engineering deep sump adds 2.27litres of oil capacity to the system.

It’s also got a windage tray along 997 pickups and the like.

Was not a fan of the badge colour combos at all, its like they didn't even consider what colours old Porsches are and have tried to match GT3s or something.

The colour-ways are based on heritage liveries from Porsche's competition car history.  That said i agree some (none) of these don't work well with the Boxster's typical palette.

good write up, might well use it in the future

Thank you - appreciate you making time to say so.

The images are jpegs of A4 sheets so they should print well for those who like me prefer something that’s “always on” when you need to refer to it.

  11. If you're going to use this How To then do so as a "grown up" - that is look after your safety and more importantly the safety of others.

You may want to disconnect your battery.

You should make sure the car cannot unintentionally move whilst you're working on it or leaving it incomplete.

You should validate all torque setting for yourself.

If you feel as though you've gone astray then stop, walk away, have a mug of brutally strong engineer's tea with two shortbread biscuits, and go back to it.  If it still doesn't feel right then stop and ask someone for help.

I’ve done it twice this year which helps.

change of topic as someone who might be looking at this thread might know.

I can get my hands on a very cheap 3.2 Boxster tiptronic with a low mileage engine but tatty body.

Very vague thoughts on using it as a track day car. I would much prefer a manual but was quite impressed at how quick it was on the road.

If this was used on the track, driven quite hard, would it die quickly?

    Mileage is 50K.

    @Araf…….

  13. Progressed a single DIN CarPlay install. It isn’t the Porsche headunit so I’m going to hang fire on sharing too much more until I’ve got some seat time with it. Initial impressions are favourable.

As part of my assessment of the progress made I went out for a pootle - I’d forgotten just how rowdy the car is having only commuted across Hull in it over the last couple of weeks.

It really is boisterous - and great fun - so much overtaking punch which makes Sunday afternoon pottering a pleasure.

    Hi mate,

It's this one, with the reversing camera

    SPH-DA130DAB

Installed one of these. There’s an adapter cable supplied with the headunit that converts the DIN power and speaker blocks to a single connector at the headunit.

Assuming whoever installed it used this your factory loom and black/brown DIN blocks should be intact.  You will need to provide this adapter cable if you opt to sell the DA130.

The Continental should just plug into the black and brown DiN loom blocks but it would be worth checking that the pin mapping between the loom and Continental unit.
