topradio
My lad wanted to sell his Astra and we took it to WBAC, it grieved me to do it but he hadn't really looked after it very well, it was filthy dirty inside and out with a few dings and needed a pair of tyres & was due an MOT soon, he would have perhaps needed to spend ~£600 to get it to a presentable state and the offer they made was fairly reasonable given the condition. If it had been mine, apart from the fact it wouldn't have been in that state in the first place, I would have done the work and perhaps got £1500 - £2000 more for it privately. I suspect that WBAC are an easy and fairly painless way of getting rid of a scrappy and unloved car, as the eventual trader will spend the time to polish the value back into it. But if you're looking to part with your cherished slightly specialist P&J then you will just feel insulted.

Scubaregs
You can argue with any valuation. I bought a pre reg MR2 roadster from Arnold Clark as they were the only place in Scotland selling them. Negotiated at 6/7 different branches with my own roadster as a trade in. The difference between my local branch and the one I bought from was almost £2000. This was for the exact same car I was buying as they would supply it from any branch. Always negotiate, I got a substantial discount off my unregistered 718.

BTM520
Maybe just didn't want your car at all hence the poor valuation?

I suspect so, but my point was that if that was the case they'd be better just saying so rather than making up a stupid/pointless figure. All it did was make me thing they were taking the p1$$ so I walked away. If they'd been honest and said that my car was not of interest then I'd have respected that (especially as I wasn't even wanting to sell it!). It works both ways, if I made some ridiculous offer for the car they were trying to sell then they'd think I was either not seriously interested (test pilot) or out of my depth (daydreamer). Either way they'd not be giving me much of their time from that point on.

Did run rings round some M3s in the wet at Snett one day... and got round a complete lap of the whole 'Ring in 9:56 in a pretty standard car except for RamAir panel filter and a Scooby Sport back section but still with cat. Might have got a bit of air once 🤔

He said he was quite impressed as he'd never been in a Scooby. Also I reckon it was actually my best ever lap of the 'Ring but I didn't have a watch on it. It certainly felt quicker than the 9:56 lap that was timed.
