The part that you need isn't available separately from Porsche, who'll sell you a whole assembly for £££.

It is available from BMW though - part number 61674290868. £20ish.

Thanks both - ordered - am fed up of running out of water for the windscreen when the lamp washers drain the tank.

Got a list of niggly jobs to sort on the 986 and this one will get a line drawn through it in the next few weeks.

    👍

Might have to arrange a evening at the Motorist with @mapto see it and catch up at some stage.

Like the sound of that - work is starting to smooth out so up for a meet sometime.

Looks a bit posh for Us lot - well me anyway.

It's not like that - have been a couple of times and it's a good place to see a variety of motor based stuff.  There isn't the same level of clique mentality I've seen elsewhere.

@ATM echoing what has been said previously: this is an amazing colour choice - it looks fantastic.

I keep kicking around a colour change for mine but there are so many "go better goodies" for my 986 that the spend would cover.

More pictures as and when please.

Can a Tip engine be used in a manual car, (thinking possible different crank ends)? Thoughts are if this is possible, swap engines and break 05 car...

Important thing is that the two engines are the same type - I think it’ll be M96.25 that way the Engine Management should be happy with whatever it’s running.

AFAIK there’s no mechanical difference between a Tip and Manual engine. The Tip ECU looks for Park to be selected before allowing the engine to crank and the like. So it should - provided the engines are the same type - be a simple engine swap. Using the recipient car’s ECU also swerves a load of other electronic mismatches like immobiliser, alarm and traction control for example.

  5. The cost of rebuild parts (gaskets, single use fasteners and the like) is significant - and that's before the crank needs replacing or a couple of valves are bent or a piston is mashed or the oil pump has failed or, or, or any other similar mechanical damage which needs rectifying.

If it's seized you will quite probably have metal fragments in the oil galleries and possibly the water jacket too.  From personal experience this can lead to a very short-term fix.

Personally I'd go with this suggestion:

You might be better served getting a replacement motor form a salvage specialist.  From a quick search I believe this is a match and pretty much identical mileage: Porsche 987 Boxster 2.7 Engine M96.25 Engine 66K Miles Boxster 987 2.7 Engine | eBay

If you go for the replacement motor option then it would be interesting to strip the current engine and see what's gone on - it might just be a simple fix - bolting it all back together will still leave you with a chunky parts bill.  From my own running report:

In terms of standard costs - I went back to my build info and for some perspective the cost of parts just to put an engine back together specifically: various bearing shells, cylinder head bolts, engine gasket sets and the like cost around £700 from an OPC.  This figure excludes piston rings and the like that might reasonably be added to a standard refresh rebuild.

So a rebuild without changing any original engine parts aside from those assembly components "lost" as part of the strip down is circa £1000.  Plus labour.

Between the members on this forum we have the special tools needed for a rebuild - I would be happy to loan you what I have if you get to that stage.

See the black round the windscreen?

    I'm having black mirrors too.

Hadn’t registered the screen surround - it just looks right.

Goes and looks at own Boxster parked outside and 🤔

Thanks both, next weeks job sorted 😄

im hoping having litronic lights makes no difference.

Litronics have two connectors - one mounted on the tray/lamp the other is a loose connector.

If you don’t connect both you lose the auto levelling feature which means very poor illumination of the road.

possibly, I'll probably just settle for re polishing them every couple of years.  I have to sell a kydney next for the clutch though which I had budgeted for when buying the car but I never considered the flywheel which most people are recommending too

Maybe budget for the flywheel but be absolutely certain it actually need changing before commissioning that piece of work.  So many folk end up following an expensive "whilst you're in there" - "you don't want to be spending to open it up again" path to maintenance on these cars.  I am not sure how often that creates a realised saving for them - the next owner maybe....

I’m currently in the middle of fitting PCCM Plus to mine .

Fortunately I have access to the workshop info but it’s a bit of a challenge .

Am interested to see how you get on with this. Photos and the like of installs and upgrades always welcome on this forum.

Just parked it on a DFDS ferry from Dover to Calais. Switching Litetronic lights to right hand running is a pain...

Always do this before leaving home. I can cope with the lights “centred” in the dark in the UK and the one experience I had of switching them over was stressful enough on the EuroTunnel….

I got 10% off with a discount code by registering with their website, so £27.00 instead of £29.99.  Still quite expensive for a phone holder I guess, but easily the best looking solution I've seen, so who cares?

…and that folks is the definition of value
