Hexamu
I still really like my 987.2s but was thinking of retrofitting the sports exhaust but called one specialist who said it did not make much of a difference on the 987.2 and recommending keeping my money. Has anyone had experience in retrofitting to 987.2 or has driven both it would be great to get your view. The other option would be to sell and buy a 981s - but I quite like the fact the interior of 987.2 looks retro and the care has been perfect without issues since purchased it. thanks in advance
Menoporsche
For some reason the 987.2 has the most expensive refit, a bit over 2k IIRC. I think it’s the same sounds but mathematically not such good value.

I looked into the retrofit about 6 months ago on my then 987.2. It was about £1800 for the parts and I was quoted about £700 labour to fit, at that time....the issue was that the parts were on back-order with no ETA. Hopefully things have now moved on. @Paul P has a 987.2S with PSE and it sounds brilliant. If the parts had been available I would have gone for it. Hexamu
Thanks for the fast replies - was that price from Porsche dealer and with the buttons to activate as I was quoted more? Would also be good to get thoughts and the new tail pipes in kit - do they make a difference or can you use existing?

That was ballpark what I was quoted six months ago re parts from Porsche and the labour fitment from an Indy. The parts were costed with a 10% discount. If I were replacing my exhaust I'd get the new tail twin pipes to finish the job properly (they're a cosmetic touch but look appropriate imho). Shop around OPCs and see what they quote you for supply and fitment, people have found variations in pricing between them historically. Ask for discount, don't ask, don't get etc... Paul P
Definitely noticeable. I love it on my 987.2. Inside and outside the car it’s noticeable Not sure I would replace a perfectly good exhaust for it but as soon as I needed “something” I would go all in But. As above. I have it and I love it. Probably 50/50 on how often I activate it - depends on where I am going and how I feel. I had a 2.9 .2 with standard ex and it was too quiet. The current 3.4 with pse gives me more smiles. Based on tbe build spec of my car - which was pretty well spec’ed as a “showroom car” mine is a retro fit. Only found that out from build spec and option code. It’s a complete factory retro fit. 1
Terryg
Just to give another perspective I will add my 2p's worth. I had a 986S which from standard was too quiet for my liking, so I did the exhaust bypass and eventually manifolds and 200 cell cats. These mods were relatively inexpensive and made a huge difference to the car. I now have a 987S and the car has a lovely induction roar and the exhaust sounds good as the car comes "on cam", to the best of my knowledge there are no modifications to it and it is not PSE. So, I kind of see where the indy is coming from, would I like PSE? Yes. Would I pay £2.5 to £3k for it? No. You pays your money.................. Menoporsche
I think the installation fee involves pulling up the center console to fit the button correctly. If you go for an aftermarket button you might save. Dunno.
Hexamu
Thanks everyone. Head says no - heart says yes. Called dealer and stock is still an issue with customer still waiting after 3 months but they need payment in advance for parts.
iborguk
Another option is go Carnewal. I wanted to go PSE as the car was under Porsche warranty.
Menoporsche
Yup, modified back box of sorts. Half the price. Only you can’t switch it to quiet mode. (Unless Spyder do a valved unit for the 987.2?)

Lonewolfgjp
I had one on my 987.2 and it made a big difference. I never drove without it switched on, sounds nice with a bmc airfilter and de snorkel. I had aftermarket valved exhaust on my 987.1 and it was a improvement over standard but very loud even in quite mode. The factory PSE is a nice balance 👍 Edited October 27, 2022 by Lonewolfgjp
EVO Chris
987.2's have both cats in the manifold 800 cell each side which do not get removed unless you change the manifolds, so a performance exhaust on a 987.2 will be quieter than the 987.1 performance exhaust as they have 1 set of cats 400 cell in the manifold and 1 set 400cell in the exhaust itself, when replacing a pipe on the 987.1 a cat is often removed opening up sound. I have the Carnewal exhaust on my 987.2 which seems in between the PSE open and standard, I replaced my standard manifold for 200 cell cats and manifolds and it was over the top for me so reverted back to the standard manifolds.
Hexamu
Thanks All, it sounds like I will have to skip for now due to stock availability. It also sounds like the benefit will be lower due to the dual cats.
Hexamu
Decided to order after all, fingers crossed delivery is not too long. I was weighing up getting a new boxster but decided I want to keep my 987.2 as it feels more retro in the cabin. Thanks for all the advice. Hexamu
Will let you know on Friday but don’t want the full on holigan noise. Weighing up whether to keep old exhaust and try and sell it? Seems in good condition for it age.
JTBoxster
This was something I was weighing up before the parts became essentially unavailable. Will be interested to hear what you make of it !

I would absolutely keep the old system - it would be attractive for someone wanting a mod done - easy to send a away a decent used system and have that modded. Hope you enjoy the PSE, adds to the smiles.
Hexamu
I am pleased to say the sports exhaust is now fitted. Was a bit hairy this morning as the dealer could not get the old bolts off. It does sound much better - doubt I will turn it off except early mornings.
Andy Mac
Nice @Hexamu I bought a 2.9 987.2 where the owner had just added the PSE retrofit. Sounded fab, poor quality clip below when I was spanking round Anglesey (think I was optimistic naming the clip drift 😂 more like slight twitch coming onto the start / finish)… Enjoy yours - great addition 👏🏽🏁
