I tried numerous insurances this year and ended up with the RAC as the cheapest

have you tried "shipping" pilot ( ie as in boats) since you ship goods ?

or

air technician/ engineer?

or

"lucky barsteward!" :laughingsmiley:

Give the RAC a call

Cheers will do, ha ha

Still got a few days to track down a decent insurance price

I just got my renewal through. Boxster S

£408 fully comp - with 6 points still on licence 12,000 miles a year, parked on driveway I am a bit of an old b*gger though at 53!

Nearly forgot to say - it's with Esure

Can't actually recall what it was last year

Looks like you've done all the right things. I went through Confused.com and I will do again rather than simply renew - I've got until the end of the month.

Martin's money saving expert is good for tips and has (or at least it had - not checked recently) a tool to let you test the effect of job title changes so you can experiment a bit.

Hope you get something sorted?

That's a good price given your details

Will give them a call direct, cheers

Had a look this evening when Purdie posted the link, made little difference to tell you the truth, tried delivery driver, freight forwarder,

Hope you get something sorted?

Cheers mate :rocks:

Don't forget to buy through Quidco, usually good for £50-£60 cashback.

http://www.quidco.com/insurance-finance/insurance/motor/

I usually get quotes from the big comparison sites, note down the 6 best contenders, factor in the Quidco cashback then buy via the Quidco site.

CCI (Competition Car Insurance) are also worth calling as mentioned earlier, great service and extremely competitive.

Hi Neil

I have spoken to CCI and their cover seems quite good in compared to most other quotes to date and includes 5 track days

Their quote was £473 with legal cover an extra £18

Best so far I think given the track day cover so far :thumbsup_anim:

As Purdsie said and as you have now found out for yourself, you REALLY need to get insurance for these cars by phone. On-line quotes are useless most of the time. You need the personal touch from specialists brokers. Heritage is another one of the specialists that are worth a try (mine was £375 for 10,000 miles, breakdown and legal cover).

Oh...and expect next year for it to go up again.....just ring them back and say it's too much and what can then do? I did this last time and they came back with a price cheaper than the previous year! Goodness knows why they didn't just offer it in the first place!

Have you tried Bridle, the forum sponsor?

You just reminded me :thumbsup_anim:

Did try the website yesterday but they don't seem to do internet quotes so, I have just called them and spoke to Dan, gave hbim my best price so far and due to call him back later in your afternoon :speak_cool:

We shall see if they can provide a good policy price

Well spoke to Bridle and the quote was sort of comparable but price was a little higher than CCI at £510 with £750 excess !!!

Though i was assured that I could take the car anywhere I like for repair in case of an accident :shiftyeyes_anim: amongst many other quotes a good salesman would give.

I am swaying more towards CCI but need to clarify some points in their insurance cover!

So,

20 years driving, Advanced Driver Certificated Qualifications, No Claims, Full NCD, Limited Mileage (3k/yr), No Commuting, Garaged, Alarmed, Not exactly high value car! Good Neighbourhood, (can't comment on surrounding ones though)

Best Price £473 with £500 excess through CCI

Still seems steep to me, what do you guys think? :sad01_anim:

May be steep but if it's the best you can get what option do you have

You have to put up with the loading the insurers give you due to your occupation and I don't see what you can do about that.

How does his job have a negative effect on the insurance loading? I know that there is a loading for those in the licensed restaurant trade (for example) but don't see why being a pilot should lead to any risk of driving a car.

I can't remember what car you have R1 but if it's a 986, that's an OK price. 987 were consistently £100 less due to better security and possibly std PSM. This would then be consistent with the £375 I am paying, although my mileage is 5,000.

Now you've set out your "credentials" and its only for 3k miles coverage that does seem steep. I have 10+ years on you, no ADC, 6k/yr, £200 excess, parked on road and it's a baby box. I pay IIRC £270ish. Used Tesco's comparison site.

Fortunately you're not old enough to be eligible for a quote from SAGA (but your time will come!) :vsadv: (I would have added an old git emoticon here but we don't seem to have one)

I'm not sure if R1 has had this confirmed but I mentioned it earlier on a as a possibility.

If it is confirmed don't ask me the logic - other than certain professions have a higher than average claim rate and therefore are loaded against.

Probably because if they have to ring him on the other side of the world, it costs them an arm and a leg! :woot:

Do you think they would phone

I wonder how all those holiday makers felt when they returned to Stanstead recently to find all their cars burnt out :crying_anim:

On speaking to one insurance broker they said, it might be because they think the car will be parked in a car park in the open at the airport for long periods of time, therefor prone to damage, theft, etc

Doesn't ring to true if you have a NO Commuting Clause now :rolleyes_anim:

Oh well, I shall just see over the next week what happens and at £473 or £510, it's still slightly less than last year, but no where near some of our other members who have posted.

Serves you right for declaring the optional extras, you know, like a CD holder

I didn't disclose that, do you think it will void my Policy :rolleyes_anim:

I have a large contingent of my family in Eire and they seem to suffer the same fate with car Insurance premiums

As stated earlier - renewal just in at £408 with Esure - about the same as last year. excess £750

2001 Boxster S, 12K miles pa, including commuting and 2K business miles, parked on driveway, location near Edinburgh

Driver aged 53, 8yrs no claims bonus, 6 points, 1 (no fault) claim 2006

I didn't ask for legal cover or breakdown - I use GEM (good prices and service - and provide legal cover and accident management).

Spend a couple of hours last night working through the comparison sites - Esure consistently best or close.

Looked at my mileage and realised I only do 8K miles a year so adjusted down to 10K for insurance (to allow a bit of a margin)

Got the best from Esure down to £372 with £750 excess

Got one through moneyexpert.com at £352 with £520 excess from ibuyeco (with Aviva) plus there is a £25 moneyexpert cashback reducing the effective cost to £327. They (ibuyeco) called me today to see if I wanted to go ahed but I said I would look a bit yet as I have some time and they siad they will call me back later in the month and might be able to knock abit of their own administration charges.....

I also found that if I go through Quidco I can get £60 back if I insure through Esure - so I will have a look at that (need to get a fresh quote to do that) = I might be able to get insurance for £372 less £60=£317. Never used Quidco before but looks a good idea.

I have found good results through internet sites - not sure if the personal touch is really necessary in my case? Maybe it's all you guys living in big Cities that affects your insurance. Mine seems pretty good by comparison - and set to be better.

I would certainly recommend working through the suggestions on moneysaving expert.com

Graham

Not as likely to void your policy as fitting non N rated tyres mate :chuckle: Or indeed as likely to void your bowels by getting a puncture repaired in my local

Is that like a really fat auntie or are there lots of them

And how many fekkin times,,,,I'M BRITISH :cowboy:
