Gutley
So here is my engine bay from just after removing the engine cover. Can you spot the problem? (And no, it’s not the dirt) @T24RES is not allowed to say

Gutley
Just to note also, I’ve never been in the engine compartment before, so the mistake was probably one of the ‘specialists’ who have, or even back to the previous owner.

I presume you got the wire connector undone then?
Jason986S
Got it! Coolant bleed valve has been left up/open.

I presume you got the wire connector undone then? I noticed that clip too. No idea if there should be something there, but it’s still not the issue. Yes, the clip eventually broke as I couldn’t get my fingers in past the rock hard plastic surround to grip it properly..after putting it back I don’t think it’ll come loose anyway. Boxob
Apart from anything else the jubilee clip on the induction pipework will be difficult to tighten or slacken should it be necessary! The screw head is obscured.

I suspect it just lets a bit of water vapour out so your coolant level may decrease slowly. I've just had to bleed the system and left the valve ope while going for a spirited drive to me I'll effect.
Gutley
FYI. Here is a nice image of the 987.2 S engine in all its glory: (original here https://www.pca.org/news/2017-12-20/model-guide-987-boxster-matures-cayman-coupe-launches ) Notice that the clip does indeed appear unused here too. Wouldn’t that mean the system isn’t pressurised though and hence the would ‘fail’ above atmospheric boiling point?
Richard Hamilton
On the 996 Cup Cars, they used to have an R clip to keep the valve open all the time. According to this, you might find the heater gets warmer faster:
Gorsh
Good job on the cleaning @Gutley. Do you just spray with degreaser/APC and wipe off - or is it safe to hose it down?
