Would you trust Kwik Fit to replace shocks?

agreed.

4 hours for the lot is competitive, any more is reasonable but you are not being done any favours.

4 hours'' just'' for fronts seems a bit excessive to me, I could probably do it myself in that time, on axle stands with hand tools on the drive, give me a hoist, and air tools and maybe a few hundred times of doing it under my belt its an hour and a half a side tops.

I have done front arms /springs and shocks in a morning before on the drive for perspective..on an alfa 916, but I reckon thats way more difficult than a RWD Porsche.

I stand by my original assertion that it doesn't need to be a Porsche specialist, just an indie that is competent and honest.

this kind of stuff is bread and butter for a decent mechanic along with servicing and brakes.

Horsham is not far from me , so your clearly not a million miles away from Guildford.

Try on the the road car care in Cherstey, Very good guys with reasonable rates, Lee recently helped me diagnose my issue with my 986 after several ''Porsche specialists'' couldn't even hazard a guess as to what was wrong, I've seen a few mechanics in my time, and in my opinion these guys are very good and no strangers to prestige marques, they had a Ferrari in when I arrived with my Box.

I'm sure even if they quote the same hours, it will be less than the Porsche guys as they base their rates on being competitive when compared to Porsche main dealers, and yes they may well be, but when compared to a ''normal'' indie most porsche specialsist are VERY expensive...like £75 per hour or  more.

ridiculous...byt the time you have added parts and VAT that could end up being £150 for an oil change...

I'll keep my pants on and won't be bending over and touching my toes unless i'm paying for servicing something that fly's !! ?

best of luck with it.

Joe

Thanks for the comments, I did think the labour was a bit high but to be honest, I've never attempted this job so wouldn't really know. Based on what has been said I will try GCS Engineering up the road for a quote too and see what comes back. Chertsey's not an easy location for me but thanks for the recommendation.

This is a bit similar to the Halfords free M0T thread.

Halfords sell car parts/accessories. Kwik fit fit tyres. That is their core business.

Would you trust them to do more?

These guys are paid minimum wage and are on bonuses to upsell.

Pay the money once.

Halfords MOT/service centres were previously a different business and rebranded as Halfords. I think it may have been Nationwide Autos or similar.

Actually the labour is for front shocks only but includes doing the top mounts, bearings and bump stops too, they are a Porsche specialist called Adspeed in Horsham and were recommended to me.

I bought my car from Mortimers in Billigshurst - they are a Porsche specialist sales company but they also do service/maintenance work - not sure if they would be better or worse price wise- but I got a good car from them - and their workshop capabilities seem good. Worth a call to ask I suppose.

Not sure I'd bother. I bought my C55 AMG from them. It was overfilled with oil by about 1 litre so I had to extract it myself. I don't think they do their own servicing and it's a garage in the same area that does it for them.

Guess everyone’s mileage varies.

I had a good experience with them. I did see a 911 up on the ramp in their workshop and they serviced my car and set the “service date” so whoever they use (if it’s not in house) has enough Porsche kit/knowledge to do that.

Only suggested them as a possible alternative to the other Indy that was being talked about in the same area.

either way they are probably better than kwikfit for suspension replacement.

Wouldn't trust them to replace my socks...never mind my shocks!

I'll file that with the chap that exclaimed "I wouldn't even put my shopping in a Recaro baby seat."

You've got to be joking! Last time i made the mistake of taking my Jag in for new tyres (as hey had  a good offer on) i looked through the waiting room glass to find some pr*ck smashing the locking wheel nut on with a big hammer! I vowed then never ever to be fooled by a "good offer"

personally i wouldnt trust them to change a light bulb.........

my partner took her car to kwik fit as she had the oil light on and she was worried, when the guy came out he had a look for her and also he couldnt see oil on the dipstick,

he put 1 ltr of oil in the engine and took another look, yet again he still couldnt see oil on the dipstick, he told her to go home and if the oil didnt apear on the dipstick with in 3 days, to come back and they would have to flush the engine.

hahahahahahahahaha,

i took a look and added another ltr of oil and hey presto, oil was showing on the dipstick.

im not sure how by going home and waiting 3 days oil would just reapear on the dipstick.

im sure there is some good machanics working at these places but with people like that working on the front desk, it doesnt look good.

I wouldn’t trust Kwikfit to do anything, as mentioned, it depends on the branch but my wife had a bad experience with one in Bristol where they blatantly damaged items so that it failed the mot, in the hope she would agree to their crazy repair prices!
