Earlier models only drop the window, they don't go back up after closing the roof. Not sure when that changed

OK, thanks Steve.  Guess its always been like that.  Mrs @½cwt's Golf cabrio and  her 2 Eos before that did close them so I guessing I'm getting confused in my old age.

Well my 2.7 is a 2000 MY 2001 and they do close when I close the roof so it must have changed then.👍

Replaced my cabin side vents, both were fecked, you couldn't direct the air as the vents mechanism seem to have collapsed, bought, what looks to be a brand new set from @map and just installed them this evening.

The passenger side was a doddle but the drivers side was a little more complicated due to the wiring harness for the lights etc, so over engineered, bot on  now and looks OEM fresh and new.

Nice way to spend a Monday evening

Broke down in it....   (no not crying before everyone start no that one)

Seems a slam dunk regulator failure on the alternator, no voltage change at battery when engine is running.  Just didn't have enough battery to get me home having had ABS, then ABS & Battery warning flashing together sporadically.  Stopped to pick up some parts, ironically at my local OPC, and then got ABS and air bag (but no battery) warning plus fan and radio cut outs.  I gave up when the alarm started sounding whilst I was driving due tot eh voltage drop I imagine.  AA got me going again, only about a 20 minute wait so quite happy there plus it was a sunny day on a country lane so quite a pleasant location to break down, my luck would usually be in the pi**ing rain on a motorway.  Now to remove the alternator and get it to my local auto electrics/Bosch alternator specialist for repair....

Last time I went to my OPC my MAF failed, conspiracy theory anyone?

At least it was a simple fix.

I'll let you know once I've got the alternator out...!  But yes, I got home with only a small inconvenience.

My driver's side vent had partially collapsed. I was able to reassemble it with a pair of long nose pliers through the vent. The vertical and horizontal vanes clip together. My guess is air freshers or phone holders clipped to the vents cause the problem.

Did you find all the pieces? If so you might be able to reassemble them and sell them on?

All pieces look in tacked, so might stick them on eBay, good idea

Hi

Put the starter back in, plus throttle body and connected everything up. One question, does anyone know exactly where the vacuum from the water valve on the tip box goes on a 2003 facelift car? Is it to the Vacuum solenoid? I think it must be. Fitted the trans mounts yesterday (quite a fight), and then took them off this evening and did this:

The standard mounts are quite compliant. Not so much now I think. The urethane is 65A hardness which is pretty hard.

All the best

Yep, long nose pliers and a small Allen key to help put behind the vertical strip to make sure the horizontals all clip back in one at a time.  Fiddly rather than difficult.

I've been doing alsorts of things to my 2000 986 S  why the lockdown has been on, Today i fitted a new Fuel Tank Bleeder Valve , It was a bit of a fiddle but not to bad, I was getting the blowing sound coming from the front near the filler door so fitted a new fuel cap but was still getting the sound, Sounds a bit like a tiny fog horn!  So it had to be the Valve unit itself, Found a new unit on ebay that was 'New old stock' for half the price of one on the porsche websites ,  Fitted & no fog horn, Sorted. :D

Hi

Been busy also, filled up with oil (9.5l), rigged the electronics back up, got the cats back on (no rear box) started the car, drained the coolant and removed the engine mount,

Yesterday I broke the plastic ball joint connector on the Tiptronic linkage (ugh!!!!!!) so attempted a JB weld repair. I realllllyyyy hope it works. Also did up the drive shafts this morning, but have not torqued them yet.

Great to hear the engine again.

I did this nice little fix during my lunch break today and was amazed it only took me about 3mins! This has annoyed me ever since I bought the car and I always assumed it would need a replacement vent. I only needed to use a pair of small, long nosed pliers. 1st pic is before, 2nd and 3rd are after (yes, I will be cleaning the dust off later 😁).

Satisfying cheap fix on a Porsche 😉  Just a matter of knowhow!

Hi

Torqued up the driveshafts, clipped on my repaired Tip linkage (test tomorrow fingers crossed). Received my window regulator repair kit, but have been sent one for a 987 doh!

Removed a front calliper, thankfully without snapping a bolt, as usual the top one came out perfectly, and the lower one with a bit of a fight. Will use the tap to clean the threads and replace the lower bolt. Also freed off the front strut (changing them and the coffin) but the drop link pinch bolt is seized solid. I had to destroy one of the rear ones, but I will take the strut off tomorrow and put it on my 12t press and see if the bolt wants to come out. Save a drop link and a hacksaw blade.

You were lucky, mine were completely fecked, so had to replace with new ones, bit of a pain doing the drivers side due to the electronics so you dodged a bullet there.

Just replaced my mirror unit on both sun visors as flaps were missing, there was no way of getting the old ones out without cracking the mirrors, so Im glad I bought the complete unit.

Lockdown has slowed the move from Winter to Rest of Year Config.

After removing the RTS and skis then the hardtop at the start of Lockdown the only thing left to swap was my knob:

Winter:

Rest of Year:

This doesn’t turn into a “Trial by Ordeal” when the sun’s been on it for a while.

That and the nod to the 917 makes it a worthwhile tweak.
